What does "55 FV tier" mean?
It is from Fangraphs' 20-80 scale of "Future Value" tied to anticipated value during the player's first 6 years of service. On the scale, 70-80 are top 10/5 types (there are only two of these on their current list), while 55/60 is above average regular/all-star. Most of the top 20 are 60s, and then it's 55s down to 45th or so on their scouting big board.

Time to get (even more) excited about Brayan Bello, as he goes 5.1ip 2h 1er 10k/1bb in his second AA start. Not skipping a beat.

Gambrell made his 2nd start in the org yesterday. Not as good as his first outing.

2.0 ip, 8 hits, 5r/5er, 2bb/2k.

Dearden is back after a small trip to the DL. He was on my list a few spots behind Bello as fast risers in the system.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news for Duran, but he’s not going to wear 24 when he gets to Boston.

Brandon Howlett continues to scorch the ball. He went 4/5 on the 18th, and was 1/4 yesterday with his 5th HR of the year.

Last 11 games: .405/.500/.833, .520 BAbip. 50 PA, 4 2b, 1 3b, 4 HR, 7bb/13k.
For the year: .302/.393/.535, .405 BAbip (34/84) 150 PA, 17bb/41k.

It'll be interesting to see how he holds up without all the luck.

Looks like Gilberto Jimenez is heating up again after going into a deep funk, though it looks mostly lucky: Last 5 games: 23 PA, .391/.391/.435 on a .450 BAbip. 0bb/3k.

His prior 65 PA: .172/.185/.250, .233 BAbip. 1bb/20k. Over his last 52 PA: 0bb/13k.

For the year, he's now at .299/.331/.381 on a .368 BAbip in 154 PA with 4bb/29k. He should go lift weights with Octavio Duran.

Wu-Yelland with probably his best outing to date. Other than an error by a teammate, he was perfect thru 4 innings and had 4k. He eliminated that runner on a DP.

He had a 4.0 ip, 3 hits, 0bb/8k performance earlier this year. Guess it's debatable.

4..0 ip, 3 hits, 1r/1er, 2bb/6k for Groome today. 60 pitches. Probably has another inning.

edit: 5.0 ip, 5 hits, 2r/2er, 3bb/8k.

What a great first season for the WooSox - now 29-14 and the offense is just crushing it! Another 10 runs tonight with 4 hits from Downs and two Chavis dingers

Any intel (or speculation) on when Sale might pitch in a minor league game? He threw at Hadlock Field yesterday afternoon.

It seems strange that the Sox would send him to Portland to throw off the mound as he could do that anywhere (including having batters stand in but not swing).

Jeter Downs last 7 games: .367/.406/.700 on a .400 BAbip in 32 PA. 3 HR, 2bb/7k. Up to .250/.329/.419 for the year. He's had two good stretches and 2 bad.

Brandon Howlett homered in his 3rd straight game. Those are his only 3 hits. He's 3/13 with 1bb/7k during that stretch. The prior game he was 4/5.
Last 13 games: .373/.467/.843, 60 PA, 51 AB. 4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 HRs. 8bb/19k.

Nick Yorke's last 17 games: .377/.466/.557, 73 PA, 61 AB. 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR. 9bb/10k.

My binky Jaxx Groshans stays hot. Slashing .318/.449/.514 for the year in 138 PA/107 at bats. He has 6 doubles, 5 HRs and 28bb/25k. Dude can draw a walk.

Really interested in Yorke’s—and by extension Blaze Jordan’s—development, as that is probably the move that was closest to Chaim really going out on a limb.

Duran with number 13. Jeez. He was 2/4 with a walk.

Cordero was 1/5 with another 3ks today, eww. Now 10ks in his last 16 PA.

Houck went 3.2 ip, giving up 3 hits, 2r/2er, 0bb/6k, 1 HRA.

Dearden hit HR #6 and went 2/4 with a BB.

Winckowski went 5.0 ip, 7 hits, 3r/3r, 0bb/9k. 1 HRA.

Marcus Wilson
May: .254/.361/.493 in 83 PA, 12bb/34k, .441 BAbip, 14.5% BB%, 41.0% K rate
June: .308/.450/.551 in 100 PA, 19bb/21k, .358 BAbip 19.0% BB%, 21.0% K rate.

Season: .282/.410/.523, in 183 PA, 31bb/55k. .391 BAbip 16.9% BB%, 30.1% K rate.

Last 17 games: .297/.439/.453 in 82 PA, 16bb/15k. .354 BAbip 19.5% BB%, 18.3% K rate.

It'd be curious if he made any adjustments at the plate or it's just noise. He's only 21 days older than Duran which seems crazy. He's obviously been a bit lucky this year but he's trending in the right direction. A Marcus Smart who strikes out 25% of the time is a very interesting player.

It would certainly improve the defense.

After a terrible first inning where he gave up 2 HRs, Groome settled down and is currently at 5.0 ip, 3 hits, 2r/2er, 0bb/7k.

It's possible he goes out for a 6th inning. He's only at 58 pitches.

So that gets Duran to .282/.372/.615.

I guess at this point the only thing keeping him down is the availability of consistent at bats. They probably want him to play everyday and if Kiké keeps playing well and Arroyo picks up where he left off Cora’s gonna stick with the vets.

Jay Groome had maybe his best start of the season today.

6 IP 2 H 2 ER 1 BB 9 K, only 81 pitches.

Nick Yorke 4-6 with a HR. He's at .294/.375/.394 for an OPS of .769 now.
Wow. I don’t think it’s discussed enough how unusually aggressive of an assignment of A+ ball is for a high school pick’s first cup of tea. Yeah he got some seasoning at the alternate site but still this is very impressive.

I overreacted to his initial rough patch and thought they may have screwed this up by being too aggressive.

They were aggressive, as he likely would have gone to Lowell when it existed.

and it’s going to happen for years, but the flipped the franchises - Greenville is High A, Salem is Low A

Groome had 9k again yesterday, 1h/2bb over 5 1/3. Would be a huge boost to the system if he were able to keep this going and finish the season strong in AA.

Looks like he's expecting a ball to be hit right back at him.
So strange how his delivery is different. Sometimes he lands with his left foot over his right, sometimes it’s behind it. That can’t be what’s taught right?
