I haven't noticed this discussed anywhere, so this seems like the right place. Apparently the terms and conditions have been updated in a way that's very unfavorable to circumventers of blackouts and sharers of passwords. Specifically, they're terminating users who circumvent blackouts and issuing a $100 fine, and they're threatening to charge anyone full price who uses another user's password.

You can read for yourself at the bottom of the page here.

And here's the relevant language:

How would they be identifying these violators? And what's the probability that they'll be able to enforce these terms?

Multiple sign ins from different places/countries may be detectable and therefore may be enforced. But can they?  What if I use it and my wife does as well?  When I travel I watch games on my Ipad.

I don't know how they can detect the use of VPNs.

Then again, it is standard language to use this terminology.

I would imagine this language is for gross abusers, i.e. people who divide the subscription up 12 ways. I am sure they would be able to figure that out as opposed to people who use it as you do trekfan. That type of use would be less detectable unlike say 12 different sign ins across the country at the same time.

Are people who use the ip hiding apps having issues watching the Sox in the Boston area?

We are thinking of getting the package but my wife wants to watch her hometown Padres too and we are in San Diego.

in my pants...
The game tonight was completely unwatchable, the worst it has ever been.  The desktop app kept crashing and when I tried it in a chrome window it was pretty much a slideshow from the fourth inning on.  It was so bad I watched the last couple innings on a firstrow sports stream.  Websites in other windows (like here) were loading and running just fine.  My internet is usually pretty lousy in general, but tonight I'm positive that it was just mlb.tv that had the problem.

My feed is stuttering terribly on the Fire Stick. Worked just fine last night on iPad. My internet connection is fine (11500 kbps). Any suggestions?

I'm having this problem too. Plenty of bandwidth and it works fine on other platforms. But on the firestick it buffers every 15-20 seconds. And of course other apps work just fine on the firestick. I guess the mlbtv app on firestick is just a piece of shit.

MLBtv was working fine w/ zenmate until today.  I cannot get the game to load today.  Do I need to pony up for hidemyip again?  I used that w/o a hitch until discovering the freebie zenmate - don't mind paying if I know it still works - anyone using that w/ success this year?

I haven't been able to watch more than 10 minutes at a time via my Roku, but it is just fine on my computer. I've reset the roku, but I keep getting "loading, Please wait" signal after a few minutes.

Stuttering on PS4 as well. Tested the speed on PS4 and it is connected at 14.2 Mbps. This shit is ridiculous considering how many years it's been going on now.

Hola unblocker on firefox/chrome is another free one to try out if zenmate isn't working.

Is there any way to change the default watch setting from "Beginning" to "Live"? I never want to watch a game from the beginning when it's available live and I always forget to click the "Live" radio button.

Awful issues on Fire Stick again today. Going to switch to PS4 and see if it's any better.
Yeah, a friend and I have issues with FireTV, too.

I've been using Chromecast for my TV with good results, although the feed is about 60 sec behind which is annoying for Twitter purposes. Been happy with the non-lag in the browser this year (previously, the addition of NexDef dragged everything back 30-60 sec).

My only gripe about Chromecast is I can't do the radio overlay. Seems that is only available on Roku and PS.

I just received an email this morning informing that I've been chosen as part of the Private Beta program for the new look interface on computers.

The link took me here for more information, but when I signed in to watch a game from yesterday, the updated features were there automatically.
Looks pretty slick so far.

I am listening to the WEEI feed on the mlb.tv app and watching the YES feed muted on TV (I live in NYC so the mlb.tv video is blacked out). The YES feed is about 30 seconds ahead of WEEI. Does anyone know away of delaying the video feed so I can get the call close to the picture? Thanks in advance.

I have never tried this, but once someone suggested watching the TV feed thru a DVR. You can then adjust the DVR feed by increments to match up. But if you don't have a DVR, then that doesn't help.

Thanks ITP, that's an interesting suggestion. I don't have a DVR but can probably pick one up relatively inexpensively.

