Call me crazy, but I'll take that, especially given the circumstances.Maye made plays, many more than the norm for a Patriots quarterback dating back to 2021, Mac Jones' rookie year.

Again, this isMaye's 11 plus plays (he got a half-point boost each for his touchdowns toKayshonBoutteandDemarioDouglas) were tied for the second-highest in a game since 2021 (Mac Jones had 12 in the 2023 season opener against the Eagles).

Jones did that on 60 dropbacks.

*good*.

Again, this looks good to me.By plus-play percentage, Maye's debut ranked 7th since 2021.JacobyBrissett'sperformance against the Bengals actually ranked at the top. The others were four from Jones' rookie season and 2022 against the Ravens.

Nope. What Bedard wrote:So according to Bedard,Maye's performance on Sunday was worse than Mac Jones against the Cowboys last yearwhere the team scored 3 points, Jones directly caused 2 defensive TDs and was eventually pulled out of the game because he was so bad.

No reason to trust anything Bedard says if he's throwing out proclamations like that.

He's only looking at minus plays here, not overall performance [which would take Maye's high number and percentage of plus plays into account], and he says that Mac in that Dallas game had a higher percentage of minus plays.Maye also had the most minus plays I've recorded since 2021 (extra half points for the first interception and the strip-sack fumble that didn't need to be taken). Jones (2021 Week 16 vs. Buffalo) and Brissett (49ers) were next with 14. Maye's minus play percentage (37.8%) was the highest since Jones last year against Dallas (45.8%) and New Orleans (38.5%).

Bedard also noted an objective measure:

That seems to line up with Bedard's more subjective assessment. I wonder if this post will lead to some criticism of how bad Expected Points Per Dropback is because it had Maye - who threw 2 picks and was strip sacked - rated about the same as Brissett.Maye's Expected Points Per Dropback of -0.22 ranked 23rd in Week 6 through Sunday, ahead of onlyDaniel Jones, Spencer RattlerandDakPrescott- but it was right in line with Brissett's -0.23 in his five starts.

Here are Bedard's QBs ratings for all the QB games this year:

- Houston (Maye): 11 plus, 17 minus, net -6, -13.3%
- Miami (Brissett): 5 plus, 13 minus, net -8, -19.5%
- San Francisco (Brissett): 4 plus, 14 minus, net -10, -23.8%
- NY Jets (Brissett): 1 plus, 5 minus, net -4, -14.8%
- NY Jets (Maye): 2 plus, 5 minus, net -3, -25.0%
- Seattle (Brissett): 6 plus, 5 minus, net +1, +3.0%
- Cincinatti (Brissett): 10 plus, 6 minus, net +4, +13.8%
