I don't get the Ordway hate,  when he's good he's really good it's just that he got so convinced that what he was doing was better than everyone else he refused to change.  I think this is a good thing.

It's not Ordway hate, at least not as far as I'm concerned.  It's more Ordway fatigue.  The guy was around forever and I'd have rather seen new blood given a chance (Giardi, for example).

Seriously, if you look at WEEI's line up five years ago and look at it now, what's really changed?  It's still D&C, Dale & Holley, Ordway, and Mikey Adams.  They took a super circuitous route to come back to the same point, with the only significant difference being the order of the shows.  If they'd just stuck Merloni on the Big Show in the first place, think of all the time and energy that could have been saved.  While Minihane as breathed new life into the morning show, the other new faces in all this, Fauria and Thornton, aren't all that interesting and don't add a lot.  It's no wonder they're not gaining any ground on the other station.

As long as he keeps Smerlas off the air, and the idiotic recurring callers away, it's fine with me.
They really need to develop some bench talent though.

Ordway has an opportunity to do something fresh. The big question is whether he's going to see this as that kind of opportunity, or whether he's just going to see it as validation of his old ways and sink right back into the same chair with the schtick and the same tired formula.

At this point, midday can't get WORSE, so, really, what's the harm of bringing him back, but it's not like Ordway doesn't know how to do radio. He can facilitate a conversation, he's got a couple of decent "experts" to work with who at least have intimate knowledge of the two biggest local franchises, and he should have a good network of guests he can call upon.

If I were program manager, I'd put a moratorium on listener calls. Take away that crutch, and I think Ordway comes up with some decent shit. But if he's allowed to trot Frank from Gloucester back out there, we're going to have some particularly brutal radio.

I look at it like this. If WEEI is going to hire a retread I'd rather they hire someone who has had success like Ordway instead of a failure like Tanguay.

I can see that but the one thing Ordway was able to do and can do well is mentor some of the younger talent.  He still brings an air of credibility in the market and he's not going to destroy some guys career due to inexperience or stupidity like Tanguay might.

I don't understand... why waste all that time with Dickerson and Girardi and Tanguay and Picard, and not ONCE bring in Ordway to see how he'd fit with Merloni and Fauria, when apparently it was Ordway they wanted all along? Why not just bring Ordway in sooner or at least announce it sooner?
I really liked Dickerson with Merloni and Fauria, but beyond my personal disappointment that he won't be getting the gig, I'm just confused as to why WEEI would waste everyone's time without even testing how Ordway would be with the other two guys.

I assume the calendar reading 8/31 today has something to do with Ordway now being announced as some other contract expired.

What else were dickerson, Tanguay and Picard doing that they couldn't use another paycheck from another shift. I left Girardi out since I think he's a step above them.

This wasn't an audition, it was fill in hosts, who probably got paid garbage for it biding time until 9/1.

Who's time are they wasting?

Ordway doesn't start until next Tuesday, fill ins until then.
I'm no huge fan of Ordway but as long as I don't have to hear Tanguay I'm fine.

Dickerson, Picard, Tanguay, Girardi, Merloni and Fauria all at one point in the last month made mention to people filling in and "auditioning" for the gig. As a listener I assumed that was the case, and Tanguay in particular seems especially mopey that he didn't get the job so it makes me think he's at least one of the "candidates" who were really hoping to get the job. All I'm saying is if they were just going to get Ordway all along, why not just say so?

Merloni has been doing pbp tonight - not just color.  To call it a work in progress would be putting it kindly, but it's obviously really hard to learn on the fly and very rare for an ex-athlete.  Seems like a signal they are trying him out, though since Joe Castig is probably nearing the end of his run.
