Apparently that was the older brother who threw the punch. So Dad was booted for vaping, people were yelling at the 16 year old and the older brother went after the guy who was yelling the most and shut him up for a second
Ah. Okay. I’m 36 and was like that 16 year old has a much fuller beard than me.

Cool story on bats and the difference in each one despite them all being the "same" length and weight.

'No two trees are alike': Major leaguers find that their bats may have been holding them back – The Athletic

“What sticks with me is the chance to get what they earned,” said Long, a former minor leaguer himself. “When you go up to the plate and hit a ball to the wall and the outfielder catches it at the wall, and nobody has looked at your bats, there’s only a 1 in 12 chance that you are swinging the best bat in your bag. Which means that there’s a 91% chance that you just got robbed of a home run by your bat.”

The Astros traded away both Ramon Laureano and Teoscar Hernandez in 2017 with full team control for very little return, what a powerhouse they'd still be without those two moves.

Would it kill the friggin Rangers to score a run? My god they are pathetic. I don't know how the Sox couldn't beat these stiffs.

Portland
The Braves are up 20-0 on the Pirates. 7 hr - 2 being grand slams.

Wilmer Difo gave up 8 runs in an inning. I don't recall a bigger beat down to a position player.

Mejia with a grand slam in top of the 12th, after 2 intentional walks, gives Rays 9-5 lead, and they hold on to win 9-7. 8 in a row.

Roberts let Bauer go 126 pitches tonight, bringing him in to start the 7th when he was already over 110 and had scuffled a little in the 6th. Given what the Dodgers have invested in Bauer, that seems extremely shortsighted.

Pfft… that's easy. Josh Naylor pulled off a 9-6 force out at 2nd base on a non-pitcher earlier this week. I tried to find video of it for the unusual plays thread but came up empty.
Judge did this to Madrigal tonight in the crazy CWS/NYY game.

With the Twins and Angels tanking out of playoff contention already (albeit still only 50 games in - a miracle comeback is possible for the Twins with the talent they have, Angels very unlikely), it seems to be these teams vying for the playoffs in the AL:

East: all but Orioles
Central: White Sox, Indians
West: Astros, Athletics

8 teams for 5 spots. the WCs could easily be all from the East. Some quality teams are going to be left out. Most susceptible to falling out of it of those 8: BOS, CLE.

Jays bullpen with a complete meltdown in the 9th against the Rays. 5 walks in the inning, 3 runs walked in. 4-2 lead taken into 9th, Rays win 6-4. 10 in a row.

It was 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, Jays up 4-3 and then the Jays walked the next 4 batters in a row. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.

Rays get a couple close 3-2 calls to keep the first inning going, and then Wendle swats a hanging curve just over the fence, 5-0 TB over TOR in the 1st.

NY appreciates TB making TOR throw so many pitches today.

TD from Brady to Gronk makes it 14-7 TB.
