@jonahkeri: Brian Matusz tossed from 12th inning of Marlins-Orioles for having foreign substance on his arm. This is a really weird game.

Jeremy Guthrie just imploded. 8 runs in the first, 3 more in the second before he was pulled without getting an out.

That clip is amazing. He's gotten a lot stronger pretty quick to not recognize that had enough on it

According to the announcers that was wind-aided--guess he got it up high enough that it really, really carried.

Find a clip of Bryant's HR later that game to see a no-doubter--477 feet.

Amazing that with all Bryant's hype, Harper is still about a year younger.

Matt Holliday just reached base safely in his 43rd straight game to open the season.  New team record.
Surprised Stan the Man never did that.

Just wait until July when the ball is carrying better.

Yeah, didn't look good for Strasburg.  Hopefully, it's not a big deal, but given his seemingly glass-made body, uggh.

And Bettis for Colorado had a no-hitter/no walks through 7, broken up in the 8th by Asche.  May have been perfect, but I think Tulo might have had an error earlier in the game.

I was half-watching the Mets game earlier when I saw a moon shot HR leave the stadium. I had no idea who was up, but just from how far it went, I knew it must have been Giancarlo Stanton, and in fact it was. 466 feet, longest HR ever at Citi Field, breaking the previous record of 465 feet by....

yep, Giancarlo Stanton, in 2011.

No pitcher in history has given up 5 HRs in under 2 innings pitched before Shane Greene did it tonight.

That's a bit hard to believe, but that's what is being posted on Twitter, maybe no starting pitcher ever?

Harrisburg, Pa.
Derek Fisher, an Astros prospect for High A Lancaster, hit 3 HRs (2 grand slams) and a triple last night en route to 12 RBIs last night.

Under 2 innings would be correct.  In terms of starters, the only other one to give up 5 in 2 IP or less was the immortal Rob Bell in 2001 for Texas against the Yankees.  His was exactly 2 IP.

Shutting him down during his rookie season looks dumber all the time

Bartolo Colon just doubled into the gap and it got by Ichiro and he couldve got a triple if he busted it.

Hilarious. Colon is the only argument for pitchers hitting.

Ex-Yankee David Phelps served up a real meatball to Colon.

If they had kept running his innings count up that year and his career played out the same way how much blame would the Nats be copping for his injury list?

I'd guess there would be plenty of people saying how his certain HOF career was ruined by injuries because he was overworked in his first year.

I wrote this about Colon a while back, in reference to Colon knocking himself out for the season while batting for the Red Sox in '08.

His cuts were Ruthian in every way, right down to the trailing gut fat. They were so mammoth that they tore his body asunder from the inside. Colon’s swings were just too awesome for his own body to handle.

I watched El Guapo bunt into a double play (third to first) and not be particularly close to beating it out.  Olympic Stadium almost came down from the thunderous applause of Sox fans in Montreal that were too delighted to watch the whole sequence to care about how poorly it went.

Kole Calhoun bunting there seems so dumb. He's one of the Angels best hitters this season.

Harper versus Chapman: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/lets-watch-bryce-harper-face-aroldis-chapman/

I love that Harper altered his approach when facing Chapman. Smart hitter.

The kick’s not totally gone, but it’s nearly eliminated, with Harper instead putting his toe down and keeping his heel up. It’s all in the interest of trying to simplify and be quicker to the ball. With his regular swing mechanics, Harper might not be able to connect. This way, he might buy himself milliseconds. For a hitter, few things are more precious than extra milliseconds.

Crazy unprecedented game by Andrew Cashner tonight. He had 12 Ks and 0 BBs, but the Mets went 11-13 on balls put into play, making him the first guy ever to have 12 Ks/0 BBs and not make it through 5 innings.
