I f'in hate having to root for Michael Bennett. And if it's at the expense of Trey Flowers, it's throw up worthy. Price is nice though.

He still jumps offside a shit-ton. Wonder how BB will approach it.
He only had two last year and 5 penalties in total. Two roughing the QB, though.

Edit - Two other offsides declined, so four total.

Bennett was called for the following in 2018: Defensive Offside (3), Roughing the Passer (2), Unnecessary Roughness (1), Neutral Zone Infraction (1)
Flowers had: Defensive Offside (3), Roughing the Passer (1), Defensive Holding (1)

Don't see a big difference to be worried about anything.

There is no reason to consider the two related. Flowers is almost certainly gone because of what he costs and that decision was made based on how Belichick values Flowers, and the DE position more generally. Bennett is a decision you make after you've decided that you aren't going to pay Flowers.

Well good then. I think he had 10 in 2017.

Again, I disagree with the second part because you can just cut Clayborn (who stinks), and have massive upgrade for 3 million.

Ok, but you need depth there and Clayborn is decent depth at the position. I thought he was better in limited usage near the end of the season.

Quick Edit: woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo and shout out to @Super Nomario because once again BB trades a 5th.

Michael Bennett is misunderstood and it's his fault in some cases but he is a very good human being. He means well and his heart is in the right place. I am stoked to be able to root for him.

i absolutely love this move. Worst case is it’s Flowers insurance, best case is they bring both of them back.

I was literally about to post, "naw, Marty seems really happy in retirement. I don't see this as changing his mind."
I'm really glad I was wrong. Martellus' brief stint with the Pats was pretty amazing, and I'd be stoked to have him and Gronk together.

Why? Can you elaborate? He certainly lost it at the end of the SB against the Pats, but other than that what's the issue?
Wasn't he the guy who falsified an account of police brutality and then got exposed by the video? Or was that someone else?

Also, I don't care, as long as he sacks quarterbacks.

Bennetts & McCourtys thing must happen. If Marty B. is healthy after taking a year off, this may be one of the better start to the offseason in the storied BB era (nothing tops his first wave of 2001 players nor the surreal Revis signing, however.)

Curran pissing in the punch bowl.

"My favorite Michael Bennett play was watching Gronk beat the shit out of him at the end of SB49 after Bennett’s scumbag dirty play. Tough guy to like."

Is this maybe similar to how people felt about Rodney? Hate him as an opponent, but take him in as your own and cheer him on when he plays for your team. He still has a motor. And if he brings his brother along, then even better.

Bennett is one of those players who you like if he's on your team and you hate him if he's not.

The Bennett bros E:60 was great. It will be even better when it airs a bunch of times between the BB Invitational and the Super Bowl.

The thing about accusing police of being racist is...well.

With respect to the Super Bowl thing, it's not a great look but according to this article nobody was injured: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2018/04/11/michael-bennett-philadelphia-eagles-indictment/507435002/

I don't think the Las Vegas situation is as clear-cut as that article you linked makes it.

Regardless obviously you are free to dislike the guy, but those are pretty marginal offenses as far as NFL players go.

Absolutely.

The venom directed at San Diego Rodney was off the charts. It began with “expletive dirty player” and escalated from there.

But there was recognition here of his value the second we got him. Then the love fest began.

This stuff is as old as the hills. I was 5 yrs old and it was going on with Pete Rose.

I agree. The video that the police released makes a big jump. Here he is in the casino > Jump > here he is outside the casino on the ground. See? Everything was on the up-and-up.

I assume it was a situation where everyone involved was scared and making quick decisions with their adrenalin pumping. I think the cops have a tough job, but that video doesn't disprove that the first cop o pit him on the ground didn't pull his gun and threaten him.

I like everything about this move. Very livable cost, and he could either be a great addition to a DL that still includes Flowers, or very solid insurance if Flowers leaves. As far as being able to root for him, think Ken Linseman and Chris Nilan. And as mentioned, Rodney. High motor, big personality, good kind of nasty to his game. If he produces, I suspect he quickly becomes a fan favorite.

So tell us what you know . . ?
Oh I don't know much. I just believe that he genuinely cares about the underprivileged and social injustices in our country. He proves it by donating pay to charities and running The Michael Bennett Foundation that helps childhood obesity. I met him a few times in his Seattle days and he was very good to my staff. There is no doubt the Bennett Bros. are wired a bit differently but below the weirdness is genuine good stuff.

As a guy that watched every Eagles game last season, I’m a Michael Bennett fan. He’s still disruptive as all hell. The Eagles rotated DL quite a bit and MB played a lot of snaps inside. I’m not looking it up but it seemed like a lot.

All of that said, I didn’t love the off the field MB, which admittedly you never know the full story on. He never seemed like a team-centered kind of guy. I may be projecting, but I felt this way prior to any rumbling about him being gone.

As for his salary, he apparently said this on NFL Network this morn “I’m not willing to take a pay cut. I actually want a pay raise at this point. I just know at this point whatever team I go to I want to get paid more than what I am getting paid right now”.

All in all, seems like a solid move by the Pats and maybe Philly, too.

I think the quote about wanting a raise was a joking response to a question about taking a pay cut and not necessarily a real sentiment.

Interesting. I am not a fan of athlete's foundations. Most of the ones I have studied are good at self dealing. I can't find any stats on Bennett's foundation. A 990 should be easy to find

Their 2016 990 is on charitywatch. They seem legit. 380k in donations, 167k funded programs they ran, 84k donated to other orgs, only 27k spent on employee salary.

I look forward to this thread being bumped after Bennett is cut after the 2nd preseason game.

I kid. I hope.

I like the trade.

Big fan of charity. Would like to know what organization(s) got the cash.

This is what I was looking for and couldn't find. Could you post or send me a link? I've seen so many bad athlete foundations finances it's always a good feeling when I see a good one.
