My favorite theory right now--which I made up myself--is that LeBron is ice cold and is still planning on Cleveland but is going to screw Houston and Bosh in the process in order to put one less great team between him and a title.

hah, i love that theory! Don't think it's actually true -- there's still time for Hou/Bosh to get it done, but a pretty rich thought all the same.

Somewhere
One of my favorite anecdotes about the Miami Heat.

When I left Detroit to play for the Heat, I rented a house on Star Island in Miami Beach, across from Rony Seikaly. He was living in the house that Shaq later paid $19 million for; Rony built it for $2.5 million. Anyway, my house got robbed, and he let me, my daughter, and my wife move into his place for a week. Seikaly was one of my guys. He knew I wasn't there to take his job; I was there to play power forward. One day, he says to me, "Hey, man, how do you play all the way into June?" Remember, I'd been with the Pistons for six seasons and made the playoffs every year. I say, "What'd you say?" He goes, "The playoffs, third round, you guys play all the way to, like, June 28."
"Uh, that's what you do when you win a championship," I say.
"But you only get paid from November to April. That's taking too much of the summer, man. This is ridiculous."
I say: "Well, playing for a championship is about pride. It's not about money."
He says: "It has to be, because this is some bullshit. You guys play an extra two months."
And I was like, holy shit. I didn't even realize it. I was playing an extra two-and-a-half months, for free.

Wade is going to sign a 4 year deal worth a lot of money. I think he will be alright

Maybe the return to Cleveland was all part of James" original "pact" with Wade to come to Miami?

Same here. My respect for him has probably quadrupled. The letter was great and showed a surprising level of maturity and forethought (thought that could be Lee Jenkin's work). Weirdly elated by this and I am a Celtics fan.

I too gained an enormous amount of respect from LeBron James. It'll be fun to be able to root for one of the greatest players I have ever seen for once. The NBA playoffs are going to be fun to watch.

Gunga Dinhorst

I was just watched The Herd on DVR. During the third hour Windhorst was on with Colin and said that he had been going back-and-forth all week re: the LeBron situation. He finished by stating that he was 50-75% sure that James was going to stay in Miami on a short deal. He also said that he (Windhorst) had had a falling out with Dan Gilbert (in addition to obviously being out of the loop with LeBron's camp re: Decision II.) Windhorst had literally just left the set when the news broke while Cowherd was interviewing Mike Dunleavy.

If Wade's contract is anywhere near that, Miami is screwed for the next 10 years.

Guess Bosh couldn't turn down the extra 30 mill + no income tax. Don't spend it all in one place.

Melo, Bosh and Wade in Miami wouldn't be the worst thing for them, obviously.

I don't think they can do Melo without reneging on McRoberts.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but with James signing with Heat, doesn't that mean that Heat no longer have MLE to offer McRoberts?

I did read somewhere over the last few days that TX as Bosh's home state is actually a disincentive for Bosh, as he has some family he'd rather be distant from. No idea on details or truth of that, so...fwiw.

Who the hell would turn down an extra guaranteed 30 million to chase a championship in Houston, when you can at least still be competitive in Miami since you're still in the East?

I'm tired of this narrative that these guys should be giving up all these crazy sums of money at the chance at a title.

The schadenfruede is delicious.  Enjoy watching Wade limp around trying to catch Wall so he can throw an elbow in his nuts and then sit for three games.

Also, the letter, no matter how calculated, is amazing.  Good for Cleveland!  I really hope they win one.  Great day!

They're in the conversation however. I agree they're not better than those teams, but they're not worse other than the Spurs however.

Howard-Bosh-Parsons-Harden-anybody is better than OKC. No worse than LAC. Much, much better than a puncher's chance against San Antonio.

The idea that they would not be competing for championships is fucking insane.

Why wouldn't Melo consider Miami now?  Simmons was on Le Batard and he thought he might given the better roster than the Knicks have as well as the tax advantage in Florida.  There are also reports that Wade will be very flexible with the Heat in order to make something happen.  I don't think Melo to South Beach is so crazy.

Agreed.  But that isn't happening now and the Rockets have more questions than answers.

