Some interesting pre-match notes for Spurs-Newcastle:

  • Tottenham will let Serge Aurier decide whether he plays following the death of his brother on Monday.
  • Tanguy Ndombele suffered an injury in training (SHOCKING I SAY!) and is not expected to play while Dele Alli's hamstring problem looks set to keep him out again.
  • Eric Dier is serving the third match of his ban and Juan Foyth (knee) is a long-term absentee.
  • Newcastle will be without loan signing Danny Rose for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Tottenham. The full-back is ineligible to feature against his parent club and is likely to be joined on the sidelines by central defender Jamaal Lascelles (ankle) and midfielders Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff (both hamstring).
As I mentioned in the Spurs thread, I would've liked to have seen Longstaff play as a potential signing.

Anyone want to bet on Spurs' backline? Dav-Toby-Jan-Davies? Dav-Toby-Jan? Sissoko-Dav-Toby-Davies?

Edit: Some internet sleuthing shows the backline has already been announced (DOH!): Serge-Dav-Toby-Davies. I may not like Serge as a player, but I still have much sympathy for him and respect the hell outta him for playing today. Happy to see Tang back on the bench. Hoping that Sess, Skipp, and Bergy all get some PT. Spurs lining up with:

Hugo
Serge-Dav-Toby-Davies
Sissoko-Winks-GLC-Lucas
Son-Kane

So Bournemouth who saved their season hopes with that bizaare Leicester match get City today. 3 points behind both Watford and West Ham with 3 to play (City, Everton, Southampton) and 3 and 9 goals behind respectively. Don't need points today, but need to not get squashed.

Spurs are playing their 3rd game in 6 days and 5th game in 13 days ... so of course Mourinho names an entirely unchanged side.

Shockingly, Spurs look lethargic and have been outshot 5-1 in the opening quarter of the game.

Great job by Moura winning the ball back and keeping it alive and setting the ball to be passed to Son, who made a real class finish.

I’m using it now. I’m annoyed it isn’t on a lot of Smart TV apps and I have to watch it on my computer, but it his Spurs game as easy to find, and the stream has been perfect so far.

I wasn't able to use my Roku, but I was able to cast it from the App. Since I use Chrome, I'll be switching to computer screen for 2nd half.

It was a microcosm of Spurs at the moment--Serge biffs a cross, Lucas works hard to recover, nice combo by GLC and Kane, and a sweet finish from Son.

I’m willing to give Aurier a pass today on any mistakes he makes, but that clearance was no bueno.

I’m watching City-Bournemouth, and my signal looks like I’m watching filmed highlights from Premier League Review.

This is bullshit. I already pay for DirectTV‘s sports package, and the NBC sports subscription service for non-tv games, and they add a third platform. Jerks.

Nice work by Kane/Lamela to put the game away. Have to say Spurs looked pretty good, and Newcastle wasn’t total shite.

The games are also on NBC Gold for those that have the Premier League Pass subscription.

Wikipedia tells me that Reiss Nelson was born in a place called "Elephant and Castle, England."

It is apparently a neighborhood in London.

Yep, Arlo made the same comment on air. It has a tube station and everything :)

To us Americans, it sounds like a place in a Studio Ghibli movie.
You guys are so cute.

Edit: It's 15 mins or so walk from Waterloo Station so if you're ever in that neighborhood. It's also being gentrified, cos it's so close to the centre and they have to get rid of all the poor people who live on council estates. I was working for the council when the compulsory purchase orders were being mooted. A right fuckin scandal. You'se would love it, cos it's capitalism at its finest.

The lesson I'm taking from 2014 and 2020 is that seasons don't end strongly when Jordan Henderson is not available.

I really can not believe that I am witnessing the first league title of my Liverpool fandom, with 93 point secured and two games remaining, and I still feel like we are collapsing.
Sucks that they will finish short of the points record, but I'd rather they be flat now than start next season dropping points like this.

Massive match today between the Montreal Impact and FC Cincinnati LCFC and SHU. United also visiting Palace later in the day. Palace have lost all 5 of their previous matches (egads!). Relevant table below (points, GD, MW 37 (date), MW 38):

3. Chelsea - 63, +15, @Liverpool (7/22), Wolves
4. LCFC - 59*, +29, @Spurs (7/19), Man U
5. Man U - 59*, +26, WHU (7/21), @LCFC
6. Wolves - 56, +11, Palace (7/20), @Chelsea
7. Spurs - 55, +11, LCFC (7/19), Palace
8. SHU - 54*, +5, Everton (7/20), @Southampton
9. Arse - 53, +8, @Villa (7/21), Watford

As SHU pushes numbers forward, LCFC hits on the break and salt the 3 points away. Well-played football match and LCFC are very effing good. Sunday's Spurs-LCFC match is immense.

Big three points for Leicester.

Meanwhile, AVL were on the verge of beating Everton and getting a massive three points, but El Ghazi missed an incredible sitter and Walcott scored in the 88th minute to make it 1-1.

Sweet, sweet safety for Brighton.

Well, yes, there’s a scenario involving 6 or 7 results all going the wrong way, and BHA giving up its 11 goal differential to boot. I think you can get 1000-1 odds that they go down - not bad insurance in case the unthinkable happens.

Here’s to another year of bottom-half Premier League football! It really does still feel glorious.

Trying to work out which result tonight makes my preferred outcome (Villa going down) the most likely. I guess a Watford win? It's hard to see Watford taking points off City. Maybe Arsenal. Probably don't want a West Ham win so that the Hammers are on the beach for the last day.

A draw is what you want. Puts both sides 4 up plus goal differential, and makes it more likely West Ham aren't off to vacation for the last week.

I like Draw (+205) in this West Ham — Watford match. When a tie gets both teams what they want, there’s gotta be better than a 1-in-3 chance that that happens.
