Did anyone else in the NY area watch Mike'd Up on WNBC last night?

Did you notice that they had a giant bowl of donuts sitting on the table in front of him?

I don't watch the show regularly. Is that normal? I couldn't believe my eyes. It's like having a big stack of porn magazines on Eliot Spitzer's desk during Parker Spitzer.

Haha. I did the same thing. He said something along the lines of "But damn it, Tebow finds a way to get it done". I thought, what...didn't they lose?

Uggh. Tune in for Mike's brilliant analysis of the weekend's NFL action and what do I get? Ten minutes of him moralizing about the Arizona shootings and how sports provides a good distraction from depressing news. Yeah, I really care about his thoughts on this...

15 minutes on the Arizona shooting. Then break. Now 5 minutes on the BC/Nevada Bowl game last night. Now currently talking about Cam Newton and Auburn.

Hysterical. He'll do anything to anger Jet fans. I give him credit, his passive/agressive behavior is off the charts.

Update - He's a half hour into the show and it's KC Chiefs talk now. Still nothing on the Jets. Haha. Crazy.

The MF thread at TGG.com is hilarious. If they know they won't get any Jets talk from him, why are you listening? Go to 1050.
Oh that's funny, I just looked at two pages, they HATE him.

Just stole this:

Taking callers after the commercial.. first caller (aka intern in the back):

"Hey Mike, great opening to your show.. couldn't agree more.. terrible tragedy in Arizona, really just a terrible thing and it's times like this that you can really tell that football doesn't matter and it's no time to hear a clown, just a total CLOWN like Rex Ryan talk about his personal battle with Belichick and Brady.. this guy is ridiculous and there's no need for it. I'll hang up and listen to your thoughts, keep up the good work!"

Mike: "Danks fuh da cawl.. not much maw to add to that.. terrible trajady.. just an uttah disastah out there and let me tell ya.. he's right about Rex.. we'll get into dat latah.. but this is just ridiculous now with Rex.."

Mike's in a bad mood today.

A caller asked him to pronounce "Caldwell" correctly and Mike got very offended -- "If you don't like the way I pronounce my l's and r's, wait 'til I'm gone on the next guy will do it the way you like it."

Mike thinks the Pats D is not very good -- he thinks its success is due solely to the huge leads the offense has built up. He cites the Packers game as proving how bad the defense is -- when the game was close so the opposition could both pass and run, the Pats' D struggled against a back-up QB.

Although he has yet to discuss the Jets, I think he may pick the Jets by the end of the week.

He's started in on Ryan. Saying with Ryan this press conference performance today was premeditated to take the pressure off his players by saying it's Rex v. Belichick, and the reason they lost last time was coaching, and some of the players might buy it. But says it's pointless to try and tweak Brady, Brady doesn't care.

All in all, pretty fair take on Rex.

Can't wait to listen today and hear what he has to say about Cromartie's comments about Brady. Plus Rex has a PC today sometime and so I'm sure he'll say something stupid again. Mike does seem to have contempt for a lot of his audience. However, he seems more relaxed on his Sunday morning NFL show. Maybe thats because its a national show and he feels like he can't be as harsh.

Some analyst recently pointed out that Cromartie is overrated because he's the type of player who has made a number of highlight reel plays in part because he gets so many opportunities since--even before he was paired with Revis--no one has ever been afraid to throw to his side.

A guy wanted to discuss the verbal banter between the Pats and Jets and said, "Mike, I don't know if you're old enough to remember but it reminds me of the rivarly between Jake Roberts and Rick Martel." Mike said, "What? Who? What sport is that?" The guy answers, "Wrestling" and Mike hangs up on him. Funny stuff.

Here's Mike discussing wrestling and the only cartoon he ever watched. It was called Crusader Rabbit.

I can't wait to see what else Mike finds to talk about, to avoid opening the show with the Jets. My guess it will be Aaron Rodgers.

Fair is fair. Mike had it absolutely right in his pre-game analysis. He said all week the Jets would dare the Pats to run the ball, drop as many as eight into coverage, and try to slow the tempo of the game. Isnt that exactly what transpired? He may be the single most arrogant and smug commentator of all time but, give him his props on this one.

