Overtime in the final vs. the Galaxy....again.

Maybe a good omen that the Revs put one off the woodwork already.

Can anyone give me a good reason why this game is going up against a full NFL Sunday?

0 for 5. That's tough to do. Jesus Fucking Christ it's annoying as hell.

I have no idea why they can't get over the hump. They played scared and nervous in the 1st half, better in the second but still blew several excellent chances. They continue to frustrate and disappoint.

To be fair LA probably has better talent. Keane in particular is pretty clearly the best player in the league.

Edit- there is probably a case to be made for Dempsey or Bradley actually, but still he's head and shoulders better than the best Revs player.

I dunno, I thought Jones was every bit as dominant today as Keane. The Revs had plenty of chances and couldn't convert. They played tight tight tight.

LA was the better team from the bird's eye view. And, with Landon, love him or hate him, their win brought the better narrative. It will be all the better when the Revs overcome.

^^^this is what one tells his or her self, anyway, after a gut punch like that.

Hard to fault the Revs here.  They didn't play as great as we've seen them play, but they hung in and did what they needed to give themselves a chance to win.  My heart goes out to them.  I really wished better for em.

I think Nyugen going down was a huge blow.  Handles a lot of possession and is a great passer of the ball.  I suppose you can't call a penalty against LA on his mishit, but it sure didn't seem like the defender got much or any of the ball and he certainly caused Lee to fall.  LA was probably the better overall team this year, but I like the Revs future... They have a nice young core.

Edit: Also wonder where he would have been on the Keane goal...probably would have held a higher line and maybe the man that kept Keane on wouldn't have cheated middle so much to try and get back therefore mistakenly putting Keane on.  I guess at least I didn't have to see it go to penalties.

What was the logic of subbing out Davies? Did I miss him getting a knock?

EDIT: I just saw the replay of the winning goal several times. That was some atrocious defense by the Revs. Three guys not even moving when the ball was played to Keane. A total breakdown in tactics and coverage. Unbelievable.

Ugh.  I think it's fair to say that LA is a more talented team, but five MLS Cup losses is still a bitter pill to swallow for this franchise.  Nonetheless, the Revs built momentum on and off the field in 2014.  It is important that they keep it up next year.

Davies tends to get gassed late in games.  I thought Mullins played surprisingly well and did a lot of good little things outside of the assist.

The Revs defense has been responsible for too many nervy moments.  The team was a bit lucky that the Red Bulls didn't capitalize on all their chances.  I'm disappointed but not surprised to see something like this happen in MLS Cup.

Rowe has been a disappointment down the stretch.  He gives the ball away too cheaply and seems to the lack the confidence in attack that we've seen from him in the past.  I do think that part of the problem is that he belongs in the center.

I thought that this game needed Diego Fagundez, who wound up on the bench for the entire playoffs.  When Nguyen was too battered to continue, it would have been the ballsy move to push Rowe inside and have Fagundez attack on the flanks.  Instead, Dorman came on which was the conservative move, sapping the central midfield of creativity.

The team was clearly dying late in extra time, and it was brutal that two of our three "fresh legs" guys were Dorman and Kobayashi.  I can't help but feel that Heaps made a mistake there.

Great atmosphere at Parlor Sports, by the way.

I felt the same way about the subs. Mullin was fine, and Dorman, looking to get through extra time, made sense to an extent, sure. I think Daigo was an important cog for the Revs all year but don't think he was a fit for this game...and do feel like this may have been a place for Fagundez.

Gutted. Just a devastating loss. When Tierney scored and Darke said "the man who stood in Gillette Stadium as a boy and cried when they lost the Cup to the Galaxy," that really hit home because I also went to that match ('02 Cup Final) and it was devastating then too. Ugh.

I think it was basic "put on the target man late" kind of idea. Mullins is hardly a pure target man but he's the closest we have to that role, and they've usually asked him to play as a target man this year.

Completely agree, Diego should have and deserved to come on. He took a bit of a step back this season, but he's still the most exciting young player in the league and I hope he plays for the Revs for many years to come.

Sitting at an LAX bar waiting for my red eye home, gutted again. We also hit a crossbar late in 2002, you'll recall. Fuck.

Supporters' section chants "sta-di-um" at Jonathan Kraft before the match, he grins and gives a thumbs up. This time it's happening I know it!

Brutal loss. Tierney giveth, and Tierney taketh away. His goal was amazing, but he kept Keane onsides for LAs 2nd goal. Revs played super tight in the first half and showed their resiliency in the second. I've been a huge fan of Farrell's game in the playoffs, but Soares and him were not on the same page all day as Twellman repeatedly pointed out. I was also very disappointed in Rowe, but I don't have the high standards for him that some of you regulars do. I thought Kobayashi played fine and was a good sub. Mullin brought a lot of energy and was a big part of the NE goal. Jermaine did not have a good game, he had no touch and his passing was pretty bad. Same could be said for Nguyen, but he's been a player that needs multiple opportunities to get his. I thought he really blew it by not taking a shot on the play in the box. I don't think it was much of a foul either, that's on the forward to hit the ball.

In his post-game article, Matt Doyle made a good observation about this play - Tierney was trying to track a diagonal run made by Alan Gordon and in the process of doing so lost alignment with the defense and kept Keane on.  Tierney definitely should have done better, but I mention this because it's nice way to highlight the unglamorous off-the-ball runs that good forwards know to make that can sometimes be the difference in a game.  Gordon made Tierney's job a little harder, Tierney lost focus, and ballgame.

There's a brief trading window from 9am - 1pm today to facilitate player moves prior to the Expansion Draft, which is on Wednesday.  Expect a big flurry of activity - there are already quite a few rumored trades whose official announcement feels imminent.

That makes sense. I guess as the defender in that situation, you're supposed to bend your tracking run just like a forward would. As you said, loss of focus caused this lapse, but at that late stage in the game and after the chemical changes I imagine occurred after scoring his goal, hard to blame the player much.

Titan, I was at Parlor too.  Great scene.  I have no doubt there would have been a round on the house had the Revs pulled it off.
