Any player not on the 60 man roster has to be called a PTBNL, since only players on the 60 man are allowed to be dealt in this odd odd season.

I think it was him taking a shot at Bloom for having to include a PTBNL on our end in the Workman deal, rather than the issue of PTBNL in the deal.

Per Joel Sherman, Mets are focused on trying to upgrade their catching before the trade deadline expires Monday at 4 p.m.
Not that I necessarily want to trade CV, but multiple teams needing catchers can only help the value

The San Diego Padres have emerged as strong favorites to trade for catcher Jason Castro, sources tell ESPN. It would mark the Padres' third deal in the last 24 hours, after acquiring reliever Trevor Rosenthal and first baseman Mitch Moreland. They're loading up for a playoff run.

Should help the CV trade market (TB, NYM, +?)

The Padres inquired about Christian Vazquez in early iterations of discussions with the Red Sox before the Moreland deal, but deemed the price for him too high and seemingly refocused on shorter-term options.

The Sox are certainly listening on Vazquez, but it makes sense for them to ask for a lot in return for an above-average catcher under team control on an affordable deal through 2022. There's no need to move him unless they are essentially blown away.

It may be true but I don't see the Padres willing to give up the talent needed to get Clevinger. Preller has to win every trade. I'm not saying getting Clevinger is not a win but he has to have his cake and eat it too.

There's a benefit to CLE by sending him to the NL as opposed to the White Sox or Yankees, so that should help some.

Definitely, they have abolutely have no desire to see him on a potential playoff opponent. Not without a gross overpay.

Padres in active talks with Mariners about Austin Nola, sources tell The Athletic. SD already has struck deal for Jason Castro today, and Nola mostly has caught this season, but he also plays first base, other positions. SD also in on Indians’ Clevinger, as others are reporting.

I don't see what the Padres would give up that Cleveland would want. I'm fairly certain I would hate whatever trade was made there. Similar with the White Sox with the added problem they're tied for 1st place right now. If the Braves are willing to give up Pache or Waters, I'd be happy with that. Don't sell low on a cheap top-of-the-rotation guy who still has two more years of team control. Clevinger has already rejoined the rotation, and him being traded would mean Plesac takes his place, so it doesn't make sense that they're just desperate to unload him over the COVID-19 protocol problem.

Would the Padres be willing to throw in CJ Abrams? They seem pretty set at SS and 3B for the foreseeable future.

full trade piecemealed together from tweets:

Padres get: Nola, Austin Adams (RHRP), Dan Altavilla (RHRP)
Mariners get: Trammell (top 10 prospect in system), Andres Munoz (top 25 prospect in system), Ty France (3B/IF type), Torrens (backup catcher)

That's quite the deal for a distorted season

Wow, that's a terrible deal for the Padres. Adams and Altavilla are fringe bullpen guys and Nola is having a career year at 30.

France is a decent bench bat who can play most of the IF spots (and is still only 26), Torrens is a decent C prospect (only 24, but passed on the depth chart in SD), Munoz amfox mentioned above and they get Trammell too? Even without Trammell, it was a decent return, but with Trammell, it's a total steal.

Edit: Maybe the Sox can get Mejia for a song...

didn't realize France still has plenty of control, too. even if Trammell is a bust, you use that chip in a better deal than this.

trading Nola never made sense to me when this flashed today, who would want to buy so high on a 30 year old? I guess Preller offered Trammell and DiPoto couldn't believe his luck.

Also SD traded for Jason Castro earlier in the day, I don't really get why they would make both that deal and this one, pick one and pick one of your two current catchers to go with as your duo.

I love that Preller makes unusual moves, since we are in an era where increasingly all 30 GMs value players the same way, but also I am pretty glad he does not run my team.

I think just like Bauer and like Lindor when they inevitably have to deal him (because he is going to FA), CLE will trade him to the NL if at all possible.
