Mike now blaming Gene Orza and the failed ARod deal for sinking the Yankees fortunes.
Carlin and Kim had to explain to him what Patron is.
Now Mike is regaling the gang about the time Schilling called in to him when he was a FA and looking for a deal and wanted to sign with the Yanks first but the Sox beat them to the punch. But Mike tried to get the deal done. :)

This is a joke w/out Russo. A sick, ridiculous folly of a joke.

I'm really sorry about this, but I'm horrible at it.
Can one of you (probably for about the 5th time) tell me where I can get the link to Mike and Dog the day after the Sox finished off the Yankees in 2004. I need to send it to a friend of mine. I can't find it, once again.
(I don't think this makes it into my top 100 posts)
It's in several parts on youtube, but here is part 1, the 1st 10 minutes of the show...

Do you really just come to this thread to rip Mike every day? :)

Apparently, you are still listening though.

Sorry if it comes off as whining- I keep hoping that it'll get better one of these days.
I hate Ordway and I've loved M&MD since they started, so this is really it for me and sports talk radio. I'm giving it about a million chances out of habit, but I keep getting disappointed. It's frustrating.
Ed Coleman on Friday and Monday brought nothing to the table. I heard that show in 1988 and it sucked then, too.
Kim & Carlin at least had some energy today although it comes off as Daddy Mike giving the kids a chance to talk at the dinner table until he gets bored or annoyed. He comes off as so condescending.
At some point I'll just give up and stop listening altogether and that will be a sad day for me. I want to like it, but i just can't get on board.
If I had the money to listen to Russo I'd do that and never look back.

WFAN should just forget about auditioning everybody else and give Kim Jones the job. She was great in the Heyman interview.
As long as Carlin isn't part of the deal.
He's insecure, and gets that whiny, shreiking voice when he can't convince others to agree with him.
Mike speaks to him like he is still his intern and Kim argues circles around him on any point on which they disagree.
Keep Jones, lose Carlin.

I agree. I actually like the dynamic with Carlin to. This is a huge improvement over solo Mike or Mike with Coleman.

ETA...thinking about it though, I wonder if she'd do it. She doesn't have to cover the Yankees right now, so it works, but she can't do this show and cover the Yankees, so it's a choice she'd have to make. I bet WFAN would pay her more, and I think a bonus is she'd still get to talk football which I get the feeling she loves.

let's see, working with Mike in Studio on the highest profile sports talk show in the country or traveling eight months of the year with the Yankees doing bit spots? and geting paid 3x or more for it? That is a no-brainer

Would that make the show too Yankee-centric? The great part about the old show was Mike and his overblown self being countered by Dog to keeep him somewhat grounded. Will Jones have that type of personality?

BTW, Benigno is really subdued today.

Yeah, Joe B is in today and he's got it dialed back a bit so far, but it's decent radio. I'm going to listen for a while longer. I could get used to this.

I wonder if it makes more sense for Mike to not pick a permanent host but to rotate co-hosts like The Big Show does. I really doubt they go this route, just thinking out loud.

UPDATE: Joe into it now. Screaming at the top of his lungs- "EVERYBODY HERE BOWS DOWN TO MIKE!"

I think a good idea would be to ahve the co-host be team-centric to what is topical, like the Giants, Mets, etc. Agreed on the best of Mike and Dog is Dog being Mike's foil and them getting under each other's skin and knowing how to press each other's buttons. But then being able to tag team on an interview

Mike and Evan Roberts are on today, and I was listening in the car and had to endure at least 15 minutes of the dullest political discussion I have ever heard.
It made our arguments about ringing the cowbells in Tampa appear scintillating in contrast.
Once again, of course, Mike fashions himself to be an expert in the field because he has read a few Truman biographies---or at least the Readers Digest versions.
And "had to endure" is the correct usage. I couldn't turn the dial because it fascinated me that someone from the booth wasn't screaming in both their ears to please stop, already.

ps: That's one reason I miss Dog----who probably doesn't know the country is in the midst of an election

Yeah, they just did 10 minutes on the election, covering about 5 subjects they have no business discussing on the air, both because it's not the subject matter of the show, and because neither has a clue.

Evan Roberts is pretty good, he's just a terrible match for Mike who clearly has no respect for him and keeps talking over and down at him. Joe B has been the best foil/co-host with Mike so far.

I thought she was pretty good when she was on last week. If there has to be a permanent choice, she wouldn't be that bad.

