so this goes the distance so not to bury the ufc and floyd wins on a decision by running around the whole fight and landing a handful of punches, and the world cries sham but spends the money regardless. right?

For once, you know what I'd like, after the fight, I want them both to still be hating on each other. I don't want to see them hug and kiss and lick each others arses and pay their respects, now it's all over and the money's in the bank. Cos I've watched these press conferences and I know, we all know they're selling tickets. But I hope they really do mean some of what they say. I know it's theatre but they're saying some nasty, personal shit to each other...and it would make a nice change if there really was some enmity, so when folks feel cheated after watching a fairly average fight, where the favourite comes out comfortably on top and you're wondering if you shoulda kept your money and maybe found a stream online, at least there's the consolation that they really don't like each other and at least that part of it was real.

I watched some of Connor's fights last night, and Jesus fuckin Christ, he's not gonna get near Mayweather. I mean what's the game plan? Rough him up on the inside? Hope to catch him with a sweet left? The dude fights in bare feet with eensy wee gloves...I don't fuckin know...I keep hearing John Lydon's voice in ma head going "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Years ago i watched a British heavyweight title fight between a couple of old stagers, and one of them got a wee cut above the eye and the other fighter, being an old stager, got him in the next couple of rounds, not with a punch mind...he ran the laces of his gloves over the cut when they were in a clinch and the slow motion picked it up and you saw this cut burst open, and that was basically the fight. And the experts in the booth were like, sure it was nasty, but it was also smart, cos the fighter made it look like he was trying to free his glove from the clinch but really he was trying to get in about the cut with the laces, and it worked like a charm, and that's a savvy fighter who knows his tools and knows what you can get away with in the ring.

Connor, as game as he is hasn't even got any of those moves in his locker. I mean he hasn't has he. How's his head butt game, does he bite, what about a stamp...is he practicing this in training. I semi jest, but...

This is a great point. I'm sure there's all sorts of dirty pool in UFC, especially in clinches or mounts, but there's no way he knows how to do dirt in a boxing match. Watch a guy like Hopkins or Floyd fight on the inside. Shit, watch Ward TKO Kovalev. Hopkins, Mayweather, those guys will clinch you, see the ref on the right side and use their left to punch your balls. Or not even your balls, your hip flexors. Shit you wouldn't even think of, but after 6 rounds, your lateral movement is shot.

One of my first sparring sessions was against this middling middlewieght pro. I think he was ranked 15th in the world maybe at some point. Had some fights on ESPN. Solid but unspectacular. Anyways, at some point, we clinch, and I feel him put his hand on my stomach, next thing I know I'm out of breath completely. We break and I'm straight winded. After we finished, I asked him what he'd done and he said he'd put his fist on my diaphragm and every time he heard me exhale he'd pushed it in deeper so when I went to breath next I could only fill my lungs halfway, then a quarter, then an eighth....

Shit like that takes its toll, and if you don't have the right temperament, knocks you right out of your game plan.

Dumb dumb question. Is there some kind of mixed rule fight that would get this to be a fair fight? What do you guys think? Like if you could use your legs but not grapple or something? Lighter gloves? I realize I don't know what I'm talking about, just curious to hear from those that do.

This is very interesting especially the hand on your stomach tactic....thanks for the insight.

I think the social media nonsense around this fight makes the $99 completely worth it. I am a little ashamed of how wildly entertained I am by the whole thing, but McGreggor is incredible at this shit.

So CJ Watson was fooling around with Money's wife? Allegedly. That is some world class trolling there by Conor.

Yeah it's pretty common knowledge. Floyd's baby mama was dating CJ and one thing leads to another and he's beating the sht out her in front of his kids. It's the assault that got him 6 months after the Cotto fight.

I hope this becomes more widely known. Floyd really is a total shitstain of a human being. Beat up the woman in front of her kids, then threatened to beat the kids if they called the police.

So I'm hearing on some sports talk shows that this will be the biggest fight ever by revenue. Fighters will be taking home huge paydays.

I can't even imagine how big a rematch would be if Mayweather loses the first fight.

