Between here and everywhere.
Anything better than a 4th will be worth is for the cap space.

I liked Darth Quaider, but he was redundant on this team with Miller, and he made more money than he was worth.

I am filled to the brim with joy. Logjam partially alleviated, Kampfer can comfortably sit on the 9th floor as #8 D (or get waived)... if he stays, I'm guessing the tweets Kampfer sent out in 2012 after being traded to Minnesota for Greg Zanon are going to come back to light, as he seemed to be rooting against the Bruins in the Caps series.

And a 7th.

The game has moved past his skill set, but McQuaid was awesome in 2011. One tough hombre indeed.

Yeah as others have said, I'm a big fan of McQuaid, just not on my team in 2018.

Kampfer is on a two-way deal, which is great

Well, there goes my plan to make people here cheer for the Bruins...

Really though, it had to happen. McQuaid can finish his career teaching the kids that’ll play for the Rangers and “keeping them safe” and the Bruins get a little cap relief.

Leaves the B’s with ~$5 million in cap space and it replenishes the 4th and 7th round picks they had previously traded (Wingels and Nash...wonder if the 7th is the Bruins 7th).

Good for Quaider. I managed to have a few conversations with him back in his baby B days and he was by far one of the nicest, most down to earth guys to come through there. He's always been a favorite of mine, but he was redundant on this team and someone had to go. I think there was a slight possibility that if Sweeney let this play out that another team would run into some injury issues and pay a little more. The timing works best for McQuaid to get into camp with someone and establish his role, so I think this was a player friendly move for a guy that was as loyal as they come.

Absolutely stunned the Bruins were able to find a taker for McQuaid and to get a 4th and a 7th rounder back to is even better

This is pretty much where I'm at, too. He was a combination of hard to watch at times, but always easy to cheer for, as everything I have ever seen of him made me feel like he is a good dude, and a really, really good teammate. He's also as tough as they come. I couldn't believe how quick he came back after he took a skate to the neck a few years ago, for instance.

It needed to happen. I wish he had gone to a team I like more than the Rangers, so that I could kind of keep cheering for him, but I think the cap space and picks are absolutely worth it.

Sorry to see him go, I always liked having the guy on our team. Seeing him laugh at Erhoff was one of the great moments from the Canucks series (and as posted above, seeing him pummel Torres in a different uni makes for great viewing as well)

McQuaid was tough as nails and a really great guy in the room and in the community. The league is going away from his skill set and they have guys that are faster and more skilled that can do his job so it’s a good move. I’ll always be a fan of his after the way he played in the ‘11 and ‘13 playoffs. Here’s to a great rest of your career Quaider, and I hope to see you at some alumni events a decade from now.

"Hard to watch at times but always easy to cheer for" is a perfect description. And its not one that fits a lot of players. Good move for him. Good move for the Bruins.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised they got two picks back. Getting a 4th is a boon.

Amen to that. I loved his crazy eyes when fighting, and dude was a tough as they come. The NHL has moved away from his skill set, but he was great to root for and I wish him the best in NY.

Kampfer will likely get waived and assume the vacated Tommy Cross roll down in Providence. Break-glass in case of emergency guy for the big club, but Providence’s D is largely first or second year guys (Vaal, Zboril, Johansson, Lauzon, Sherman, Clifton) so a vet to help them along was needed.

He was one tough hombre and had his teammates backs. He was a good Bruin and I'll miss him. I hope we leverage the additional cap space at some point for an impact add to the team.

As an aside, man that 2013 team was awesome. I'm not sure my sports fandom will ever get over the last minute of Game 6. NHL fans deserved a game 7 in that series.

Looking at Kampfer's numbers the last 3 seasons, he's been a complete disaster. I'd think UV/Zboril/Lauzon/Cliffton would all be ahead of him in the pecking order. Seems like a small salary dump from the Rangers

Yeah, he sucks. The Rangers probably just wanted the deal to be contract neutral. Kampfer makes some sense for the Bruins as a righty vet in Providence, but I’d agree that he is behind the kids on the depth chart.

Thanks, Adam, you always played full-out, you always worked to improve, and you always protected your teammates.

I am a wee bit nervous about having 7 instead of 8 NHL-ready D men (injuries and all) but I’m delighted to clear some cap space. Sweeney can watch the team for a couple of months, decide what he needs, and go out and get a couple of useful pieces.

I will miss McQuaid. He was a great role player and great person and I wish him nothing but the best.

Fun note: Kampfer was 4 games short of getting ON the cup in 2011. The B's petitioned for 2 people to be put on the cup despite missing requirements. Savard was added. Kampfer was not.

McQuaid wasn't a great player by any means, and his extension was an overpay. But he did fill a role, and was part of the team's resurgence from the depths of the mid-2000's.

Kampfer is someone they can easily stash in Providence as a "break glass in emergency" type player, so as bad as he's been, he does have value that way. There may be situations where they don't want to call up one of the kids in the event, say, that Miller gets suspended for a game or two.

It also appears that Sweeney was determined to not repeat the mistake that Chiarelli made when he traded Boychuk on the eve of the season opener. The team has plenty of time to adjust to any locker room impact.