I'm glad Francessa knew that J.D Drew would never get a big hit in Boston. I love the way he harped on it for weeks at a time. Bashing Theo because of the "clutch" factor. Simply, according to him JD would never hit the yankees or do anything in the big spot. Now he's implying the mets should trade Wright because he's not clutch. What a joke. I wish I could get through.

I'm so surprised no one has come on here to give props to Francessa for his open. He was so complimentary to the Sox, saying that they are now what the Yankees used to be. I am listening on line; it must be strange for YES viewers to see/hear this on YES.

Now, as for the post above, no one has called him on his earlier remarks about Drew. Today, he has nothing but nice things to say.

He is convinced, by the way, that something is wrong with Beckett, but not the oblique, because of the way Francona denied the SI story. But it seems to me that Francona's denial could simply be that B. has a strain, not a tear. Anyway, we will see.

I think Francesca gets short shrift around here. He's plenty hard on the Yankees from time to time, and plenty respectful of the Red Sox -- when he's not tweaking people. He generally seems pretty reasonable and informed to me. Not always, but he's pretty good.

Kim Jones completely rocks. Ditch Carlin, who's awful, and just give Kim Jones the slot. She's great.

YO!
Fat Mikes' show today was AWESOME. He gave respectful props to the Sox as I have never heard him do before. Re-played some of the crucial moments of last night-even had Maddon's press conference and commented afterward that Maddon is choosing to ignore any possible negativity about his club's performance and play up (totally) all the "positive" aspects of the Rays. Also said that even though many thought Beckett was injured..why would the Sox (who know more and have access to doctor's analysis) throw him out there again in such a crucial game. Claims that this throws a cloak of "suspense" over Saturdays' game. Looks like Aura & Mystiue have been invoked.

"The Red Sox are the best team in baseball right now"

How far the mighty have fallen. Fat Mike with all his pomposity and arrogance. AWESOME, just AWESOME.

Yes, Mike's a blowhard but right now he is hammering TBS on his NFL Now show for the technical problems last night and he is 100% right. He's calling TBS a rinky dink operation that should not have MLB Baseball ever again. I totally agree. There's no excuse for what happened last night. Sometimes he is right on.

He was good this morning. Praised the Sox mightily. I like him better on Sundays, then during the week.

someone stole my XM this weekend, so I'm forced back to regular radio until the new one shows up. I tried to listen to Mike yesterday and it was BRUTAL. Long pauses, him talking to himself about nothing that interested anybody but him....it was god-awful.

He's really bad on his own with the exception of interviews. It's just kind of dull.

To his credit either he, WFAN or both understands he needs a sidekick, but they need to get on that soon. I hope to God it's just him holding down the fort for a couple of weeks while the lawyers sketch out a contract for Kim Jones.

Neil Best, who scooped everyone on the MMD breakup, says it's Benigno. I hope to God it's not. I like Benigno, but it just would feel like a poor version of MMD. Kim brings something different.

Mike actually got Benigno his job at WFAN. I don't like the idea, Benigno cowtows to Mike too easily. Kim doesn't.

Oh God, someone put him out of his misery. Kim, come baaaack.
I know. Just get anybody in there with him now, honestly. This is just awful.

Kim would be my first choice, too. Joe can anchor his own gig more successfully and grooming Kim for the future makes more sense. I dunno. Anything but this.

Why did they not give Malusis a shot? Is he too close to Russo? I think The Moose would have been excellent.

Mike is totally convinced that Sabathia is going to be a Yankee that he is saying that no one should even bid for him. He thinks it will be a $180-$200 million contract. He also says he heard that the Dodgers are looking to unload contracts to make room for Manny.

I see his point, although if he's so convinced (and IMO he's right) then every team should bid. If Sabathia to the Yankees is a fait accompli, it's clearly in the Sox' interest and in other teams' interests that the Yankees end up giving out Manny or even A-Rod money to Sabathia. That at least hamstrings them a little bit for Teixiera, and might mean they try and scrimp on getting bench and relief help.

For their souls? Did he check with their metaphysical coach on that?

"Huuuuge huuuuuge impact for the Jets's souls. They'll be feeling like a team of solipsists if they can finally beat the Patriots."

I had a chance in the car today to listen to both Fatty and Dog.

Jets/Pats game was a big topic. Similar takes in some ways.

These two really, really miss each other, whether they would ever admit it or not. The sum is greater than the two parts in this instance.

Kind of sad, really.
