Oh,the caterwauling going on during the end of the show over the latest Jeteh developments. I hope some of you heard it out there. Mike was over the top critical of what the Yankees were doing to the captain, and most callers agreed. Good stuff.
First time I've listened to Francesa in a long time and I picked a good day. My favorite was the caller Mike just let scream for about a minute. "AND IF THEY LET JETER GO I AM NEVAH EVAH SETTIN' FOOT INSIDE YANKEE STADIUM!"

I think Mike was more offended that the Yankees were not entirely truthful with him about how committed they were to these negotiations and not doing anything that would disrespect the Cap'n. No one tells untruths to the big man, oh the horror.

Thanksgiving comes twice to the Francesa household. I expect the big fella to put his dislike of BB aside and carve up the other big fella like a turkey. What's the over/under on "embarrassing"? This ought to be fun.

The Fat Man detests the Jets and the feeling is mutual. So much so, the organization supposedly banned players from doing any interviews with him anymore. Francesca claims it's a ban on the entire FAN and they only go to NY's ESPN radio, but the past two weeks many Jets have done other WFAN shows, including Benigno and Roberts who come on right before him.

He's gonna skewer Ryan and the Gang Green today. Can't wait.

"utter embarrassment ... outclassed from soup to nuts ... and you don't know whether they get it ... they are so inflated, so puffed up ... they have accomplished nothing ... they talk like they 3 or 4 SBs in the case "

edit ... "RR got up there last night, his lower lip was quivering a little bit ... it NEVER stops, it NEVER gets back to reality ... you don't have a history yet"

I set the DVR for Fat Mike's show today. I can't wait to watch it and the quotes from his open are great stuff. I'm sure he was sharpening his knives as he was watching the Pats destroy them last night.

killing RR now for today comparing this team to the "85 Chicago Bears

"The man is out there in the ozone somewhere ... You are 1 and 3 this year against good teams .... Does NOTHING sink in ... Are we in the real world here -- that's what we worry about!"

Did Rex say that today? I didn't see it last night or in any of the game stories/coverage this morning. Mike is totally right about this one. The bluster from Rex and the Jets has been out of control all year and today is not the day to pick right up with more of it.

Yes. Mike played the sound bite, in context.

What was the context? And when was it said?
It was today and the context was Ryan said this reminded him of the Monday night game in '85 when the Dolphins beat the Bears. So he pointed out that even through Bears lost the game they went on to win the Super Bowl. And he said just like the Bears goal was to win the Super Bowl that's the Jets goal.

It was said today.

Ryan said it was a bad loss. But an equally bad loss was that suffered by his dad as DC of the "85 Bears in Miami. Like the "85 Bears, the Jets' goal remains the same - SB

newsflash -- he just said that BB/Brady HC/QB axis is as good as any that ever came down the pike -- and may be the best ever

Mike is particularly effective today because is allowing that RR may prove to be a good HC ... veneer of impartiaity

But he is crushing him over the talk ... "He is talking .400 and hitting .280" ... "when is the talk going to stop?" etc

"Now the Yanks are saying to themselves, now there is no way in heaven we are not getting Mr. Lee."

Given the RS moves, which make them " a very serious baseball team." RS signing of Crawford, "stunning news ... big news."

Deflected to an attack on the Mets. FO being disingenuous on whether they'll compete or not. Disconnect between words and deeds. Don't want to acknowledge bare-bones'ing it cause they will suffer at the gate.

"No one is asking them to sign Mr. Lee. There are always small ways to improve the team -- esp with all the brain power they've got out there (wink/wink)."

This is so funny.

Red Sox sign Crawford, Yankees have 7-year deal on the table with Lee - and, today, Mike is spending his time talking about the Mets and how cheap they are.

What will Mike talk about if Texas signs Lee - the Islanders?

"Jo-Jo from Staten Island, what's up Jo-Jo?"

Jo-Jo -- "To me, the Mets are despicable ..."

Mission accomplished.

I was just about to post this. He talked about Crawford for literally 30 seconds and then went right to talking about awful the Mets are for the next 45 minutes. Hysterical.

