Pujols pitching.

or “pitching”
I saw this as I was scanning Twitter last night and just assumed the Cards were getting crushed which is when this usually happens. Isn't it kind of bad form to do this when you're winning? Longoria appeared to be having fun with it, asking for the ball when he got a hit of Pujols and I'm pretty sure there's no "unwritten rule" about it, but it just seems odd.

Against another team, perhaps, but Kapler and the Giants have made it pretty clear they don't give a damn about any perceived breach of baseball etiquette.

The cradle of the game.
Marlins down 1 B9, bases loaded, 1 out, Chisholm flies out to RF, guy on 3rd tags, scores. But left 3rd too soon, called out, ending the game.

But it was all overturned on replay. Game tied. LOL.

The Mets blew it in the 9th, but Pete Alonso saved it with a 2-run HR in the 10th.

447 ft, 113.7 (!) mph off the bat.

Jazz Chisholm is off to an incredible start to the season. .304/.346/.617 with a 170 wRC+ and 7 home runs already, and he's also seen a huge change in his batted ball profile.

2021: 20.4% LD%, 48.6% GB%, 31% FB%, 18.2% HR/FB, 40.1% Pull%, 27.8% Opp%
2022: 27.3% LD%, 34.1% GB%, 38.6% FB%, 20.6% HR/FB, 50.6% Pull%, 13.5% Opp%

His xBA and xSLG are within 10 points of his actual BA and SLG and his K% has improved from 28.6% to 22.7%.

Looking simply at the standings, and not so much actual records, it's surprising how unsurprising this season is playing out. We're just approaching the 25% mark of the season and there are only 3-4 teams that look out of place to me.

The Twins have been the biggest overachievers, but despite being in first place, they're still well within reach of what I expected – battling the Guardians for 2nd/.500. Perhaps the White Sox sluggish start is what hasn't met expectations, but I guess the only real surprise here is that the White Sox have played under .500 for most of the first month+, and yet Tony LaRussa has managed to not say or do anything really dumb and unpopular to call attention to himself.

The underachievers Mariners and Braves both in 4th place, but Atlanta is only a good series out of 2nd place and Texas is due for a losing streak that at least bumps Seattle back to 3rd place.

The Pirates and Cubs are both pretty bad teams, but it's still weird to see a rebuilding Pittsburgh team in 3rd place. The NL Central is just a terrible division.

Did anyone have the Yankees on a 119 win pace for the season at this point?

Obviously no, but both Baseball Prospectus and Fangraphs attempts at mathematical prediction had NY as the top team in all of MLB coming in. BP/PECOTA (their system) especially loved them and have them going 105-57 now (including current results).

https://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/
Well sure, factoring in their start, it's easy to project them for 105 wins now. Preseason, PECOTA did project them for 98 wins and the top spot in the AL, but Fangraphs had the Yankees projected for second place in the East, behind the Jays, with 91 wins. Can't find a way to backdate their projections on their sites, but this article dated 3/29 shows both projections plus a couple gambling over/under lines.

Sorry, you're right, I was confusing their (very conservative) standings projections with their depth chart talent ratings, which have NY as the most talented team coming into the season as well as from here on out (these numbers are just for the remainder of the season, pretty sure, not counting games already played).

Maybe the "How About Them Reds" thread should be replaced by "How About Them Tigers". Detroit has the worst offense in the AL – last in runs, home runs and stolen bases. They also have an entire rotation on the IL: Casey Mize, Matt Manning, Michael Pineda, Tyler Alexander... Eduardo Rodriguez is expected to join them after straining his oblique in his last start (although it's expected to only sideline him for a couple of weeks).

Tonight their lone breakout star Tarik Skubal was dealing with 5 shutout innings, but the last out he recorded was on a line drive that deflected off his shin. He immediately limped off the field and through the dugout to get X-rays. Reliever Jacob Barnes came in to start the 6th inning and 5 pitches later the Guardians were winning 4-0.

Weird schedule for Detroit. 15 straight games vs Guardians and Twins, doubleheader of May 31, no off days.
It seems to be a weird schedule all around the league this year, a lot of home and home series. NY only plays the White Sox two series all year but those series are 7 games within 11 days. Also NY will have played BAL 13 times and TOR 9 times before facing TB at all.

Very eventful 7th in MIL tonight for rare plays - inside-the-parker attempted, and a triple play

And yes the scheduling has gotten more and more dumb & imbalanced that way over the past few years... even with the new scheduling next year I bet many interdivision, intraleague opponents will still have their season series often close to each other.

Albert Pujols didn't even start today, but he still hit two home runs against the Pirates as the Cardinals won 18-4. It should have been 18-0, but they decided to let Yadier Molina make his pitching debut in the bottom of the 9th. Steven Matz was the Cardinals starter, but left after 4 pitches with a stiff shoulder.

If it was probably 99% of anyone else in the league, I might be able to accept the "I was making a joke based off of what Tim Anderson said in an article two years ago" argument, and brush it off as stupidity and ignorance.

But Donaldson doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.

So after all of it went down and Anderson and his teammates discussed why the "Jackie" reference offended him, apparently Yankees fans joined in on the fun? By this report, not just a few of them?

After nobody from the organization or fanbase was punished for throwing trash at the Guardians players earlier this year.

Anderson hit a three-run homer and then put a finger to his lips to silence fans booing and chanting "Jackie" at him, capping a tumultuous weekend at Yankee Stadium and helping the Chicago White Sox beat New York 5-0 Sunday night for a doubleheader sweep.

I think Liam Hendriks said it, but in general, you don’t have inside or cutesy jokes with people who you really don’t like.

I have no idea why Donaldson thought that they had jokes between them but then again I guess I do because Donaldson is an Asshole.

it’s too bad him and McCann didn’t cross paths. That amount of douche and smarm in one clubhouse would tear the fabric of space and time

Could he just be stupid? Yes, but I think he legitimately was trying to get a rise out of him. He knew it was racist and wanted to make fun of him. He's just a dick. Something should be done about it, a suspension at least. Will it happen? I have my doubts.
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." He's lucky it didn't get to that point.

Kapler leaves Taylor Rogers in for 7 hits in 1/3 of an inning and the Mets have come back from a giant deficit again
