The Sox would have justifiably asked for more had Theo been going to a division rival instead of to the NL.curly2 said:Duke to the Jays talks end as Orioles demand king's ransom.

Angelos is really a prick. The Sox let Theo go to the Cubs for two fringe -- at best -- prospects. The O's demanded Toronto's No. 4, 6 and 7 prospects, according to their MLB.com rankings.

I agree with Lefty and also wonder how team ownership can be considered pricks when someone under contract wants to get out of it - especially to work for a team in their division. Angelos might be a prick, but in this case he can ask for whatever he'd like as far as I'm concerned.Lefty on the Mound said:The Sox would have justifiably asked for more had Theo been going to a division rival instead of to the NL.
Not especially, no, but if Duquette does a shitty job the rest of the time he's in Baltimore it only hurts his value down the road. If he doesn't care, give more power to an assistant GM and make Dan miserable for four years. I just have a lot of trouble with people who feel it's ok to renegotiate a contract they willingly signed. I know a lot of people (many on this board, in fact) have historically been pro-player, anti-ownership in labor disputes so maybe I'm in the minority in my thinking as they may side with another level of employee against ownership in this case.Rudy Pemberton said:Agreed; however, if you're Angelos, do you want your GM to be a guy who doesn't want to be there? Assuming Duke will have little to no authority in his role, and once he leaves, the O's will get nothing.
On the contrary I think most folks hereabouts thought DD did a pretty good job. It was the media (and some of the more cantankerous players) that besmirched his name. His one glaring fault was his lack of people skills - which is rather odd given his desire to be a club president. Not especially, no, but if Duquette does a shitty job the rest of the time he's in Baltimore it only hurts his value down the road. FWIW, I was one of the few who felt Duquette did a good job with us. I met him once and he was a dick to me, but I still thanked him for Manny and Pedro.
I agree with the media, but I also felt that Theo got a lot more credit than he deserved from the fans as well. Theo did a great job of filling in the gaps, but DD's fingerprints were all over the '04 team, imho. DD's people skills absolutely sucked, though, based on my one time meeting with him. SS, I know.BCsMightyJoeYoung said:On the contrary I think most folks hereabouts thought DD did a pretty good job. Wow! Awesome news for my second and third favorite teams.MakMan44 said:Nationals sign Casey Janssen to a 1 year deal.