Meanwhile, during a commercial break in Mike's show, YES runs a promo for their Hot Stove show: "Find out what the Yankees plan in the free agent market" with shots of Crawford.

Understandable that it hasn't been pulled yet, but still amusing.

"Lee is a difference maker, a guy who can be the difference between winning and losing a World Series. But I'm stunned by the Werth and Crawford deals. Especially Crawford. His contract is outrageous, and I NEVER would have given him that kind of money. The guy has never even hit 20 home runs."

He just said that Bay only got 4/$60M and he is in the same category as Crawford and Werth. "These contracts are ridiculous!"

Mike showing stunning ignorance of the word fungibility. "It means uniqueness, it means you can't be easily replaced."
I just came back to post this. Absolutely hilarious. And that he cited some class he took on contract law as where he learned its meaning makes it that much more side splitting.

The fungible conversation went on for a long time and was really painful.

When I turned on the radio, he was talking about Crawford. Very shortly thereafter, he was talking about who would be the most revered Yankee in the future.

Wow, that clip is amazing! It looks like after his initial misuse of the word someone clued him in on the definition of fungibility and then he came back and tried to argue that it in contract terms it means the opposite of what it really means.

I tried a bit of transcription just to amuse myself, but it got too painful to keep listening. Anyway, here are a few gems:

"He's got what you would call fungibility ... a uniqueness that he is irreplaceable because there's not one like him, he is unique ... and I'd say he has fungibility."

After he comes back to it:

"The 'Law of Fungibility' is that ... you have replacement value, but the player is the direct opposite. So you argue the player is not fungible because he has a uniqueness ... so fungible would be the direct opposite.

"You can't remedy the contract because the player is unique ... and can not be replaced ... as I remember it from my days of taking those things in school."

In fact I did not. It's Dr. Kenneth Noisewater, isn't it.
Okay...I have no idea what the hell that means. I thought, maybe incorrectly, you were a Fordham U grad like me. John Skelton is starting this week at QB this week. He's the first FU player drafted in the NFL since 1968 and now he's gonna start this weekend (I'm sure he'll suck like the rest of the Arizona QBs).

Sorry to derail this thread. Let's continue to bash The Fat Man.

Haha--just another "Anchorman" reference, my bad... I am a Fordham grad, but not enough of an NFL fan to have heard, that's incredible. Thanks for the heads up, I'm definitely checking that out. Our moments where this is concerned are so few and far between. We'll always have Smush though, right? ;-)

I would have paid someone to call up Mike and point out that Jeter has averaged only 15 HR's a season in his career and has a whopping career high of 24, then ask why the Yankees ever gave him $20 million a year. Would have been fun to see/hear Mike try to dismiss that one.

It's clearly because Jeter is fungible.

Well he would have an answer. Before the negotiations got contentious he said that a deal would be a piece of cake and there was going to be no issues. He felt he was going to get over 20 mill because well because he is Derek Jeter and you can't put a price tag on that.

" Contentious" being a term we covered in school. It means that there is a foregone end result, but to make the result more acceptable and rewarding to both sides during the negotiations, there has to be a give and take along the way whether you want it or not. Jeter knew he was gonna sign for a lot of money, the Yankees knew he was gonna sign for a lot of money, but they couldn't just go out and sign the deal in the first day or two. They have to go thru these motions because both sides expect it........

I was at FU at the same time as Smush, and I remember very clearly the Communications department folks did, as their final, a "morning talk show" that they produced. During the sports segment (anchored by ESPN's own MIKE YAM), they interviewed Smush asking him why he'd just declared early for the draft as a guard out of Fordham. His answer was literally "I hate doin' papers and stuff." One of the funniest spit take moments of my life. I wish I still had that on tape.

Interesting tidbit, Francesa interviewed Viking coach Leslie Frazier during the week. During the interview he told Frazier "people say you're like Tony Dungy, but not because you're African-American". This morning on his weekly Sunday NFL show he replayed the interview (as he does every Sunday with whatever coach he spoke to during the week). The comment was edited out of the show today.
