Ah, thanks. He's going to end up in....Portland?
He pitched the full season in Salem last year at age 20. Didn't exactly light it up: 129 IP, 129 H, 16 HR, 60 BB, 77 K, 1.46 WHIP, 5.36 K/9, 1.28 K/BB. I can't find any news on him. SoxProspects only notes that he's in XST for rehab. Their wrap-up from last year didn't note an injury, but did estimate that he'd start the year back in Salem (http://news.soxprospects.com/2015/12/2015-top-40-season-in-review-trey-ball.html).

BA names Salem's roster the best in the minors, prospect-wise:

At the end of last season, the Red Sox’s low Class A Greenville affiliate had the best prospect group in the minors. Six months later, those players have moved up a level. But the honor remains. At the start of the season, Baseball America picks the Salem Red Sox as having the best group of prospects in the minors.

1. Salem Red Sox (Red Sox)
Top 100 Prospects: 2B Yoan Moncada (3), OF Andrew Benintendi (15), 3B Rafael Devers (18).
Top 30 Prospects: Moncada (1), Devers (2), Benintendi (3), SS/2B Mauricio Dubon (13), 1B/OF Nick Longhi (14), RHP Travis Lakins (16).
Yes, Corpus Christi has more Top 100 Prospects, but no team can match the star power of Salem with three Top 20 Prospects. Amazingly this group was even better at the end of last year in Greenville (when we called them the best prospect group in the minors) as those three were joined by shortstop Javier Guerra before he was traded to the Padres.

Does anyone have any insight on why Devers continues to bat 5th exclusively?

It seemed so obvious when the rosters were announced that Salem's top of the order should be Moncada, Benintendi, then Devers. Instead, both Dubon and Longhi are sandwiched in there regularly. Jordan Betts has also been slotted ahead of Devers when Longhi got a game off.

It strikes me as very odd. Has anyone read anything to the effect that the coaching staff's deliberately grooming Devers into a more selective hitter by batting him lower in the order, since his walk-rate was so low last season?

This isn't a maturity/disciplinary thing, I hope....
