Like I said yesterday:

He's an entertainer and being entertaining here.

And you can see he did it to generate interest / calls from the Bostonians.

I've never heard so many Boston accents on WFAN before.

No conflict of interests there.
I believe that the official title has the word champion in there somewhere. Mike's full of shit on Ortiz.

EDIT: Can someone please call Mike and ask if Jack Morris is a hall of famer? I'm curious about his answer since Ortiz's "postseason prowess" doesn't sway him.

Funny you should mention it. Seems like every time he talks about the HoF he wonders aloud why Morris isn't in.

He also said after Pettite won Game 3 of the 2010 ALCS that if Pettite won game 7, he should be a lock for the Hall. Of course, the series only went six, but PEDs didn't factor into his thinking at all.

I've watched/listened to more Francesa than most people should endure.

A Mike Francesa impersonation, if he was on the radio in 1776.

On last night: Gronk being mugged and face-guarded ball intercepted. Clearly a penalty, tough to call PI, but bail-out call is holding give them another play at the 13.

The refs have a meeting, pick-up the flag, but they just run off the field. No explanation

This is where the NFL has a problem, they should march the ref and put him on camera and have him explain why they picked up the flag.

Nonsense!

Whats the call? Everyone in America saw the play and flag!!!

And don't forget the requisite mention of Spygate and the Tuck Rule. Though overall he seems to be taking a pretty fair stance.

edit: now he's denying it could be PI. Never mind...resume normal Francesa programming.

Just started listening.  Fat Mike asking him the right questions.  Slappy says he's completely innocent.

The calls Fatty is receiving after Slappy are interesting.  I think he's up to the fifth post-interview call and no one buys what Slappy is saying.

Mike is such a hypocrit - After burying Papi duuring the Series for taking steroids, he now is saying that you have to prove ARod took them, and he takes his word when Arod denies using them.

Below is the verbate for those interested. Also, you won't see video of this on ESPN. Why? Because Mike is STILL bitter about ESPN banning talent from appearing on his show, so he is refusing to share the footage with ESPN.

VERBATIM:

Rodriguez: I shouldn't serve one inning. And this guy should come to our city, I know he doesn't like New York, I love this city, I love being a Yankee, my daughters grew up in this city. And for the embarassment that this guy has put me and my family through, and he doesn't have the courage to come see me and tell me this is why I'm going to destroy your career, and I have to explain this to my daughters every day.

Rodriguez: I was very upset, I probably overreacted, but it came from the heart and this has been a very difficult process. I felt that the reason I didn't go to Letterman or Leno or I didn't come on your show or the hundreds of invitations was out of the respect for the game, to Michael Weiner and to Manfred and to the commissioner because this is the game that I love I spent 20 years in the big leagues, I've worked my tail off and at the end of the day, I've always said to you and other media members that I will tell my story, I will have a platform and a forum. I thought rightfully so that this should end with Selig on Thursday and me on Friday under Oath, put your money where your mouth is.

Francesa: Were you guilty of any of these charges?
Rodriguez: No and I shouldn't serve one inning.
Francesa: Did you do anything wrong?
Rodriguez: No.
Francesa: Did you do any PED's?
Rodriguez: No.
Francesa: Did you obstruct any witnesses? Did you do anything they accused you of doing?
Rodriguez: No.
Francesa: Nothing?Rodriguez: Nothing.Francesa: So you're guilty in your mind of nothing?
Rodriguez: I feel that I should be there opening day. And that's what I'm working hard for.
Francesa: So lets get that on the record, you say you did not do these PED's that they are accusing you of doing?
Rodriguez: You are correct Mike.

Rodriguez:(About Bud Selig) I said great, we're gonna get him on Thursday, and I'll speak on Friday. This is the way it should end. Today we hear, he's not coming. I know you don't like New York, but you gotta come face me. This is my whole life, my legacy. I'm part of history, so if you're going to try and destroy all of that, I'm saying no and you tell me why I should serve one inning. Because you're retiring next year? That's not fair Mike.

Why would he share it? That is an unreal score for him today. ESPN blocks all talent and audio from appearing on WFAN. The extra added bonus of the "voice of the Yankees", Michael Kay, not getting him on has to make it even sweeter.

