I question Martino’s reporting of 5/75, would like to see that reported by a second source.

This rotation sure is going to be something. Probably not something good. But it will exist.

David Peterson's gotta be wondering whose kid he denied an autograph at this point. I wonder what the Mets would want for him.

Their rotation should be better with Scherzer/Verlander/Senga/Quintana/Carrasco
So the Mets added:

Verlander (2/86)
Senga (5/75)
Quintana (2/26)

$71M for the three in 2023.

To replace:

deGrom (5/185)
Bassitt (unsigned)
Walker (4/72)

$55M for the two in 2023 plus Bassitt.

Scherzer: 3/$130
Diaz: 5/$102
Verlander: 2/$86.7
Marte: 4/$78
Senga: 5/$75
Quintana: 2/$26
Escobar: 2/$20
Robertson: 1/$10
Ottavino: 1/$4
Shreve: 1/$1.5
Jankowski: 1/$1.3

So we complain when they underbid and complain when they pay to make sure they get who they want?
Underbidding for a homegrown player who played on two Red Sox World Series winning teams vs. paying to make sure they get who they want (aka = overpaying) for a player who has not played a single inning of Major League Baseball are two vastly different things.

You're probably right. This takes all the emotion out of it and makes it strictly a business deal. Some people, myself included, are good with that. Others, not so much.

I bet Senga did take less than was offered elsewhere, it has to be tantalizing for a righty SP trying to prove himself in MLB to get to be teammates with both Verlander and Scherzer. That and the three year optout and this makes more sense to me.

To be fair, Queens is closer to Japan than Boston.

Just wait until the run on players from England starts.