Are Francesa and the Jets still feuding? I remember last week he said Tannenbaum, the Jets GM, told Mike earlier in the season he would come on the show, but Mike refused. I don't know the entire backstory as to why they're fighting, but it would be amusing, if the Jets made it to the SB, to leave Mike without any Jet guests the entire week.

Francesa saying that BB and Brady took a step back in their legacy. Saying BB will never catch lombardi, and that BB will never be Montana.

Francesca starting out giving the Jets a little credit, but I'm pretty sure he'll be dancing on their grave soon. "Give the Jets credit...But..."

How many minutes in before he says the Jets were totally unprepared to begin the game? Or does he give them slack for surviving two tough road games.

Does Mike do Mike and the Marquis without the Dog? always riveting when he hangs up on folks trying to look stuff up on the internet as they repeat the question to stall for time.

I'm pretty sure he was doing a Mike and the Marquis-esque game last year.

He did it last year. Still called it Mike & The Marquis, but it was sponsored by Marquis Jet and the winner got a private jet to the game.

He's Mike Francesca on the Fan...Mike'd Up...Mike'd Up
Mike hosted Cashman at some event this am
1. Cashman upset about signing Soriano, said this happens with ownership sometimes he understands
2. Gave Lee a tremendous offer and tried to pull it back as sensed philly moving in
3. very fair and honest with Jeter negotiations, he is the shortstop, move to outfield eventually not 3rd base
4. high on russell martin
5. posada is a dh not a catcher this year
6. optimistic 'andy' will be back as 4th starter
7. yanks still in market for starting pitching 24/7
8. red sox better team on paper mike agrees

ok will not get those 20 minutes back, yankee calls up next.

Mike also said that the Red Sox have a higher payroll than the Yankees. I tried to find up to date team payrolls, but I can't verify this.
That's patently false. Right now the Yankees are around $200m and the Sox are around $165m (in actual dollars, not AAV). The Phillies and Angels are closer to the Red Sox than the Sox are to the Yankees.

This isn't true. Cashman said it to Olney a while back and Buster tweeted it. Ever since then people keep claiming it's a fact, but it's not. These numbers aren't final but it gives you an estimation...

Uggh, no kidding. Those are both immediate hit any button on the car radio ads for me.

I'm always amazed at some of the ads that run on this station. I can't remember exactly what it was, but Mike & the Mad Dog both did voiceover commercials on WFAN for some sleazy penny stock guy a few years ago - one of those charlatans who claims his "proven method" will earn you riches in the stock market. There were numerous reports in the press about what a crook this guy was while they were lending their credibility to this guy by doing his commercials. Anything for a buck, I guess.

Boy do I agree on the Brad Benson. It's hard for me to understand how any thinking human could find them funny. But the name of the dealership is in my head, and maybe that 's all that matters. the ads with the talking babies, on the other hand, are as funny as any I have ever seen, but even after seeing them 100 times, I don't know what the product is.

I know this is going to change, but compare these two salaries:

Player 1
Age: 35
2011 salary: $32,000,000
2010 stats: .270/.341/.506/.847, 123 ops+, bdWAR (-0.7), bWAR (2.9)

Player 2
Age: 28
2011 salary: $6,300,000
2010 stats: .298/.393/.511/.904, 152 ops+, bdWAR (0.6), bWAR (6.3)

So, um, yeah, Alex Rodriguez in 2011 is going to be worth 5 times what Adrian Gonzalez is worth. Just thought that was interesting.

He keeps talking about how great Betances and Banuelos are gonna be when they come up after hearing Cashman rave about them. The funny thing is he has no idea how to pronounce either player's name. I don't think he ever heard of either guy until this morning.
I totally believe this because I know exactly what you're talking about. You can always tell when that guy is trying to pass off new info he has as something he's obviously believed from the start.

Kim Jones is on with Francesa right now and man, is she good. She's working without notes and it's impressive how knowledgeable she is. She doesn't back down from Francesa and she doesn't make a big show of taking him on either. It's obvious that Francesa respects her point of view. And she's succinct. Francesa's doing 90% of the talking and Jones is making as many points as he is.

She's not bad looking either and she's definitely one of these women whose knowledge of sports makes her more attractive (to me at least).

She's already got a great job but she could go a lot bigger. She could go national easily.
