This seems like an overreaction. I understand benching him but you're changing your mind and cutting him for literally one game.

Bet he gets claimed and plays decently somewhere else, you know, like he has the past few years. If they were crawling with extra d-men, maybe...but give him a chance?

I've seen enough. The guy is what he is, and that's a 27 year old borderline/7th NHL defenseman. It's not worth keeping him on the NHL roster. I'd rather stick with a kid like Morrow that might actually get better.

They're giving themselves options. It's early enough in the year that Irwin will likely clear waivers, and then they get 30 days where they could send him to Providence if they wanted too. He figures to be the odd man out if/when Chara returns anyways. Chara, Krug and Morrow are ahead of him on the depth chart anyways.

These could be waivers for the purpose of sending him to Providence, right?
I would imagine thats the plan, though if someone claims him its not like he's good enough to worry about it.

Irwin could make it as a PP specialist or as a bottom pair in a more offensive system. What Clode wants, he's never going to be a good fit. Too bad.
