Oh Pittsburgh, if you're going to go all in to be the 5th best team in the NL, you should at least be the team getting the best current MLB player in the deal. Tampa is killing it today.

That's a huge haul for Archer. And the Brewers just said they're moving Shaw to 2B but then they went out and got Schoop?

It seems like a ton of players moved at the deadline this year. Is it more than usual or is it just me? There are already plenty of bad teams that now just got a lot worse.

O's could have traded us Schoop for what we paid for Kinsler. Would have enjoyed our infield DP combination being nicknamed "Double Dutch" (or maybe Big Papiamento?)

Yanks will be playing Adam Jones and a bunch of minor leaguers this week.

They better take advantage

Nick Cafardo nods vigorously, @NJ_Sox_Fan.

As a result, you should not be worried.

On a more serious note, I expect Cora to follow Hinch’s lead on BP usage in the playoffs, and will use the starters more than other managers have in the past to augment as necessary. With ERod and Wright possibly coming back, they could be big weapons.

Our bullpen is fine with a healthy Thornberg, Brassier, Barnes, Kelly, Kimbrel, Hembree and Workman.

I didn't understand Archer to Pittsburgh at all then looked at Archer's contract. Signed through 2021 and they’ve lost the love for Meadows (lost in AAA) and Glasgow (can’t throw strikes).

Pretty cool moment, Brian Dozier arriving in the Dodger dugout and meeting his new teammates. Nice greeting from Dave Roberts too.

Why are the Os trading salary for reduced prospects? They lack talent, not $. Plus, their payroll for the next multiple years is going to be tiny - they can afford to pay O'Day if that means they get more talent back!?!
Never underestimate the greed of a class-action attorney, even at 89 yo.

I cannot evaluate the prospects.

This tear down is a year too late. Once they determined they would make no effort to keep Machado, they should have sold.

This franchise was doomed 20+ years ago when Angelos has his “broken clock” victory over Pat Gillick for the WC, and since then Peter thinks he knows best. They overemphasize their chances year to year.

I joked a couple weeks back that the only hope is a sale of the team. Interestingly, though there is no evidence that this will happen, stripping the team bare is a good preclude to selling the team.

An average 89 year old male has a life expectancy of 4.35 years and a 15% chance of dying within the next year. Given average health there is:

  1. 15% chance of dying within 1 year
  2. 29% chance of dying within 2 years
  3. 42% chance of dying within 3 years
  4. 54% chance of dying within 4 years
  5. 64% chance of dying within 5 years
  6. 73% chance of dying within 6 years
  7. 80% chance of dying within 7 years
  8. 86% chance of dying within 8 years
  9. 90% chance of dying within 9 years
  10. 93% chance of dying within 10 years
So there's a 7% chance Peter Angelos is still alive in 2028!

Doubt it can be sold while the MLB litigation is ongoing. If that gets settled, that will be a good sign.

I wonder whether they are anticipating any estate tax issues.

Duke did say that he was saving payroll to reinvest in the club. He's apparently gotten the Os to go (back) into the international arena. That and investing $ in the scouting department would be a good way to get to an even playing field. That and lobbying against the unbalanced schedule.