I agree with Stu. A real coup for Tank & he has no incentive to play nice with his largest competitor. I'm sure CBS will appreciate the audio & video he scored.

When I got up this AM I flicked on Mike & Mike. It was 5:00 AM Montana time, their second hour, and I expected them to lead with A-Rod. Instead Greenie down talked yesterday's drama and Golic (with a confused look on his face) read off a notecard that Selig had never had to testify before (this has been debunked in Radomski's lounge). Greenie then went to a 1800-Flowers pitch.

This is the kind of story Greenie and ESPN live for. I was glad to see them fumbling around even though I felt a bit bad for Golic.

The good news for those of us enjoying this story is that Arod, who usually plays the PR game badly, will feel emboldened by the good PR day he got by drilling batting practice fastballs and will likely erase any ground he gained in the court of public opinion with a PR faux pas in the next few days.

Mad Dog rippin on Mike...

The Daily News' Bob Raissman captured Russo's comments on the one-on-one. Here's what Mad Dog said about Francesa's interview:

• Russo on Francesa's treatment of Rodriguez: "I can't understand. Mike is smarter than this, to be duped by A-Rod and fall into this trap. This is the guy you're going to defend -- A-Rod? He knows A-Rod did steroids. What do you think, Mike's stupid? He knows. ... Now Mike has plenty of ratings, plenty of exposure, plenty of money and plenty of guests. Does he need to coddle A-Rod to get back-page headlines after 30 years in the media business?"
• Mad Dog's insights into Francesa: "Mike usually sees conspiracy theories all over the place. And nine times out of 10 he's right. ... Mike wants the show to have integrity in terms of opinions, nothing slanted -- being honest. That's always been his main goal and rightfully so. This time he's gone the other way."
• On Francesa's view of MLB: "I know Mike doesn't like [Bud] Selig. I know Mike is down on baseball. (He calls) Selig a used car salesman. Fair point. Fair opinion. I don't have a problem with that. But for Mike to go down this path constantly with A-Rod when he knows deep down A-Rod is a cheat -- he knows it."
• Russo, regarding Francesa's line of questioning: "How could Mike not say: 'Come on A-Rod, you told Katie Couric the same thing (in 2007). Why am I supposed to believe you now?' I'm shocked. Mike is too savvy, too thorough an interrogator, not to go there. It's like he's handing A-Rod a parachute."

He comes from a Catholic family who were all big JFK fans. He's been a big buff on Kennedy through the years- he and Dog used to have long conspiracy talks on air.

The thread is derailed enough but he argument is that he cut taxes, was anti-abortion and strongly pro gun rights. Those positions were main stream democrat when he was alive, I personally have little doubt his positions would evolve with the party.

All we can say for sure is that if JFK were alive today he would be really old.

I'm not accusing you of this, but this reminds me of when conservatives latched on to Ashton Kutcher as a bastion of conservative values when he made a speech about work ethic. I don't think Kennedy, as a self-described liberal, would make any friends with modern day Republicans with his ideas on expanding civil rights, immigrant rights and government programs. He was repeatedly accused of being a communist sympathizer.

The Meadowlands Super Bowl probably will come up in that context.

While he loves to smash the Jets, he's going to want to talk Giants-Cowboys.

He will begin with all the chirping the Giant defenders did before this game, and then hammer them for failing to make a play when the game was on the line.

Then he will take four hours of calls about how the MFYs won the offseason by signing Brian McCann.

How many callers get cut off?  It was a weekend from hell, especially if he went to bed early.

Totally focused on Giants.

Mentioned the "crazy day" in the NFL, including "last night's game, if you stuck with it."

He needs to revisit the run-up to the last Pats/Giants SB.  Bolded is not accurate.

where I was last at
I just got back to my office and heard the tail-end of Francesa say something along the lines, "the Patriots are not a Superbowl team"

I can understand that this Pat team has a lot of blemishes, but which AFC or NFC team doesn't?

Barring injuries, anybody other than the Pats or Denver (maybe KC) out of the AFC would be a surprise.
