RO3829 must be giddy with this!  I personally like Jernigan best of these, but would be ok with RO's binky, JA.

Seems to be a consensus on either DL or TE.

I would be giddy with Amaro!!  But if they got Tuitt instead of Amaro, I wouldn't be disappointed either.

Soooo.....we can pretty much guarantee that Amaro and Nix are not the picks....

I just keep thinking we will be rending our hair out when both Nix and Amaro are there and we take an OL prospect thats rated 68th or something (Like Jack Mewhort or Cyril Richardson).

Doesn't seem like there's a huge distinction between the end of the 1st Round and the 2nd Round this year, especially once guys like Amaro and Nix are gone (which some people who are more knowledge about the draft than I seem to think is likely) or simply not ranked high on the Pats board.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the Pats trade out of the 1st altogether and try to snag a few more TE/OL/DL prospects in the mid-rounds.

MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
Green eyes, instincts and understanding of blocking schemes. Means he's inexperienced and likely looks frozen when things get beyond basic. Not a high football IQ at this point.

Needs more glass in his diet may mean he's not tough enough. But I'm guessing at that.

Eric Frenz, in the Globe...

Round 1, Pick 29 Ra'Shede Hageman (DT, Minnesota)
Round 2, Pick 62 Troy Niklas (TE, Notre Dame)
Round 3, Pick 93 Marcus Smith (DE, Louisville)
Round 4, Pick 126 A.J. McCarron (QB, Alabama)
Round 6, Pick 182 Phillip Gaines (CB, Rice)
Round 6, Pick 190 Russell Bodine (C, North Carolina)
Round 7, Pick 221 Zach Fulton (G, Tennessee)

Happens to be really similar to what I've been cranking out with the Draft Simulator toy at FanSpeak.com... down to Gaines and Bodine in the later rounds. I'd prefer another OL instead of McCarron in the 4th round, and another TE in there somewhere late (Gilmore in the 5th, Duncan in the 6th, or Reece in the 7th)... but this sounds reasonable to me as a way to spend the picks they've got now. [Think Loyko's dreams of accumulating picks is great, but optimistic.]

McShay's new mock has us getting Hageman--with Nix going to 49ers and Ealy to Broncos; all based on Steelers and Packers not going D-line (Dix and Ebron).

I watched Ealy play a bunch and I must have just watched his good games because there's no way that guy should be available anywhere near 29.  It's hard for me to see a pretty good pass rushing DE with size lasting that long.

Erik Frenz at boston.com, 3/17:
1. Nix
2. Niklas
3. Tre Mason, RB, Auburn
4. Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State
6. Kevin Norwood, WR, Alabama
6. Marcus Martin, C, USC
7. Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia

I'd love to get a S in there and maybe go OL earlier, but that's a pretty nice haul.

Wow, I hate Balestrieri's mock. Dee Ford? Really? Don't think he is a good pass rush fit with our current personnel or scheme. That and I wonder how he does anyway in the NFL given his struggle with larger linemen.

Agreed,

Ford-Undersized DE which they dont like or an OLB which they have 2 high draft picks with promise already.
ASJ- OK....but there seems like better value (Niklas or Fiedowicz) later
Richburg- I like the idea and the pick....whether he is there at around 87 is another question.
Quarles- Like.....but again suprise bordering on shock if he is here at 114
Shaw- A short, scrambling Manziel Clone?  Really?
Lyerla- Yea...um no.  While he has all kinds of talent. Had this been 2014 the year after another great season from Hernandez then maybe.  But as it is....I cant see it.
Lyn- He is not from Rutgers.

Wrights doesnt strike me as much better either.

+1. I think he is ready to play on day 1. We can shift old and slow to center and maybe get Cannon for RG. Definitely love it. A guard who can maul as a run blocker and who is also good as a pass blocker? Sign me up.

1. Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri
2. Niklas
3. Richburg
4. Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana
6. Chris Davis, CB, Auburn
6. Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana
7. Matt Patchan, OT, BC

I keep vacillating on whether or not I like Niklas. Like Ealy, Richburg and Patchan. Not sold at all on Tripp, Davis, and Latimer.

I'd absolutely love this draft.

I would rather see a G than Tripp. Also let's add another DT instead of Chris Davis. And what about a final TE or DE prospect and not Latimer? I like double dipping on positions. DE, TE, C, G, DT, DE/DT/TE, OT. You get 2 guys to compete for interior O-line spots, and 2-3 guys to compete for the D-line as well as adding at least one more TE.

I like parts of this draft but not the 4th through 6th round picks and, again, not sold on Niklas (but admittedly I've flip-flopped on him 2-3 times now).

Tripp and Davis are guys who figure to contribute on special teams. If they throw another 6th-round pick at TE or DT, that guy's most likely going to be cut. But a dude who can contribute on special teams can stick around long enough to develop.