Bosh has two championship rings already.  I don't think he gives two shits about chasing more rings while having to play 3rd banana AGAIN behind Howard and Harden.

There are also $30M reasons why Bosh is incentivized to stay in Miami and with Wade declining, he has the chance to be the face of the franchise.  Also, the Eastern Conference sucks ass so he's guaranteed to make the playoffs every year regardless of whether or not LBJ is on his team.

Good job completely changing the point of your post. You said that the Rockets with Bosh wouldn't have been a title contender. That claim, as others have pointed out, is ludicrous.

I am allowed to respond to different posts on different subjects correct?

If you want to go back to my original post, then I still believe that OKC, SA and LAC would be favored over a HOU team with Bosh and friends.

Harden's offensive stats mask his defensive deficiencies and he couldn't lead his team to a ring despite playing with KD, Westbrook and Ibaka.  Don't even get me started on Howard who can't play in close games because he can't hit FTs to save his life and can't score in the paint if it's not a dunk.  The NBA isn't a video game where the best players automatically win you a championship (see this years Finals as an example).

Melo going to Miami seems crazy.

Melo stands to lose A LOT and gain very little by signing within them. If he goes down there, every thing he does will be put under a microscope, and when they inevitably fall short, the media will lambaste him for not being 'Lebron'. He's better off going to Chicago, or resigning in NY and trusting in Phil. Personally, if Melo doesn't care about that 5th year, which is a huge stretch, Chicago is the obvious destination.

They're a couple players away from being a true contender. Not big pieces, but a couple role players in addition to Melo. Take advantage of whatever growing pains the Cavs might have in the next year or two, and hope for the best. NY won't be competitive for a while, and considering the fact that they will be competing with the Lakers for the same prime free agents in the next couple years, their is absolutely no guarantee Phil will be able to pull enough bull shit out of his ass to convince Love/Durant/Westbrook etc. to head east.

Man I hate Hardens game but Howard, Bosh, Parsons and Harden would be my title pick (I love McHale but they need a better coach).

San Antonio crushed Miami but it is causing people to overrate them going forward. They didn't exactly waltz through the playoffs

Well, CLE, but that ship has sailed as far as Bosh is concerned. Although a S&T of Bosh for Cleveland's non-Wiggins detritus would be cold as fuck.

Yeah, I would have loved that Rockets team, and while one can disagree on how much of a contender they would have been, the idea that they wouldn't have been one is silly.

I just heard Brian Windhorst (for whom I feel super sorry -- he's really not bad even if he got scooped as hell) mention the possibility of the Rockets using the money on Bledsoe. It sounds weird on the surface, but I love Bledsoe's game and he's a defensive demon capable of guarding taller 2 guards. I'm not sure how much one can justify paying a 3rd guard/6th man....but I'd sure rather spend that money on Bledsoe than on Deng or Aziza. And if the Rockets don't sign someone in the 48 hours, then might they not figure that they also need not bother on Parsons?

Probably lame to panic and sign Bledsoe, but he might present some intriguing small ball match-up possibilities, too. Dunno...anyway, rough day for Morey. Must have gone from thinking he had a championship contender to...."shit, am I really going to overpay for Parsons and still be no better than last year?" ....in the course of a few hours.

Morey probably takes a what-the-heck run at Melo now doesn't he?  It's kind of an odd basketball fit, but I'd at least call and see.

No, I think the idea was to make sure they always have at least two of Bledsoe/Dragic/Thomas available:

  • Suns record with Dragic and Bledsoe both healthy and starting: 23-11
  • Suns record with one of them out of the lineup due to injury: 25-23

I think Bledsoe would be a very good signing for Houston. There are tons of good PGs that you have to defend in the WC. Problem is that if they match Parsons' offer sheet, I don't think that they could put together an offer sheet for Bledsoe that Phoenix wouldn't match.
I'd imagine Phoenix with Bledsoe is similar to Hayward in Utah where the CBA max makes it impossible to pry him away. There is still the Dragic trade talk out there too.....I'm guessing the Suns know Bledsoe isn't going anywhere.
