Pep has been pulling Walker into the midfield and for some reason he looks really slow today. City are struggling to close to that wide area.

It’s interesting because for all of the things Walker is good at this is putting him on the ball in tight spaces a lot and he’s just not that kind of player. He’s having an awful match to begin with and May just be one of those days but this setup isn’t going to survive any good pressing attempts like Newcastle are putting on because he’s such an obvious weak link to press

My goodness. Newcastle 3-1 over City at 54’ and frankly it could be more. Like Leeds against Chelsea today- just pinching them right in the mouth.

More games like this and Howe might be the Mancini of this thing instead of the Mark Hughes I was maybe expecting.

This feels like it’ll be a rivalry in need of a name moving forward. Something something oil something Derby.

Having said that it’s an extremely shitty and cynical tackle and I reserve the right to lose my mind if he gets away with a 50/50 later

Gritty box-to-box Joelinton is the most impressive reinvention of a disappointing footballer I’ve ever seen.

I think De Bruyne’s avoidance of the tackle saved the red, but of course after he has to add in a barrel roll for no apparent reason.

It’s red for me. Reckless and dangerous. The player shouldn’t need to avoid the injury to have the ref’s protection. It’s similar to Kane’s tackle on Robertson last year- it’s a stonewall red, but his foot wasn’t planted and both bones in the leg didn’t snap.

Didn't get to watch Leeds this morning (stupid shifting internet subscriptions!) but followed along, and didn't quite see this coming. Awesome, and the more so that their passionate fans get to enjoy it. The team couldn't have started any better this season, and I suspect they'll need it in the end. Great to see the likes of Newcastle, Fulham, Brentford and Brighton playing as they are too. Some will end up fighting for survival, but for others this will signal the ability to compete at the other end of the table.

I understand if mileages vary, but that was a nice reminder of why I started supporting Newcastle. It was fun, stupid, inefficient, and ultimately did not lead to winning anything. I continue to believe that lack of depth limits their ceiling—their first two subs were a decrepit Chris Wood and one of the Longstaves—but I now think that they will be a real pain in the ass to play at St James Park this season.

I’m seeing stuff on Twitter re: if the MUN-LIV game is cancelled. Why would it be?

The Glazers.

Only thing I see is a canceled players’ ManU meeting.

And that Harry Maguire has been dropped. That’ll hurt Liverpool a lot.

I get that the Man U fans have a right to be frustrated with the way the club has performed since Fergie left. At the same time, it does speak to the kind of entitlement fans feel when the fact that they aren't regular locks for the UCL in a very competitive league is reason enough for these protests. Most English clubs would love to finish in positions similar to United, but because this is soccer and the wealthiest teams become used to having such large advantages over their adversaries that finishing outside the Top 4 is seen as a crime, they get super frustrated.

Liverpool team sheet up - Gomez at CB, Bobby in the middle of the attack, and an interesting all-English midfield: Milner, Henderson, and Elliott.

No Matip or Keita on the bench, but Fab is. Very interesting.

Protests have been going on far longer than the past few seasons. The green and gold campaign started while Ferguson was still the manager. To say they are just protesting now because the team is shit is ridiculous.

The scale of protests has grown larger over the past year because of 1. The super league debacle and 2. The rumors that the glazers may want to sell.

The owners have taken out between 1 and 1.5 billion pounds out of the club. Nobody is asking them to put their own money into it. If they let the club run and spend it’s profits on players and facility upgrades nobody would protest.
