If we are talking about possible trades, the twins are going to blow up the entire team. I would expect they get pennies on the dollar for them, but its better than nothing.

Definite trades:
Cruz (FA 2022)
Sano (FA 2023)
Donaldson (FA 2024)
Simmons (FA 2022)
Pineda (FA 2022)
Maeda (FA 2023)

Sano and Maeda are signed through 2022, but at $10 million, Sano's production is horrible. Maeda is signed for $8 million and isnt close to what he was last year.

Possibles:
Berrios (FA 2023)
Buxton (FA 2023)
Duffey (FA 2023)
Rogers (FA 2023)
Kepler (FA 2023)
Polanco (FA 2024)

Both Berrios and Buxton are good players, but buxton is made of glass and faberge egg's and can never play a full season. Berrios is going for a big payday in 2023. Rogers is their only good reliever, but he can get a nice return. Kepler hasn't repeated his 2019, so there are question marks for him.

Likely untouchables for now(Rookies):
Larnarch
Garlick
Arraez
Kirilloff
Gordon

Everyone else for themselves!
The entire team is garbage and all would have been DFA'd but they have no one else to drum out there to play.

Maybe I’m out of touch but I’ve never seen a post-trade press release so pointedly structured to downplay a prospect’s contributions. I mean I know the whole thing is an ad for Atlanta and how they “won” the trade but it almost seems to be sneering at Ball and his potential.

I kind of get your point but there’s not really much there except some Pederson information which seems mostly defensive since his stat line isn’t so great. I read that as “hey media, here’s what to tell people about Pederson.”

Yeah great trade for the Rays. One of those that made waaay too much sense not to happen.

This is a tremendous trade for both teams.

If I'm a Rays fan, I'm excited thinking about the offensive addition in a pennant race. If I'm a Twins fan, I'm delighted that we got a top-100 prospect in Joe Ryan who is just demolishing AAA (11.8 K/9; 1.6 BB/9) for a 40 year old DH who is certainly not part of anyone's future plans for the Twins. (The other dude looks like a depth starter. Always useful.)

Curious to see what the Rays get back. Hill has arguably been their best healthy starter this season, but he's also 41 years old and hasn't topped 100 innings in three years (he's at 95 now) so maybe they're getting out before the bottom falls out.
He also has an ERA over 5.00 since the sticky stuff crackdown. I bet they think he's done.

I'll be shocked if it happens. Ramirez probably has the most team-friendly contract in baseball – they don't need the salary relief there, they would just need an influx of talent so great they can't turn it down. It's also poor timing to trade away your most popular player as you're trying to get your fan base to buy into a complete rebranding of the team. It should require a total overpay of almost Sizemore/Lee/Phillips proportions, and it seems like prospects are now probably overvalued on the trade market so that we don't see similar deals anymore.*

*Montreal was in a unique situation when they traded for Bartolo, so I don't mean to say I would expect to see an overpay of that extent to happen again.

Yeah, that seems kind of shockingly light, I expected anyone with control past this year to fetch a fortune if they moved.

That's not light. Marcano is a nearly MLB ready infielder with advanced plate discipline with plus speed and good defense. If he can get to even league average power he's a plus regular, and even if that never happens he's got the skill set to be a useful utility guy. Suwinski is having a huge breakout year in AA with no H/R or L/R split issues. He may not have been much anything going into the year, but he's been one of the best hitters in his league at an age appropriate level. Miliano has huge stuff (plus FB, plus CB) but can't control it.

The Pirates walk away with a Frazier replacement with a full rookie scale contract, a young OF with a huge UP arrow next to his name, and a power arm to add to the pile. Just because the names don't jump off the page doesn't make it a bad deal.

Rosenthal tweets that the Pirates passed up a deal from the Mariners for Frazier that didn't ask for them to include cash. That they were willing to send $1.4M along with Frazier suggests that Marcano is someone they really wanted.

Yeah I didn't think Cherington would get fleeced, but like I said, I was expecting overpays for every quality vet with control past this season.

Oh, I am giddy about this. NYY trades my homey HJ Park (and Diego Castillo) for reliever Clay Holmes:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31891751/new-york-yankees-acquire-reliever-clay-holmes-pittsburgh-pirates-2-minor-league-infielders

Park has been a bright spot for the Yanks in the minors. The Yankees YouTubers I follow were calling for him to get a longer shot.

Now the native Korean gets a legit chance at a major league spot with the Pirates & the Yanks low-sell him for a reliever Pittsburgh had non-tendered him in the spring.

Also, per NYYF post: [Holmes] struggles with runners in scoring position, where hitters have a .890 OPS against him.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/mariners-trade-kendall-graveman-astros-abraham-toro-joe-smith.html

The Mariners and Astros are in the process of finalizing a trade that would send infielder Abraham Toro and a reliever from Houston to Seattle, tweets Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart adds that righty Kendall Graveman and recently designated-for-assignment Rafael Montero are headed to Houston. The Mariners will add veteran reliever Joe Smith in the deal.

The two teams are playing one another right now, meaning the four players need only head to the other side of the stadium once the deal is finalized. In fact, Divish points out that Toro is already on the field — in a Mariners uniform.

Mariners just had an emotional big comeback win last night. They aren't happy with this trade, understandably, but their run differential is pretty bad. Getting a cost-controlled infielder with some potential for a rental reliever seems solid to me. (Joe Smith / Rafael Montero seems like a change of scenery attempt /. maybe salary matching, I'm considering this a 1 for 1 deal.)
