If he stretched out his MCL and has no meniscus or other ligament damage, that's way to the left of the outcome spectrum for a pileup like that. Good news for Kyrie fans. He'll sit out the six weeks at least if not much longer, but it's really not that bad of an injury.

That said, I don’t think Rozier is anywhere near the problem Kyrie was (not that anyone is suggesting that). Rather, I think he and guys like Mook were emboldened by the way Kyrie conducted himself to speak out and play in a way that more or less advanced themselves over the team.

I think Rozier inartfuly expressed the Hayward situation, which , as you say, is it least a logical reaction. He wouldn't be the first guy to overestimate his own skills relative to the league.
But he also didn't suggest at all that he thought Kyrie's "my way" approach was inappropriate.

You know, when you’ve been there, when you’ve hit those shots, when you’ve been a hero, it’s hard sometimes to understand what these young guys are going through and how they perhaps don’t fully cognicize the tribulations of leadership. I sometimes like to reflect on the leaders of history, and how Jesus probably had similar difficulties with his followers. It’s like, man, he had done some miracles, I’ve hit some big shots, but they still don’t believe and aren’t willing to work on your craft with you.

Well, there's really little motivation for him to play this year. With Durant out, this was going to be a lost year anyway. I'm sure he wouldn't enjoy another playoff humiliation - especially if it happened to come against the Celtics.

It's pretty hard to come up with a good reason to have impingement surgery in February while your team is currently in the playoffs (assuming his new imaging studies didn't show a rotator cuff tear or something new).

Even if Kyrie really does have substantial pain that's preventing him from playing right now, he could let it settle down and see how things are feeling in few weeks. If he was willing to try Advil, that might also help...

The surgery is minor and almost always done in the offseason. There is no real risk by waiting. Feels a lot like just a way to punt on the season, avoid an embarrassing exit, and save his legs for Durant.
