Not necessarily mlb.tv related, but I'm at my wits end in regards to the commercials that play out loud via Gameday even though my computer is muted. Does anyone have any sort of solution to override this?
I have never had this problem with FireFox with AdBlockerPlus running--heck I forget there even are commercials most of the time.

What are you running?

Looking for hints on a few Roku quirks please. Overall, Roku has been great, saving a lot of money and get every Sox game, live, afterwards, or a combination of both.

The biggest annoyance is the time status bar at bottom of screen. I rarely watch live, and never finish a live game until later or next day. Knowing the time remaining sucks, especially with this recent run of walk-offs by opposition.

About every week or 2 it won't access MLB.TV and I must remove channel, reboot Roku, add channel, re-link to account.

When NESN goes to other game highlights I just get background sound at the park. I do have "no spoilers" on my account, but Fox games do show me studio highlights.

Ballpark audio instead of announcers? Is that available on Roku?

Thanks for any suggestions.

That's not a Roku quirk, it's how MLB.TV behaves. I get the same thing on my PS3 and PC. Background ballpark sound only, unless one of Don/Remy say something offhand without muting their mics.

I'm not getting the video tonight (and couldn't from around the 7th inning of last night either. I get the screen where it verifies my account - then the game loads - but I never get a picture, just the ever rotating circle of grey dots in the middle of a black screen. Not just Sox games either - I tried other games and get the same thing - with and without hidemyip turned on. I share an account w/ my sister - but I don't think that's the issue cuz I'm not getting any messages about simultaneous logins or the like - any ideas?

One tactic that sometimes works when you're frozen on the rotating grey dots is to use Activity Monitor on the Mac to identify and kill the process called NextDefAutobahn -- sometimes you have to kill it several times. I'm not sure how the same can be done on a PC.

Thanks....I clicked off the nextdef toggle switch in the account settings and that seemed to work - lose some of the features, but at least I can watch. If my sister turns it back on and the problem re-appears, I'll try and figger out how to go about killing that process.

nextdef can be removed from add/remove programs. you lose the dvr and audio overlay options, but your video is live instead of delayed by a minute.

Theres no way to get park sounds on MLB.tv through a browser right?

Or could I get it if I reinstalled that heinous nextdef crap?

You need to reinstall nexdef - you'll be able to get park sounds, and the radio overlay as well.

I believe that you have to choose the home team's TV feed to enable the park sounds selection for audio.

I use Roku more often than PC to watch, but I get the grey dots fairly often when watching on a browser. Removing, then reinstalling NextDef has worked every time.

I'm trying to watch last night's Sox game via PS3, and the archive is cut off at 31 minutes. After checking four other games, they are truncated as well (some at just over an hour, one at 15 minutes). The full broadcast from last night is still available on the web (so I'm watching), but has anyone experienced this before?

I was watching on the PS3 last night and had to swap to my iPad because all of the streams cut out and were replaced with just commercial break or "this game will start shortly" splash screens. So I assume something weird happened last night on the PS3 side of things, because the Sox game and the Nats game I watched afterwards both worked fine on my iPad.

Or you could try this link and get a month for only 99 cents. That would just about bring you to the end of the season.

Dammit to hell. Saw that too late. Hope someone else takes advantage of it. Anyway, I was enjoying the heck out it until it realized I'd overpaid!
Try not to get too upset, after all you did spend $114.99 less than I did. :(

Just got back from the MLB.com Fan Upfront at Chelsea Market in NYC. It was a fantastic event that showcased all of the MLB.com products in 2012.

Jack Morris, Frank Thomas, Mark McLemore and Jeff Nelson were all in attendance, and were available to speak with us and take pictures. Frank in particular was gracious and forthcoming, discussing his playing days and sharing stories openly.

MLB had six stations set up - mobile products, Apple TV/Roku, PlayStation, Social Media, XBox, and MLB.tv. The MLB.com product and technical teams were on hand at the stations, interacting with the invitees and discussing the new products.

