My reply was meant as sarcasm; I know you are a big Wednesday supporter, but again in the context of my post, it was very clear I was talking about Sheffield United and nobody had a problem understanding what I was talking about. You can take your stump speech somewhere else, I have read The Ball is Round too, y'know.
I’m just boring and stubborn enough to keep at it all year...it’s nothing personal, just a pet peeve- again, nothing to do with understanding and everything to do with respect.

I have the book, still haven’t gotten going on it- bit of a stuttering start at times. Looking forward to getting through it.

To the more pertinent point at hand, a great first half by United, much better for Wolves after the restart. Great set play and better finish by Neves.

It looks like Jesse Lingard isn't wearing shin pads under his socks. That's insane, isn't it?

I’m all for a eye-in-the-sky to monitor all replays and relay a recommendation to the ref’s earpiece. This is essentially the same as the linesmen throwing up their flags and would take much less time.

Is Neves the best player from outside the agreed-upon top six? I think so.
Interesting question - among his teammates, I'd also put Raúl Jiménez in the conversation, and outside of Wolves probably Ryan Fraser, Richarlison / Digne / Gomes, Vardy / Maddison / Pérez, Wilfried Zaha, Felipe Anderson on his day... I'm sure there are a ton I'm missing as well

Uh, you are clearly forgetting Teemu Pukki?????

Hard to compare across different positions, but Zaha was the first name to come to mind. I'd nominate Lewis Dunk as maybe the best CB outside the Top 6.

In all my competition, shin guards were seen more as a nuisance/hindrance than a benefit. If they're worth anything in padding, they're heavy (especially in the rain). If they're light, they're less useful as protection. You're pretty-well desensitized to the level of contact they're meant to guard against, they only protect a small area (mainly where the tibia is somewhat "sharp" against the skin), and they're useless against any of the harder knocks, anyway.

Also, my n=1 sample, I had a guard snapped by a glancing blow. I would have been fine had the sharp end not dug into my skin. That sucked.

I can think of 2 occasions where mine saved me a broken leg. Ended up with nasty bruises, one of them with a decent little gash, too. But I’m also a battler out there, not one of those silky-smooth skills guys.

Imagine looking up to see Lee Cattermole rushing your way without shin guards...

Yeah, I'm with @67YAZ . Guards are actually a hugely important piece of equipment for some/most players. I played pickup a few years ago and got cracked in the shin and decided then and there to never play again without them. They can make them as light or heavy as you want.