Has anyone else been unable to circumvent blackouts this year? I've tried proxy on my laptop and DNS on my Apple TV, and neither have worked as it is still saying I'm within the Red Sox market so I can't stream NESN, which is annoying because the TV I want to watch on has no cable box (and I am a legit cable subscriber so I am paying for NESN; i just pay for one cable box as i don't watch much live tv besides baseball on this other TV).

Does anyone watch on a smart tv? I have this annoying issue where the feed will just stop and I get a pop up window with a "close" command. This can happen up to 2 or 3 times a game on a bad night.

The problems seem to bounce around from subscriber to subscriber...last year endless buffering while none this year whatsoever to this point but....it's coming.  No problem with new web player here...uhh so far that is.  Curious as why it's so isolated, perhaps someone with some knowledge of broadcasting can explain?

This might be my last year with MLBtv subscription. I have not been able to watch a game yet without it stopping and buffering a dozen times. I don't have this problem with hulu or netflix so it isn't my internet connection. Is there a way just to buy the audio? I have been defaulting to just listening to the WEEI feed. Next year I think I'll just suck it up for extra innings.

Yep. $20/year. Works across all devices and set top boxes with the MLB At Bat App.

I haven't had trouble with my Roku mlb.tv playing at all. No skips. Ever. On the computer, it's a little shakier and less reliable but the number of times i have to restart is probably zero to two times during a full game. So, when in doubt, use the Roku. It never gives me a problem.

Unfortunately the roku is almost completely unwatchable. That is actually what I meant when I said it keeps getting hung up, but in the past the computer at least add worked seamlessly but no longer.

I have the opposite problem, OJ. For some reason the Roku (a pretty old and cheap one) works perfectly while the media player on the computer hangs up all the time. I used to be able to choose a lower speed and/or resolution with the old media player, in which the picture was not sharp but acceptable, because it stopped hanging up. But now I can't figure that out.

Also, with regard to avoiding the blackout, I wanted to watch the Sox on the computer the other night so that I could DVR something else on the telly. I used Zenmate, but  it seems that identifying as foreign now costs money, so I chose U.S., assuming that it would hide my exact location, but after a minute or two mlb cut me off, saying I was blacked out from that game. So my use of Zenmate needs refining. Why are they so mean, by the way? Is it because they don't carry the commercials on mlb.tv and NESN would miss out on my muting and ignoring them?

The iPad app has gotten much worse over the past few weeks. It seems like it freezes almost every inning to the point that I have to shut down the app and restart it 6-8 times per game. Anyone else having this issue?

Not sure if you found another solution to this, but setting the app to “hide scores" will make the default option beginning rather than live. If it's already displaying scores, then I'm not sure of the fix. But toggling this option will switch the default choice if you have scores hidden.

Yeah, that one only happened for a week or so before going back to normal. I

FYI.....Last nights and today's games have been freezing up constantly....called my friendly, reliable, technical support at T/W, they changed the channel on my router....BINGO!

I think that MLB.tv is the canary in the coal mine when it comes to internet connection quality. It seems to be very sensitive to packet loss and latency issues, and so if your internet connection is having any kind of issues (even subtle ones that aren't bothering many other services), it will run poorly.

I access MLB via an app on my Sony blu-ray...signal strength was 40% prior to the channel change and 60% after...not even sure what it should be.

Is this the kind of thing that can be fixed by getting into the QoS settings on the router, giving the site or my comp priority?  I have been looking into doing that to improve the game feed, but don't really know enough about it to feel comfortable messing with it.

I just found out during my recent trip to VT that now apparently all of NE is considered Red Sox territory for the purposes of blackouts. I used to use mlb.tv to watch games in VT and ME and now it tells me the game is blacked out. That stinks.

I tend to believe this...earlier in the year I had no issues

I now alternate between a Chromecast or an app on my Sony blu-ray player....never know which is going to work from game to game....
