Bryce Miller is so nasty.

Could be this year's Spencer Strider.
I am so glad he is pitching well. Him and Emerson Hancock were an absolute pleasure to watch out here last year, and Taylor Dollard wasn't far behind (though I don't think his stuff is going to translate as well to MLB, but I'd love to be proven wrong).

I still hope Matt Brash gets another shot at starting someday, but it just doesn't seem like there is room in that rotation for it any time soon.

Brash can be that key high leverage reliever.

No doubt, and he is thriving there. I am partial to him being a starter because he is so fun to watch. My eyes might be shaded by the fact that he was the starter in the first no-hitter I got to be at in person, though.

The Pirates have lost seven in a row and have been outscored 44-9 in those games. But they’re still in first place, somehow.
We definitely played them at the wrong time, when their pitching was good and they had Oneil Cruz.

Clash of the AL East Titans in Baltimore this week. Best 2 records in the AL. 105-win pace O’s vs 130-win (!!) pace Rays. Rays have had a very soft schedule so far, but O’s has been just as soft. Rays are 7-3 against AL East, O’s are 4-5. O’s squeaking by with a relatively low run differential relative to their record.

KC (11-27, .289) is the second worst team in baseball, even tying the historically bad A's in the cellar for a moment last Saturday.

But over the last 10 games, the entire NL Central has been worse, collectively going 14-36 (.280). That's wild.

The Padres and Mets are 19-19 and 18-20 respectively, yet more evidence that wildly spending money is not as connected to building a successful team as so many observers still seen to believe.

Mission Viejo High School used to have a pretty good pitching staff. Former teammates Patrick Sandoval and Tanner Bibee are about to square off against each other as the Angels and Guardians play the Sunday morning game this week. Sandoval graduated in 2015 and Bibee in 2017.

Josh Naylor has hit a go-ahead home run in the 8th inning... just as he did last night... just as he did the night before.

He also already led the majors in go-ahead home runs in the 8th inning or later since 2021. I forget which day I saw the graphic, so I might be off, but I think that's his 9th while no one else has more than 6. I don't believe that covers game-tying home runs, so he only gets credit for one in the game against the White Sox last year when he hit a 9th inning grand slam to tie the game and an 11th inning 3-run homer to win it. I suspect this is the last time in a while we see anyone intentionally walked in the 8th inning to face Naylor.

Jesus Colorado’s Ryan Feltner has a skull fracture and concussion after taking a liner off the bat of Nick Castellanos last night.

The Rays bullpen has imploded the last two games and are doing everything they can to blow another lead today. Going to the bottom of the 9th with an 8-7 lead trying to hold on.

Mets lost this afternoon and split with NatsTown. The immortal Patrick Corbin picked up the win. Mets get Tampa next.
Starling Marte is turning into a pricier Aaron Hicks. Marte is one year older, both are signed through 2025, both have negative bWAR so far this year.

Jorge Mateo in April: .333/.377/.667, 1.044 OPS and 6 HRs in 69 ABs.

In May: .100/.143/.125, .268 OPS and 0 HRs in 40 ABs.

So many infielders in the pipeline for BAL, should have sold high.

Rays bullpen is a never ending adventure. They tried to blow it after the offense bludgeoned Verlander, but Rays hold on 8-5.
I feel like when you run a pitching staff the way they do, there is always the chance you end up putting two guys out there who just don't have it that day for whatever reason. I get why they do it, and it mostly seems to work for them, but it really does feel to me like their pitching strategy is almost destined to fail in the postseason when 1) the meltdowns are more costly and 2) the batters see each guy more in a short time frame.

This year certainly feels different for them so far, and I honestly enjoy watching them play a lot. This is more just a feeling I have in my gut than anything real.

Mike Clevinger never did look like a baseball player, but he's really embracing the straight-up white trash look these days with the long ponytail, porn stache and unbuttoned jersey with no shirt under it.