EDIT: this is also why I'm surprised I don't see the Pats linked to Deone Bucannon, a 3-time captain at SS who Nolan Nawrocki says "has an ideal mentality for special teams." He's currently pegged as a second-rounder; I could see Belichick grabbing him at 29 and giving his "he's a four-down player" speech.

I've seen Tripp play extensively.  He is an excellent tackler, great lateral quickness and can cover out of the backfield.  He ran a 4.67 40, is 6'3" 243 and unofficially performed 24 reps in the bench press. He had over 100 tackles last season to go along with 3 INTs, 2 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries.

STRENGTHS: Quickly steps up in run support, slipping past would-be blockers to meet backs in the hole. Tough. Willing to sacrifice his body to take on the double-team and will attempt to build a pile to jam things up for his teammates to make the easy play.
Good vision and recognition in coverage. Balanced and fluid when dropping back, presenting a surprisingly tough matchup for running backs and tight ends. Helped himself with a solid week of practice at the Senior Bowl.
WEAKNESSES: Despite his reputation, plays with a little more finesse than physicality. Grabs and swings ballcarriers to the ground, on occasion, rather than accelerating through them.
Loses containment responsibilities by getting too caught up with blockers. Missed all but three games of the 2011 season with a shoulder injury which required season-ending surgery.

Sure, he played in 1A, but as noted above, he could easily stick around on special teams and develop as depth as an LB. I don't think he is worth a 4th but stranger things have happened.

I like him and think he would be a solid ST and depth player.

2. Dominique Easley, DT, Florida
3. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
4. Josh Huff, WR, Oregon
4. Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh
6. De'Anthony Thomas, RB/WR, Oregon
6. Tyler Gaffney, RB, Stanford
7. Larry Webster, DE, Bloomsburg

I like this one - Brandon Thomas is a Pats-y pick, a versatile guy who can start right away. Easley and Fiedorowicz fill two needs, and they get talent through the rest of the draft.

1. Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
2. Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State
3. DaQuan Jones, DT, Penn State
4. Fiedorowicz
4. Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana

Don't see a first-round CB, and I think the second is too high for Richburg. Like the last three though.

Doug Kyed 4/3: http://nesn.com/2014/04/2014-nfl-mock-draft-patriots-select-pass-rushing-defensive-tackle/
1. Stephon Tuitt, DL, Notre Dame

I think a hybrid DE/DT piece like Tuitt (or Ra'Shede Hageman) would be the ideal fit in the DL. Speak of the devil ...

Jason McIntyre 4/2: http://thebiglead.com/2014/04/02/2014-nfl-mock-draft-five-weeks-to-the-draft/
1. Hageman

Doug Farrar 4/3 MMQB/SI: http://nfl.si.com/2014/04/01/2014-nfl-mock-draft-johnny-manziel-3/
1. Eric Ebron, TE, UNC

I'm not a huge Ebron fan, but his talent would be pretty tough to pass up at 29.

2. Kelcy Quarles, DT, South Carolina
3. Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia
4. Kevin Pierre-Louis, LB, BC
4. Brandon Thomas, OL, Clemson
6. Marion Grice, RB, ASU
6. Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina
7. Nikita Whitlock, FB, Wake Forest

I'm not sure about Lee (who Waldman was down on) or the idea of taking a WR in the first generally, though Lee could return kicks right away. I like the Quarles, Thomas, and Grice picks. I'm not sure Lynch is much better than guys like Crockett Gilmore and Marcel Jensen who could be available later.

That's possibly the worst mock I've seen. A WR? Quarles in the 2nd? Not sure what Doug is thinking. I like Grice and Thomas.

Edit: nothing personal against Doug. He's a fantastic writer and his analysis is thorough and insightful. Just don't like his mock.

Interesting note at the bottom:

I ended up having some “name” players fall out of the first round.  Alabama LT Cyrus Kouandjio has medical concerns and didn’t play as well in 2013 as he did in 2012.  I’ve already covered C.J. Mosley’s potential fall out of the first.  I was told by a source inside the league that Florida State DT Timmy Jernigan could “fall like a rock”.  I didn’t question the source, I just left him out of the first round.  Missouri DE Kony Ealy could end up going in the first round, but he doesn’t have the strength to make it as a 3-4 DE yet and I don’t see the edge speed that would excite teams looking for a first round DE.

Love Doug in general but I agree. Marquise Lee does not go past the Jets, but even if he did just can't see Pats using a 1st rounder on a WR not named Evans (and Evans could go in top 10).

I also had Brandon Thomas with one of the 4th rounders, and may steal his pick on the Wake Forest FB.

Thats exactly the reason he would be available in the 4th.  Before injury he was a Late 1st/2nd round pick.

Combine that with BBs penchant for "Redshirting" players....and...1+1= 2ish
