Forget plenty of precedent, give me one example of a trade for one year of team control at that salary.

Was about to say Goldschmidt but he only made 14.5 mil last year. It does seem like a pretty steep price for a rental

Reymond Fuentes, Anthony Rizzo and Casey Kelly for Adrian Gonzalez?
As pointed out, Gonzalez was cheap as shit. Plus they had a reasonable expectation that they could extend him, and did so.

Betts is going to be in the top 10-15 in the league salary-wise and has given every indication he won't even entertain talk of an extension. Much harder sell.

Dodgers and Braves make the most sense in that order. Dodgers because they know they can write the check to keep him. Verdugo and May probably wouldn’t kill them as deep as they are.
The Braves could pay him, too. They have a new ballpark and a ton of payroll room.

Contrary to the Sox payroll. 2018 was marvelous as were all 3 previous championships; however, it’s time to rebuild, go under all tax limits and get prospects. It would be un-popular, but every one that has trade value, should be made available(Mookie, JD, JBJ, Price, Eovaldi and Workman). Devers and X should stay and in 2-4 years you build around them with a young core and selected free agents. I know it would be extremely difficult to find a team for Sale, but if he proves healthy, he should also go.
Many of us waited 8, 11 and 18 years for each WS appearence, with very sad results in 67, 75 and 86. I would be extremely satisfied if by 2022-2025 Sox win one or more WS. Meanwhile all pink hats will do other things and the real “aficionados” will see a new era bloom.
