Says he did not hit Soriano on purpose but he did hit Jeter on purpose. Also says he doesn't like the shift, hinders his location options.

As flawed as Tanks is, he's such a good guy to interview Pedro. With his Rain Man memory and being so invested in baseball during his prime, he was bringing up everything that I would have wanted him to . None of the Boston guys could interview him half as well. They'd focus on something like a stupid story starring Manny Ramirez or Kevin Millar. Plus, Tank admits at the end that he ignored Pedro's press handler and kept him on way past he was supposed to.

If anyone missed it, CBS posts all of Francesa's interview to his show's podcast.

Caller suggesting Bogaerts for Syndergaard.  As a Mets fan i say no...what do you Sox fans think?
Ask me in about a month.  Last May, Bogaerts went on a tear at the plate, began to improve at short, and then it all cratered when the Sox brought back JD Drew to play SS, so that X could move to 3rd when WMB was hurt.  But for 4 weeks, we did witness what all the hype was about.

The Sox have implicitly positioned Bogaerts to be the next big thing.  Like a young Nomar, before the fall.  Put a great hitter who can drive the ball at a key defensive position, add water stir, bake at 375 for 40 minutes and, voila!  you have a 7 WAR player.  In spite of his struggles, at 22, there's still plenty of time, even if we're biting our nails to the nib.

I was advocating this dealin the off season. Now, I would not do it.Xander is playing much better defensivelyplus he seems to be much lessvulnerable to the outside slider.Syndergaard has also shown some maturity issues on the social media side. He is a big arm but in a major market he might be a risk as far as dealing with adversity.

The Brady/Patriots penalties were like Christmas to Francesa today..."I knew he was guilty" "I know people in da NFL that told me he was guilty" "He did it, he got suspended, and that's it"....kinda seems to be forgetting how he stuck up for Arod and wouldn't let it go...

Said the Pats have an actual dept. that specializes in black ops.  Their only job is to find loopholes in the rules, and find ways to circumvent the rules.  He stopped just short of comparing Ernie Adams to James Jesus Anglican.

Flipside:  next caller poo-poo'd Deflategate in its entirety, and it eventually came out that he was on the ~'64-66 USC football team.  Mike thought he was getting punked, so he vetted him in a very low key way.  Once Mike was convinced the caller was legit, Mike was like a kid in a candy store:  went over the caller's CV, asked about good John McKay stories, etc.  It was great radio, as Mike was really into it......

He's very self-righteous for a guy who grew up rooting for a team that won championships behind the scuffing of Whitey Ford, the Chairman of the Fraud, and who used to regularly have John Madden on his show.  Go watch the America's Game on the 1976 Raiders, and you'll see them bragging about how they used to submit their pads to the refs for inspection and then alter them before the game.

And don't get me started on his defense of A-Fraud.

Francesa is the best sports talk guy, IMO.  But holy crap he is insufferable and at times, incredibly stupid.

Yesterday a caller was talking about how inconsequential the inflation rule is and Mike responded with, "Well why have the rule then?"  He couldn't seem to grasp that not all rules are the same.  That there is a rule against jaywalking and a rule against murder, but just because there are rules against those two things doesn't mean that both are on the same level of significance.

Moreover, he then asked the caller (who was an idiot, unable to make this basic point) if ball inflation was so insignificant, why would the Patriots risk this penalty to do it.  As if that question is an answer unto itself.

The real answer, of course, is this:  Nobody on planet earth ever IMAGINED the Pats would receive this kind of punishment for this minor of an infraction.  So it wasn't like they sat there and thought, hmmmmm, if we do this, we're risking losing Brady for 4 games, being fined essentially $3 million, and losing two draft picks, so is it worth it?

Pats fan did no favors by claiming this is all a racial witch hunt by the media because they don't like the racial make up of the team...

Tony Kornheiser tried to sort of kind of make the same argument on PTI. It's nonsensical no matter who tries to make this terrible point.

FYI Mike's current contract runs until 2017. Unless he negotiated some kind of buyout he'll be around for another year and a half.
The way he was he talking yesterday, it sounded like a deal was just about in place for him to hang it up.

I think he's still a well informed and entertaining voice on most subjects, has a pretty good command of facts, and one of the best sports talk guys I've listened to. I know where he's hopelessly biased and I discount for that.

Until recently, I've listened to Francesa since he went on the air with Mike and the Mad Dog in 1989.  With the exception of the bolded, your description of Francesa is generally accurate.

When he was paired with Russo, he was an informed, intelligent voice of reason.  What we didn't know is that despite his general idiocy, Russo performed a valuable service - he acted as a check on Francesa's enormous ego and insufferable arrogance.  And with Russo gone, these elements of his character have surged to the front and Mike can now be charitably described as a lazy, ignorant prick on virtually any topic.

I haven't missed him since I stopped listening two years ago.  (I did listen to his interview with A-Rod, if only to be able to criticize.)  His only purpose now is as an object of mockery.

I agree that Russo acted as a balance and that FF unchecked can let his biases get the better of him. And he is brutally arrogant and can be infuriating at times as he often ignores facts and promotes his POV. I still think he's a relatively good listen, even if i get pissed listening to him.

He is still very good at two things.

1) after a big NY sports win/loss, I still try to hear his open. I am always entertained by this even if I often disagree.

2) he is still great at sports history. If a famous ex-athlete or a writer plugging their new biography or book drops by, they will invariably get an hour with Mike going in-depth on a number of topics.

A montage of Francesa being wrong after wrong after wrong, my guess is someone who spent enough time researching this could make one of these every month:

There was a day many years ago with Chris that the FF was really something

Sure - the resentments and pig headed thought processes were already in stone - but he was hungry and Russo was a fucking riot. I listened very regularly from the beginning until Russo left. I hardly listen any longer and only listen for howls. He lost any ability to reason. His arrogance grew beyond what seemed possible and his resentments grew beyond. He allowed all if this cloud any bit of judgement/sense he once had. He thinks he's an expert on everything he thinks he's an expert on - which is everything except hockey.

I always thought Russo was a screaming idiot and still do, I turn off MLBN whenever he is on. Francesa was quite smart when he started, but he has been a caricature of himself for years.

As he finished the show yesterday he went more an more into how untenable things are between him and "the company"..."there were things that i asked for that i didn't think were unreasonable"...i think he despises what the morning show, Esaison & Carton, get away with at his expense...he mentioned how he was a contract so he can't just leave...my guess is he's gone after the next football season,,,
