Beningno and Roberts talked Knicks and Mets 12-1 must have missed Joe's meltdown as figured he'd still be upset at noon but think he forced himself to move on.

This is quite entertaining right now. "People in the media bought into it...what you have now is a second year coach with a second year quaterback that has no answers...When you build something on air and nonsense things can come tumbling down and right now it's tumbling down."

"that is just emblematic of the foolin' around, the foolin' around on Hard Knocks, bringing the hamburgers on the field ... where is the foolin' around now!?"

"when you build stuff on air, on nonsense and a lot of bluster, it comes tumblin' down..."

"hey folks, ground and pound left town lst year ... I told you that ... running the ball is a mentality ... they don't know who they are ... the QB is lost ... "

"Bart ... shut up ... here is what I'd like you to do -- cover someone! ... what a mess"

Mike now enraged that the Jets just sent Alosi to talk to the media again, alone, without anyone from the Jets organization. He's mad neither the owner, coach, or GM has made any kind of public statement. Good stuff.

"Nobody handles this kind of stuff worse than the Jets. Can you be any more clueless!!!"

Mike on Jet coach Sal Alosi facing the media by himself, and knowing nothing of his own future:

WHO'S SPEAKING FOR THE ORGANIZATION?!

Some sweet sweet schadenfreude today. Succession of Vinny from Queens calling up to plead with Ryan to shut up and be more like Belichick.

Same old Jets! Yes!

Interesting tidbit, Francesa interviewed Viking coach Leslie Frazier during the week. During the interview he told Frazier "people say you're like Tony Dungy, but not because you're African-American". This morning on his weekly Sunday NFL show he replayed the interview (as he does every Sunday with whatever coach he spoke to during the week). The comment was edited out of the show today.
Because he also rides a high horse?

Mushnick:
Professa Mike Francesa was at his see-through best on Friday. Addressing the Cliff Lee hunt, he said that Lee has "fungibility." Then, His Highness's sense of noblesse oblige kicked in. He explained the word's meaning to his audience of serfs, peons, vassals and the ill-bred.

Fungibility, said Fran-say-so, means "uniqueness, unique."

Gong! It not only doesn't mean unique, it means almost the opposite. Fungibility means to possess such similar qualities that the items can be interchangeable.

Francesa, apparently having been informed off-air of his error, later tried to re-explain fungibility, as if he knew its meaning but might have left his audience of sloggers and grunts confused -- as if we misheard and he didn't misspeak. But his protracted, contradictory explanation just dug him deeper.

He might have said, "You know, my definition of fungibility, earlier, was wrong" and been done with it. Fat chance.

I heard the first part of Mike's fungibility gaffe but not the second part. Hahaha, that was great. '...I'm trying to remember because it was a long time ago...' (ie. how do I talk my way out of this one?) Fail.

Is Francesa ducking WFAN until the Lee thing gets replaced in the news cycle?
It was announced around noon Monday that he would not be in Tuesday; Lee's signing became public about 12 hours after that. But that doesn't account for yesterday's absence.

We know what's going to happen. Just as Mike quickly pivoted Monday from the Crawford signing to the Mets' suckitude, he will breeze past Lee and then feast on the Jets' -- nobody believes that Sal was a 'lone nutter' and how the Jets are going to get crushed in Pittsburgh this week and are at risk of completely unwinding.

Don't believe the Yanks have done enough this week to offset Lee loss and Sox gains. So ... this gets a drive by, and then he lights into the Jets, their preposterous lying and their season in peril like a great white shark..

didn't take him long

edit --

"nonsense ... no one believes you ... no one in the LEAGUE believes you ... the idea that he organized this, no one in the WORLD believes that ... enormous coverup ...'

Caller from Harlem ripping Mike for ripping the Jets ... "you repeat and repeat and repeat" ... "when people on radio challenge you, you either shout at them or cut them off"

Mike > "Did I cause any of this ... did I stick my leg out? "

EDIT -- We're almost 2 hours into the show, and it's all JETS ...

You nailed it 100 percent! Mike did not spend more than 3 minutes of the opening talking about Lee. If you asked him about ducking the issue, his response would be that it's a "Football Friday". However, I think his audience wants more that a casual reference to the Lee signing. If Lee had signed with the Spankees, there is no doubt in my mind, he would have led off the show with it. In fact, he nmight have even cancelled his vacation to host his show on Tuesday or Wednesday for the press conference. It is on days like this that I wish the Mad Dog was still around to keep Mike honest. Personally, I used to look up to Mike and aspire to be like him. Like untold other youngsters growing up in the tri-state area in the late 80's early 90's, I used to always look forward to Mike's analysis of the sports topic of the day. IMHO, the show has never recovered from the loss of Chris Russo. The past 2 years have revealed Francesa to be both a hypocrite and a fraud. How sad it is.

He better not sidestep it tomorrow since it's his only show of the week. If you're in the NYC area, tune into Mike'd Up after the Patriots game on NBC 4. Should be classic too.
if the Jets lose...he'll manage to spend most of the time on that since his hatred for all things Jets is beyond normal...

There are three doors --

1. Praise the Jets.

2. Acknowledge what even the NY Times has acknowledged was an historic and perhaps game changing defeat insofar as Coughlin is concerned.

3. Call in sick.

There is story here right in Mike's wheelhouse if he can rise to the occasion and it involves, of all people, Bill Cowher, who recently and obviously leaked to Mort of ESPN not only that he is coming back, but also his job preferences -- NYG, Miami, and Houston. This is an incredible breach of procotol by such a longstanding member of the HC fraternity.

Now Cowher is endlessly ballwashed by the sports msm. Mike is perhaps uniquely positioned to call BS on this and engage on "the Giants in crisis."

Will he?

He will be epic tomorrow for sure. I can't wait!
For sure? He completely ducked the Lee situation.

Francesa has to know on some level that a huge part of his popularity is being The Sports Pope and handing down judgment from on high during the 1 o'clock hour. If he ducks it again then there is literally no reason to listen to him. The interviews I can just get on iTunes.

Tune in ... he's doing the Giants drama

EDIT -- "the anatomy of a Disaster ... You don't get over these!"

"Epic in every possible way ... their tight end walks in, you say 'huh' but don't get too upset ... onside kick -- Tom Coughlin is the most culpable"

Later -- "He ran for 100 yards in the 4th quarter !!!! ... He has the entire building in his mercy! ... Giants fans had put the game in the safe deposit box ... As soon as he ran 33 yards, you knew it was tied up -- no way you are going to stop him there!"

Getting after "the Pope" for not sufficiently getting after Coughlin --

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/2010/12/21/2010-12-21_mike_francesa_lets_giants_off_the_hook_for_sunday_meltdown_against_eagles_on_ch_.html

I didn't think the Pope let the Giants "off the hook" -- but there also is little doubt in my mind the treatment of the Jets would have been harsher in the same situation.

To an outsider, this 'Jints/Jets divide is wide, deep and raw, it seems, and "the Pope" clearly is polarizing.

Did anyone else in the NY area watch Mike'd Up on WNBC last night?

Did you notice that they had a giant bowl of donuts sitting on the table in front of him?

I don't watch the show regularly. Is that normal? I couldn't believe my eyes. It's like having a big stack of porn magazines on Eliot Spitzer's desk during Parker Spitzer.