Mobile products: MLB At Bat 12 for iOS will be released tomorrow, and for those with an MLB.tv subscription (premium only, I believe), the app will be free. For those purchasing the app without an MLB.tv subscription, there are two purchase options - $14.99 for the year, or $2.99 per month. Also, there will be only one app this year for all iOS devices, previously the iPhone and iPad apps were separate purchases. At first glance, there weren't too many other changes with the functionality of the app except for minor UI cleanups. I found out that the iOS development team is lean - only four developers and a total staff of eight people create and maintain the app from conception through deployment. Fairly impressive for an app that has so many different functions.

I briefly saw the Android and Windows Mobile apps, which seemed to be similar to iOS. For the one or two people that still use Palm products, there will be no Palm app this year.

One of the engineers on hand told me that MLB will be releasing a new app (separate from MLB At Bat), which will provide an enhanced in-game experience for fans at each MLB park. The app will have interactive maps for each park that are downloadable and available offline for use at the park - food options, restrooms, etc are all documented graphically. So far they have 27 of the maps completed with a target release scheduled for the end of spring training.

Apple TV/Roku: I only spent a minute at the station, nothing too remarkable to report aside from minor year over year UI improvements

PlayStation: I don't own a PS3, but the app looks very smooth and easy to use. The quality of the video feed looked the best on PS3 compared to the other set top products (Apple TV, Roku, XBox).

Social Media: Not a whole lot to report here aside from the standard Facebook/Twitter/Pintrest pages. This team was by far the most outgoing and friendly during the event. They were actively recruiting people for their part time in-park social media reporting positions. Applications are available on the MLB.com jobs page if you are interested, and all apps will be personally reviewed by the social media team (rather than HR).

XBox/Kinect: The first launch of the XBox MLB.tv app should happen "in a few weeks" per the Microsoft and MLB.com reps at the station. I was able to use it with ease. The best part - Kinect will be enabled for both voice and motion, so no controls will be necessary, even for scrolling through games. Not all of the MLB.tv functionality is there, but the teams will be adding to it throughout the year. Apparently the most requested enhancement during the beta period has been the park noise only feature, which should be available over the summer.

MLB.tv: The most notable improvement was the integration with CBS fantasy baseball.

To answer the question above about the max number of IP addresses - they generally allow three IP addresses to access one account simultaneously. The person I spoke with said the policy was currently under review. EDIT - my friend who attended with me said he heard fron another MLB.com employee that four are allowed concurrently.

Also, regarding the lag issue, the engineers told me that they have to take the feeds from the networks rather than the ballparks at the moment. Thus they have to wait for the network stream, encode it, and broadcast it over the net. Taking the feeds from the ballparks directly is on the product development list, but is at least a year or two away.

For parting swag, MLB gave us a mini backpack. In the backpack were an MLB.com hat, an MLB.com t-shirt, a ball containing autographs four of the major leaguers in attendance, and a coupon for a month free of Xbox Live Gold. I also got an iPhone 4 case etched with the traditional MLB logo, courtesy of Coveroo.

Also, the food was fantastic - lots of diverse ballpark-like foods, plus some upscale appetizers like Colorado lamb chops.

Overall, the event was well done and I would definitely attend it next year.

Bump -- anyone going to this year's MLB.tv Fan Upfront?  It's on Tuesday evening, I just received my tickets.

Does anyone know if this works with the cheaper version of mlb.tv? I can't get the Premium because I don't have enough bandwidth or internet speed or something like that.
JohntheBaptist said:
I think the ps3/ xbox apps simply stick you on the best feed your connection can handle moment to moment- i still get the around-8th-inning thing on my ps3 occasionally think bc thats around when internet traffic spikes- 930.

Also, not sure if everyone knows about park sound on mlbtv? I fucking love it. You have to be on the home feed but you "select audio" > "park sound" no announcer, just crowd and baseball noises.

Last year it took till the middle of March for the app to update.

Also, browsing the forum, they say Audio Overlay will now only be available on your computer or Roku. link

That SUCKS. I love MLB.TV on PS3 because of the freedom it gives me with the telecast. I can listen to NESN for a few innings, EEI for a few and just the park sounds for a few. Man, how it's spoiled me.

