This is an update from Soxprospects on Dalbec:

Since his promotion to Portland, third baseman and sixth-ranked prospect Bobby Dalbec hasn't skipped a beat. Dalbec is now tied for the most home runs in the minor leagues this year with his 31st homer coming in the Sea Dogs' win over the RubberDucks on Sunday. In 33 at-bats for Portland, Dalbec is hitting .364 with five home runs and 11 RBI.

Plus, Chavis looks to be hitting extremely well lately:

Michael Chavis, 1B, Portland
6 G, 25 AB, 14 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 7 R, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 7 K, .560/.593/1.473

Chavis has teamed up this month with Dalbec, another red-hot, fellow corner infielder, to give Portland a dynamic one-two punch in the middle of the lineup. Chavis, the Red Sox top prospect, is hitting .514 in his last 10 games, and .309 now overall with Portland. The 23-year-old has five multi-hit performances in his last six games, and had a monster day at the plate last Thursday, blasting two home runs in the Sea Dogs' 10-9 win over the SeaWolves.

I can't remember where, but I've seen it suggested Chavis might be better suited for 2b than 3b anyway.
Sox Prospects speculates a corner OF position is a possibility with him and that would make some sense moving forward. For one, we have 3 third baseman in the picture in Devers, Chavis and Dalbec. None seem to have much of an edge defensively so I would think Devers has the inside track since he's already in the bigs. Assuming they make the big club and continue to show promise, I could eventually envision Chavis to left and Dalbec to first (since he's so big), especially if JBJ is not resigned and 10D moves to center. That's a lot of ifs so I'll throw in two more, which are that Travis and Ockimey are the odd men out.

Ockimey hasn’t even been added to the 40-man yet, so he’s got 3 full optionyears to go. They have a lot of time to just let him hit at Pawtucket and develop.

Travis will be out of options after next year, but even still, they should just plug him into Pawtucket’s lineup and let him try to hit his way to the big leagues somewhere.

Moreland is the perfect bridge to any of those guys. It really makes that signing look smarter even with him somewhat dropping off. If they had gone longer term with Santana, then either Dalbec or Ockimey would be blocked. I wasn't bullish on either but they took some big steps forward this season.

Not that any of those guys are locks as major leaguers, but they need cheap position players and they have had below average first base production for quite a while. They can be patient at that position.

Fangraphs' Eric Longenhagen profiled Houck's most recent start on the Daily Prospect Notes. Nice graphic showing the difference between his current arm angle (he's going back to his college days) and what the Red Sox were trying with him earlier this year.

It's probably nothing, but last year's 13th round pick Garrett Benge hit .351/.400/.486 in 41 PA at Lowell this year, earning himself a quick promotion to Greenville where he is now slashing .325/.486/.450 in 105 PA with 25bb/17k. He also walked 25 times in 221 PA last year, but struck out 51 times. He's 22 and turns 23 in December so he's not exactly young. It could just be SSS noise but he's an interesting follow if you like outliers as I do. He's a new binky of mine.

Just for comparison, Youkilis slashed .317/.512/.464 in 260 PA as a 22 year old in Lowell. 70bb/28k.

My favorite binkie in the farm system, Pedro Castellanos, is slashing .364/.400/.488 in his last 140 PA. 5bb/17k. Up to .300/.335/.377 for the season in 316 PA. 11bb/45k. The power isn't there but he hit .326 in 2016 and .338 last year. He hardly walks or hardly strikes out. Of course as a slow 1b, he has no future without power. His career ISO to date is .118.

It's super weird seeing Benge's name right now... as he hasn't played in three weeks and is on the DL.

Not that he doesn't merit watching. When he begins playing again.

Brandon. Phillips is making a huge case for himself lately 436 BA in his last 10. 952 OPS in 76 August plate appearances.

Sam Travis must think it’s March. 361 in his last 10, 50-157 in July-August. Not a lot of power or walks though.
