So obviously the lack of a competent (or committed) striker is a key factor here...I guess I had discounted the importance of pressing to relive pressure/force turnovers. I feel like Hazard and Willian could do that (Pulisic too?), I guess I suspect Kante should be able too as well, but maybe that's not enough. Well, clearly it's not.

Of the available options, Pedro probably best fits the bill of 'pressing wing pest'.

I don't think they made a ton of changes in January because everyone knows the players will be here far longer than the manager and his system. No sense in overhauling everything when you'll get a clean slate in 18 months.

For all the doom and gloom, Chelsea in the finals of the League Cup, progressing well as the current holders of the FA Cup, and in to the knockout stages of the Europa League. A fourth place finish and maybe nicking one of those three trophies ain't a bad season (from my view at least).

And if they don't manage any of that, we'll see what Lampard (or Terry, or Zola- one of them is getting a shot soon I'm sure) can do with the team next year. I think the Hudson-Odoi saga has opened the eyes of the string pullers at Cobham- I wouldn't be surprised to see some more Academy types get a run out. What's the use of having the best youth setup in the country if you aren't going to use it?
