I'm now fully on board with JA's Yankee sacrifice, but if they're both gonna win, that's fine with me.

Also, absolutely huge outing for Williams. If something is gonna turn him around, you'd think that would be it.

You always got the sense Grisham was somewhat better than a 4th OF last year, but they had Soto so it didn't matter.

First 2 or less run win since April 18th!

It's not even that they had Soto last year. Like RAB pointed out, it's that they gave Verdugo 600 at bats while Grisham just rotted on the bench.

For whatever reason, Grish hasn't played LF but for 21 games in 2019 for Milwaukee. If he could do it, I think the Yankees would have put him out there last year when Verdugo was struggling. And if not LF, where? Judge, Soto, and Stanton were the priority bats.

Admittedly, I still find it hard to believe they didn't at least try it.

DJ is 9 for 19 with two walks in AA/AAA, expecting him to be activated (Vivas sent down) and start Friday at 2B.

DJ in the AAA lineup again tonight, maybe that cortisone shot pushed back his timetable a little.

Also the Yankees have genuinely the most ridiculous schedule I've ever seen over the next few weeks:

They fly from NY to start a West Coast trip on Friday, May 9.

3@A's
3@SEA

Then they fly back cross-country for six home games, Mets 3 and TEX 3.

Then they fly back cross-country for another West Coast trip, starting May 23.

3@COL
3@LAA
3@LAD

Fly home.

4 cross-country trips in three weeks, their only two West Coast trips of their season with a week in NY in between. Alrighty!

Should be lots of offense this weekend, Warren, Rodon and Schmidt are faced with a ballpark where A’s pitchers have allowed a collective .820 OPS so far, compared to just .651 on the road.

Only three players in MLB have 10+ home runs and an OPS above 1.000 so far this season:

Aaron Judge (12 / 1.241)
Shohei Ohtani (11 / 1.032)
Trent Grisham (10 / 1.017)

The worst part of being a West coast Yankees fan is having to stay up late for their games.

What do you mean it's 7:11 and they've barely started? I'm used to being super angry at 4pm

Youngest Yankees with 3 homers in a game:

Jasson Dominguez, 22 years, 91 days tonight
Joe DiMaggio, 22-200 vs Browns 6/13/1937

NY wanted DJ to play consecutive games before being activated, which was initially supposed to be Tuesday/Wednesday. But Scranton got rained out Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, so now they’re hoping he plays today/tomorrow and activated next series.

Rice sits, Dominguez gets to start against the lefty:

Goldschmidt, 1B
Grisham, CF
Judge, DH
Bellinger, RF
Volpe, SS
Wells, C
Dominguez, LF
Reyes, 2B
Peraza, 3B

This can’t keep up forever so I need to mention Goldschmidt’s insane numbers so far against lefties.

18-31 with 5 walks and 3 HRs

.581/.649/1.032 splits, a 1.681 OPS.

That works.

Wow, hell of a rally. Two homers for Judge, a walk for Bellinger, double for Volpe, and a laser from Peraza. Needed that today.

Grisham could have caught the double. It stayed in the park and he seemed to be lining it up in his final few steps.

Another ball hit over Grisham’s head. He’s a good CF but I don’t trust him on deep balls.

Rested bullpen gives up 7 runs. That’s baseball, Suzyn.

5-0 after 1 1/2 innings. Ex-Yankee pitchers have been kind to their old teammates — Nestor, Wandy and now Severino. Only Michael King pitched well. Clay Holmes looming on the horizon.

YES reports DJ LeMahieu played all 9 innings at second base today for Scranton, went 1-for-4. Expectation is he joins the team in Seattle tomorrow. After a long plane ride, it might be best to sit Old Bones out for a day.

Sears pitched well yesterday too. I forgot about Nestor, that is three massive blowups.

Boone and NY are doing a fantastic job protecting Judge, who despite being far and away the best hitter in MLB so far this year, is somehow only tied for 17th in BBs with just 24. I think teams would love to walk him more but Rice and Goldschmidt and Grisham are doing a nice job protecting him.

NY have 70 HRs through their first 40 games, most in team history (through 40 games obv).

Cortes 2 innings, 8 ER
Severino 4 innings, 8 ER
Wandy .2 innings, 6 ER

Total: 6.2 innings, 22 ERs.

NY has scored 235 runs so far, so that is almost 10 percent of their ERs for the season in those 6.2 innings against those three recent Yanks. Thanks guys!

Those 235 runs in the first 40 games put them on pace for 951 for the season, which would be the 10th most any team has scored since 1960, and the most any team would have scored since NY in 2007 (968, 4th highest since 1960).

The 1999 Indians are still the only team to crack 1000 (1009) since 1960, both BOS and NY fans remember those Indians teams well.
