Francesca has officially lost his mind. He thinks the Broncos should start Osweiler in the playoffs but they should play Manning in the Super Bowl should they get there because its so important that Peyton gets a shot at winning his 2nd championship, all the while maintaining that Osweiler is a far better quarterback today.

I think it was Friday, I turned it on mid-rant. He used only 12-15 different words over the course of what seemed like a solid minute, with two words popping up with great frequency:

"He's PEYTON MANNING! Because he's PEY-TON MANNNN-INGGGG!!! Do you understand: he's PEYTON MANNING!!! This is PEYTON MANNING heah!!!"

And he just kept going on and on.......

anything on "Tom" interviewing with the Eagles?
Said he would be very surprised if he's hired. And said the Giants probably weren't comfortable with him interviewing with the Eagles. Said the Eagles might be fishing for Giant info. But basically said he's too old to coach anymore.

I thought I was going nuts. I listened yesterday and could have sworn he said Lewis should've been fired. And after listening to the call today he was so sure of himself I said I must have been wrong.

Mike says today the Coach/QB combinations he starts a team with start with Lombardi/Starr then Montana/Walsh then Bradshaw/Noll

Cuz Bradshaw never lost a SB

No mention of Belichick/Brady

He's a lost soul. He says EVERYONE would pick Vince with Bart because Vince is the greatest.

I'm not surprised but Terry Bradshaw wasn't any good. I saw him and he was gifted with an all-time defense and two HOF receivers and a HOF RB plus a HOFer or 2 on the OL.

With that he still put up under league average numbers. He was a bum.

All that was true for most of his career. When he turned 30, Bradshaw became a much better passer. He took way too long to figure out that passing took more than a big arm.

He actually had a really good year in 1975 at age 27 then got hurt the following season and from which he really didn't rebound until 1978.

Mike did a situational 180 the other day. I forget who he was talking about, but he was trumpeting how many times whomever got his team into a championship game, with little regard to whether they won or lost the big game. At first, I thought I misheard him, but he kept going on about it.

It reminds me of when he endlessly praised Harbaugh for getting to three straight championship games while never giving Belichick any credit for doing the same thing in that time period. He also killed Belichick and the Pats for not winning Super Bowls while making excuses for Harbaugh, Manning, and some of his other favorites when they did the same. He protects the players and coaches that he likes and endlessly criticizes the players and coaches he doesn't like. Don't ever look for consistency from Tubby.

Yes, apparently you know what is better than losing two Super Bowls in which you lead your team down to go-ahead scores only to have your opposite number twice produce miraculous drives to steal the games? Getting your doors blown off 17-3 and 49-3 as Montana's Niners did in 1985 and 1986, and getting crushed by the Raiders 24-7 and the Broncos 34-21 as Bradshaw's Steelers did in 1976 and 1977.

I couldn't listen to the clip here at work, but that's how they determined initial possession in the XFL. Ball at the 50, two guys raced and whoever recovered got the ball... My memory isn't great, and I don't feel like looking it up, but I think they abolished the practice after the first few weeks because a couple of guys got injured (duh).

Edit (from Wikipedia):

Opening scramble[edit]
Replacing the coin toss at the beginning of each game was an event in which one player from each team fought to recover a football 20 yards away in order to determine possession. Both players lined up side-by-side on one of the 30-yard lines, with the ball being placed at the 50-yard line. At the whistle, the two players would run toward the ball and attempt to gain possession; whichever player gained possession first was allowed to choose possession (as if he had won a coin toss in other leagues). The XFL's first injury infamously resulted from the opening scramble; Orlando free safety Hassan Shamsid-Deen suffered a separated shoulder prior to the Rage's 33–29 season-opening win over the Chicago Enforcers at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium on February 3.[14] He ended up missing the remainder of the campaign.[15]

FF opens with (paraphrase)

"... everyone is saying that if the Pats win (SB) they will be in the conversation for greatest team ever. If they win it wouldn't change anything, Lombardi was 9-1, lost his first game, then won the rest... every other team (I suppose he means QB) is playing for something, Manning his legacy, Newton his first... Palmer (I zoned out)

He then revisited the 2 Pat SB losses and the close wins and infers "Spygate" with the first victory to taint the BB/Brady record.

Really a 5th SB for BB/Brady means nothing?

He's a piece of work.

He's nothing if not consistently inconsistent in the way he judges success. He says now that the Pats have no legacy stakes but I guarantee if the Pats make and lose the Super Bowl one of the first things out of his mouth the next day will be "4-3, what's so great about that?"

the way he shifts the goal posts around on the Pats is infuriating and also amusing.

