Potential Young replacement next year.
I stumbled across him recently, too, and I think his most likely role is a backup corner OF/RH bench bat with pop. He could possibly be a starter for some lower division teams. Injuries have derailed him every year since 2012, and the last two years were a step down from previous production (.680ish OPS across AA, AAA, and MLB). But he only played about half a season each year. He's had past success at AA and AAA and wasn't completely overmatched in limited MLB experience. The K rate is at 20% this season after being 25% over 1000 AAA PA. If that little drop is sustainable and he's back in good health, I like him a lot as a Chris Young replacement for the Red Sox. And he's two more B's in the outfield!

Potential Young replacement next year.
I was thinking more along the lines of this year, but that might be the case anyway. It's possible it's also Tzu Wei Lin since he can play CF, 2b, SS, 3b and has the arm strength for RF/LF even though he hasn't played there. It's also very possible they have room for both players next season given Lin's versatility and the mess that is our UI situation. Linsatility?

Including last night's game, Toe Tap now has 13 HRs in 130 PA. .348/.443/.759, 18bb/20k and a .329 BAbip.

And today--6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. 71/43
3 straight games where he's pitched 6 innings. Pitch totals of 81/53, 80/53, 71/43. Efficient.
Made his first start in 16 days last night. 5ip, 6 h, 2er, 1 HRA, 1bb/5k. 76 pitches/53 strikes. Dude throws strikes.

Year to date: 5 starts, 2.08 era, 26.0ip, 2 HRA, 6bb/25k. Hitters slashing .223/.270/.340 on a .284 BAbip. K rate of 24.8%, BB rate of 5.9%.

So far, he is pitching better than Anderson Espinoza was at the same level despite being 2 months younger.

I'm very very intrigued and curious to here some scouting reports on him this year. He sounded like a guy who had some projection in him, I wonder if the fastball has crept up or the breaking ball has sharpened.

Throws 90-93 with downhill movement , low 80s changeup that sinks and an 11-5 curveball with a sharp bite. Great mechanics, smooth delivery. Good athlete.

Also worth noting there was talk of Mata being sent down to the GCL when it opened, but obviously that didn't happen.

Devers adds his 16th, these guys are raking.

Edit : I just realized I was redundant in my description, but damn it's true.

And Brentz hits #18. Playing a video game at this point.
Just curious...is he still on the 40 man roster? God forbid one of the outfielders has a minor 10 day injury, do you think he might be called up for insurance or would Selesky?

Mata with his first bad start. 6 ER on 10 hits and 1 walk over 4 1/3 innings while only striking out 2.

And Devers with 18. Saw it in person in Hartford. He absolutely annihilated that ball!

Ockimey hit his 8th HR and his first since 5/29 last night. Over his last 25 games, 106 PA: .190/.358/.270 on a .246 BAbip. The good news is he has 22bb/22k in that time so his struggle isn't the same as last years. Only 5 extra base hits though. He's now at .279/.400/.439 for the year in 325 PA with 54bb/78k.

Roldani Baldwin hit his 9th HR of the year last night. Last 36 games, 150 PA: .322/.349/.552 with 7 HRs, 6bb/28k.
He is now slashing .291/.322/.522 for the year at Greenville in 215 PA. 10bb/40k. He's not exactly young at 21 but given he is a catcher, I'm surprised this guy doesn't get more love.

Bryce Brentz is now up to a .282/.354/.563 slash line for the year in 274 PA. 27bb/56k. Since the toe tap: 157 PA, .372/.452/.781 on a .381 BAbip, 14 HRs, 19bb/26k. Prior to toe tap: 112 PA, .162/.205/.286 on a .181 BAbip, 4 HRs, 6bb/30k.

No one reported that the DSL Red Sox had a 7-inning no-hitter yesterday? Andres Jimenez (3-0) pitched 5.0 innings with no walks and 6 Ks and Shair Lacrus (2 Sv) went the last 2.0 with a walk and a K in the 1-0 win.

It's time
Seriously. He's slugging .597 at this point, they need to DFA Pablo call him up from his rehab assignment because at this point, Devers is not being challenged by AA pitchers. What is he working on defensively that he cannot work out in AAA?

Devers is slashing .318/.393/.640 since May 1st over 239 PA, 26bb/40k, 14 doubles, 3 triples, 16 HRs.
Since June 2nd, he's been even more ridiculous. .337/.402/.762 in 112 PA, 10bb/16k, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 10 HRs.

Really though, the guy has an ISO close to .300 and he's getting harder to strikeout as the season goes along. Thing is, AAA isn't really all that much more of a challenge than AA so I don't think it matters much.

First start in AA with a new arm slot was a huge success for Henry Owens. 0.2ip, 0h, 3er, 6bb/0k, 42 pitches, 15 strikes.

AA all star game is next week in Manchester, I've suspected all along they want him to play in that and will call him up after.
By then they will have seen Peralta and Panda in AAA for a couple of weeks and they can decide if one of them will go.

I think that Peralta will be gone and Devers will be in AAA by next Friday.

Victor Acosta jumped from Lowell to Salem and is currently 3/3 with a double and a walk in his first game. He is 21, but he's a DR kid so that promotion seems somewhat aggressive.

Roldini Baldwin remains hot, going 2/4 with 2 doubles.

MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
When someone gets eyes on Groome I'd love to hear how he looks. Nip or Deets will likely sneak in soon if they haven't already.

Shawaryn with a mixed back: 5ip, 1 h, 0r, 5bb/9k.

Ditto Jalen Beeks: 4.2ip, 3h, 0r, 3bb/7k.

Jerez last 8 games 13.1ip, 8h, 0r, 2bb/16k. Maybe he's figured something out.