I know Mayweather loves his record - after all, he's applied for 5 trademarks for "50-0" - but any chance he likes the money more than that?
There's no way he gives up 50-0. If you want to go all conspiracy theoty, they can get a huge pay day just by stringing this first fight out to a late stoppage or decision. McGregor's not supposed to be able to do that.

Question and sorry if this has been covered, is this available via stream? Trying to put a boys night together for it and the guy offering to host has a barn that would suit us perfectly but he has no cable, only internet for his tv in there. Looking for a workaround. Not worried about any kind of illegal feed as we will probably have 20 guys and $5/man isn't sweating anyone. We just want to watch it.

Nothing I've seen, and I wouldn't hold out much hope for a paid US stream. Showtime has PPV rights, and like HBO, they've previously shown an obstinate refusal to accommodate cord-cutters. Some would consider it an invitation to find alternative means.

The GGG-Canelo fight will be available to stream through RingTV.

Well this would be a bit unique: the Mendon Twin Drive-in is going to be showing the fight. $30pp, so no gaming it by stuffing a car full.

So Mayweather and McGregor both want 8 oz gloves instead of the normal 10oz weight that is normally done at their fight weight.

Does this help them both?

No way is there a rematch. If Connor somehow wins it will be because Mayweather is suddenly "old" or the public will see through the sham. If Mayweather wins as expected it is because he is fighting someone that isn't a boxer.

Unless Mayweather wants to get into the Octagon, which there is 0% chance of, there is no rematch.

See if I was booking this fight, I would have Mayweather win, but it goes the distance and is closer than people expected. Connor claims that if they fought using his rules it would be a different results. So MMA rematch for big money once again. The public would eat it up

Maybe I need to stop looking at things through a WWE lens...

No one has ever gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. From the pundits I have heard randomly on the radio, they seem to think that if Mayweather loses, the rematch will be bigger than the original.

Mayweather may like his 50-0 but he also likes his $100MM, $200MM, $300MM, or $400+MM checks, the latter of which he might get for a rematch.

There's also a lot of money on McGregor (https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/betting/big-floyd-mayweather-money-starts-to-show-for-megafight-with-conor-mcgregor/) so if Mayweather "allows" McGregor to win then it's going to be a significant event for some books.

Mayweather could knock out McGregor in the 1st round and McGregor can still rightfully claim it would be a different result in the Octagon. Don't think anything has to happen for their to be a potentially lucrative rematch in MMA except Mayweather would have to agree which I can't possibly see happening.
The reality is there are probably guys on the undercard that can beat McGregor handily just like if Mayweather dropped by an MMA gym he would be quickly tapped out by at least 1/2 the guys training.

The only way this isn't a complete farce is if it is staged as such.

On the undercard? There are amateurs who could beat McGregor.
I watched an all access epsiode and McGregor brought in Joe Cortez to try and get used to operating within the rules in the ring.

I don't know if people realize how much of a new world this is for McGregor. If Floyd is even half of what he was 2 years ago, this is going to be ugly.

So, uh, Paulie did get his ass kicked a bit after all. Though obviously it's easy to cull a few seconds from dozens of rounds of sparring.

From what I've heard, Connor pushed Paulie down, they took a photo and Paulie is livid and wants them to release the full video of the session.

Right. They released some footage favorable to Connor. It was definitely a knock down.

Can we stop with the MMA rematch nonsense.Mayweather might be killed inside of 10 seconds.
True, Mayweather would be like 100 to 1 dog. Connor is only 7 to 1 dog here which honestly is rare line gift, he should be 20 to 1, even at 40+ Mayweather won't allow any real punches to land, he is far too tactically sound. In the end I expect a McGregor DQ to try to save face in this "boxing match".

Maybe I caught the wrong video but the "knock down" I saw was clearly a push. Either way, I'm enjoying people raging on Twitter as Dana White and co put out 45 seconds of what was 2 sparring sessions to build some hype and the Connor heads took the bait.

The real videos people should be talking about are the media workout ones , particularly the shadow boxing one. I hope that was a gag to give Floyd some false confidence.

Also of note, because of the pristine way they handled an actual real boxer in their camp, Berto cancelled his plans to spar with McGregor. That is a lost opportunity as he is much more comparable to Floyd than Paulie

Absolutely right. I saw those this week and thought "this man is going to get killed."