Im CONVINCED he lost a LOT of money betting on Seattle last year I have NEVER heard him so enraged when the Pats won, going on and on about how seattle made the worst call in the history of the sports.

He just gave his picks, and he was more than pained in picking the Pats to win and cover. The angst and the pain in picking against Peyton was palpable. He so wants the Pats to lose. It was funny.

Mostly conventional wisdom from Mike.

Pats 27-17
and
Panthers by 7 were his picks.

it was amazing how anguished he was he HATED picking the Pats and HOPES he is wrong. Really the first time I can ever remember him out and out hating on them that clearly without artifice or some less than niuanced rationale, and as such, was actually refreshing.

Mike cherry-picking this morning to discredit Brady and pump up Manning:

"If you take away Manning's first two seasons,......."

"Brady DIDNT win that first SB, he was just along for the ride!"

(I'm sure there were more, but it's a very short ride to the supermarket and back. Best was a caller mocking Mike's stammering/blustering, and then quite loudly hanging up on Mike.)

Mike must have missed the last two minutes of that game, AV might've won it with the kick but TB12 put him in that position.

I know we don't like Francesa's takes on the Sox and Patriots but he is a HoF broadcaster. This is well worth a listen because Nolan, in her disarming way, gets Mike to open up on a wide range of subjects. He is, at points, arrogant and a bit patronizing but Katie never takes the bait. However he is also fascinating and Nolan gets a lot of great quotes out of Mike. If you ever listened to Mike and The Mad Dog (I lived in the NY area when the show started and it was must listen radio), you have to listen or watch on Youtube.

My favorite ridiculous comment of this rant was, "Remember, if (Manning) won those other two Super Bowls, or even one of them, he would be considered differently than he is now."

Yes, but instead he threw a game-clinching pick-six in one and piled up meaningless stats as his team got blown out.

On the Brady not deserving the MVP, tell me which of these players deserved the MVP for SB XLI?

Manning 25-38-247 1 TD 1 INT 1 Fumble, or Dominic Rhodes 21-113 1 TD; 1-8, or Joseph Addai 19-77; 10-66 0 TDs

But then again, when they were up 22-17 on the Bears, Manning did lead them on a game-clinching drive....oh no, wait, that didn't happen. Rex Grossman threw a pick-six that was returned 56 yards by Kelvin Hayden early in the fourth quarter, and then Colts pounded Rhodes and Addai for the rest of the game.

I doubt there is another QB in history that would have been handed the MVP after a performance in which he produced more turnovers than TDs and was not involved either a late game winning or game-clinching drive.

Might be a little off topic but was just listening to Joe and Evan, and found myself really impressed. They are so much better than ANYTHING Boston sports radio has to offer. A caller just said Brady folded like a cheap suit, and Joe and Evan went NUTS on him. Mind you Joe HATES the Pats and lives and dies with the Jets. Said Brady got hammered all day, and still was 2 points away from a tie. The next lady called and said Brady was garbage, and Eli was great, and called Joe a brady Lover! Joe took her apart.

I mention this because it is a NY sports radio station, and Joe and Evan both die hard Jets fans, and they were standing against morons and up for reality. Refreshing to hear, a billion times more fair, and balanced, then Fat Mike.

Glad I turned it on, as was resolved not to listen to any talk radio for a few days, but missed it, so took a shot.

I have been -- it was all Super Bowl quiz during my drive (which is now four questions for $1K PC Richards gift card; Super Bowl trip is drawn at random from those who get the questions right). There is an audio stumping all that I could swear is Cam Newton, but do his audios have to be from Super Bowl pressers?

Also, Brady was the piece of cake answer to a couple of his questions. When in doubt, say "Brady" is a good way to play this year, and know the score to the past couple of SBs.

Not sure about Evan but I listened to Joe for many years while he was doing overnights He is a diehard Jets fan as you describe but he loved Belichick and was one of the first to declare (right after Super Bowl XXXVI as I recall) that Brady could become a great QB and the Patriots would be good for a long time. He always gave the Pats their due unlike you know who.

OMG Turned Mike on for one second, guy called and said Gronkowski was held byTalib why didn't the ref throw the flag, Mike said sure, he grabbed him, but three guys were covering him, and Brady threw up a prayer, and he couldn't have caught it, so since a guy inadvertently grabbed his jersey why give Brady a bail out!!!! Can't make this stuff up. Unbelievable. Retire you fat piece of shite.

Mike is correct, you're being a crazy homer. That would have been a ridiculous flag.
