Mazz is basically the broadcast equivalent of hiring Valentine to manage: something you knew was a terrible idea the moment it happened, somehow managed to exceed your worst expectations, and is something you pray is over after one year.

Guessing he is in the same category. Too much travel, doesn’t need the money. You need a Middlebrooks type, who made good but not great money, and has a wife who works on the road, too.
Make them a package deal. (though not ideal if they have kids).

They do have kids, which is probably why Middlebrooks is a part-time studio guy rather than a candidate for a regular booth gig. Also pretty sure the Dell-Middlebrooks family is not based in the northeast, which means he's commuting even to do his part-time gig.

I agree with Lose that the ideal full time candidate is a middle of the road former MLBer like Middlebrooks, even if it isn't necessarily him.

I remember one time when Mike Lowell came up to visit the booth when Remy was still around. Either Remy or Orsillo asked if he would have any interest in broadcasting, and Lowell responded with a chuckle, and dismissively (for Remy's taste) doubted he would be willing to settle for the short money usually involved. During the break between innings, after they had bid Lowell farewell, Remy didn't know he still had a hot mic, and he turned to Orsillo and said something like, "Typical...just another arrogant athlete."

Most of today's players, if they lasted a few seasons and got past working for the minimums, don't need the money. You're left with guys like Middlebrooks who were out of the league before they were able to cash in via free agency. If you played in Remy's era, you probably still want/need some income, even if you had a decent career.

Remy says that and the fans are on his side, because we knew he loved the game, the team, and being part of the experience for the fanbase

Now, if Mazz were to say that ...

I’d love if NESN gave BROCK HOLT a tryout. He seems like he’d fit right in. Smart. Well spoken. Humorous. Everyone loves him.

I know it’s not NESN but it belongs. This loser just said on radio that the fans no longer care about winning. Not only is his voice annoying but he’s tone deaf

Just listening to Eck and Youk analyze the strike zone and talk about pitching and hitting tonight makes me never want to hear Mazz call another game.

I turned on the game today reluctantly because of how this season has gone, but rationalized that there was not much baseball left so I should enjoy it while I can.

Then I heard O'brien and Massarotti.

They are unlistenable. It's a terrible broadcast. There is not much to say besides that. The scary part is that broadcasting is allegedly a strength of the ownership group, yet they continue to make baffling choices and nickel and dime proven, beloved talent. I hope they realize that this part of the product needs an upgrade, or at the very least an addition by subtraction of Massarotti.

Hey, Mazz gave us all the insight that TC can it out to the opposite field... right after he did it. That's quality analysis, right there.

Eck elevates Youk. IMO Youk minus Eck isn't something I'd care to listen to long term though there is certainly room to grow.
I disagree. Youkilis teaches me a lot about hitting, the strategy, etc. Now, maybe he's wrong, I wouldn't know. But he seems to know as much about that as Eck does about pitching.

It's funny and ironic since Lowell is now an analyst albeit albeit in a part time role at MLB Network.

Mazz was talking about Eck’s farewell today and he said NESN hasn’t told him anything about their plan for the booth next year or if there will be a permanent commentator.