Looks like the PS3 will still support park only audio, but not the radio feed audio anymore. Losing the radio overlay sucks, but keeping the park only sounds is the better feature anyway in my opinion.

My MLB.TV account worked great on my Roku today.

At Bat worked fine for both the NESN and WEEI feed.

However, even though the date is February 23, the box score and Game Day are stuck on the last game of 2012.  That memory I don't need.

Please help me because I am......stupid.
I have used the DirectTV Extra Innings package in the past to view games at home on TV. I have used the MLB At-Bat app to listen to games on my iphone or ipad when I was not able to watch on TV.
I just got Apple TV. How does that integrate with Extra Innings package? What is difference between DirectTV EI package and MLB TV? Do I need both? Is one better than the other?
Thank you

Extra Innings does not integrate with Apple TV, or anything that I am aware of. Extra Innings is something you watch on your TV through your provider (DirecTV). MLB.TV lets you watch games online or through "Connected Devices" (i.e., Apple TV, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) If you buy MLB.TV premium ($130) you get the MLB At Bat app for free, which lets you get radio and video broadcasts on your iPad.

You don't need both. If you've got an Apple TV and an iPad then MLB.TV  is your best bet. You'll be able to watch games on your TV and your iPad all through the same subscription. Cancel your Extra Innings, and you won't miss anything.

MLB.tv costs about half of what EI costs, and if you have an Apple TV it should give you a similar experience for viewing the games on your TV. Additionally you'd be able to watch games on the go or in your bedroom etc. on your AT-Bat app.

Is the AT Bat 13 app needed to watch MLB.tv on a tablet (Android)?  Or can it be watched on the tablet via a browser with Chrome or Firefox?

I ask because I'd like to get MLB.tv but it doesn't look like my Nexus 7 is yet listed as a supported device.

Anyone have any idea if they changed the max IP connections for this year? And whether multiple devices on the same network is still kosher?

Need app. I think there are some workarounds on Androids, but you might have to root.

I just installed MLB At Bat 13 on my Nexus 7 and was able to view an archived spring training game, with very acceptable quality. There was an alert prior to the video loading noting that my device was not tested. I was asked to rate the quality of the video when I exited. Again, video was very good.

I have a bit of a weird question. My physical address is in New York but my billing address will still be in CT within NESN's blackout zone for most of this season. Do they determine blackouts solely by IP or does billing information play a part as well?

Thanks for the update.  I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase it anyways since, worst case, I'm usually around a computer somewhere in the house.  And I'd had been looking in a Roku box as well so that option may be available to me as well.

I can't answer your question, but I spent a long time today with mlb discussing my options. We concluded that I won't be able to use the Roku, because it's too far away from the modem, I don't have enough bandwidth, etc. And it is impossible to adjust the quality of the feed through the roku controls. You have to use the computer for that.  Perhaps this has nothing to do with your situation, but you may want to see what happens if you are able to shorten the distance between the modem and the roku.

Which day was it?  Some (many) of the Spring Training Games are audio only.  The first one was on NESN and I think they said they are broadcasting about 10 of them.  The rest are audio only.

It was the game against the cardinals...And I think was yesterday. So maybe it was just audio. But i usually have the premium package and it works just fine on Roku except for the lag time.

OJ, Have you ever done one of the mlb "speed tests?" All of the conclusions we came to were based on my low bandwidth. I am wondering if I should go to the trouble of signing up and cancelling within 5 days if/when it's awful.

Are people getting ST games on PS3? I just set mine up last week, but can only view the "current" season, which is 2012. I was able to watch a recap of today's Netherlands-S. Korea, so I believe everything's updated...

You won't be able to watch on the PS3 until they update the PS3 MLB.tv app to handle the new season. In the past this has come towards the end of ST, if I remember correctly.

Same issue with the Apple TV MLB.tv app. I can watch any of the available spring training games on my Roku, but my Apple TV thinks it's still October 2012.
