Spurs played 10 behind the ball against City and any manager can see how effective that is right now. Even Lampard figured this out before the sack. Not dumping on the win for Spurs but it never seemed like a repeatable performance to me.

Palace-Brighton ends 1-1; announcers spend the end of the game crapping all over Palace about how well Brighton played and how they deserved me, and how Palace was "outplayed but not outscored" which while not wrong felt a bit over the top. Ah well, too bad so sad for Brighton

Good grief that last free kick by Vieira at the end was terrible, right into the keepers paws. Not what you need. Brentford fully deserved their point.

The press LOVES Brighton. I guess a lot of them live in the area.

I was trying to tag you to see if you had been watching and if I was being crazy but couldn't figure out how to do it :p
I’m out on the west coast and was up until 2 drinking with my friends and could not get up for the first half. Games start waaaay too early here.

Trippier with a great play to clear the ball off the line as it was halfway over to keep things level against Bournemouth in stoppage time.

Been listening to Pep's presser yesterday. I think City comes out shooting this week. How many goals will Haaland get vs Villa and Arsenal?

I was just able to see Union Berlin pull off another comeback against RB Leipzig to win 2-1. RB Leipzig’s first loss in a long time. Looks like Union benefited from an interesting VAR call. But one point behind Bayern, with 42 points after 20 games is incredible.

Are Leeds the most wasteful set piece team in the league right now? They look like they’re trying to coordinate on the fly and I don’t think they’ve connected yet. Feels like they’ve had at least a half dozen from good positions and haven’t managed a thing.

Well, in fairness they don’t have a manager.

although one suspects this is one of their major issues.

sm every time I see Leeds I wonder how these guys are at the bottom of the table, but yeah it’s the little bit of composure, nous, awareness, eye of the tiger, imposing your will, whatever you want to call it, the thing that good sides have. It just all falls apart just enough at the wrong moment.

MU looking more dangerous now since their subs. Leeds have let them hang around too long. Think the Devils slot one in the next 5’ and that will be it

Btw Weghorst may not be an in form goalscorer but he seems to be the classic example of a big athletic body in that position that just makes the whole formation work

Reports Walker injured (again) in warm ups but City probably had the best XI bar Foden available for the first time in a long time. Really hope there’s a bump by just getting all the quality back

Why does Pep hate Foden all of the sudden?

After starting only two CMs against Spurs last week, Pep starts four this week with all of Rodri, KDB, Bernardo and Gundogan on the pitch (Rodri playing CB but generally high enough up the pitch as to be where a CDM would be anyways). Unsurprisingly, they look a lot better moving the ball. Wonder if that’s the end of Pep’s 4-2-3-1 experiment or if he’ll break it out again later.

It’s only moderately different but this is the best we have looked in months. Rediscovered the big switch and some vertical passes and it’s giving Villa a lot to handle

Villa just barely interrupting these attacks. City look good for a crooked number here.

Ollie Watkins sneaks one past Ederson, after it gets bobbled the back by City. As sharp as their attack has been, City have been careless with the ball in their own end. Shockingly so.

Why Pep decided to turn it off at HT is anyone's guess, but they should have ran up the score this match to shove it to the rest of the league.

Win the match 10-0 and just walk off.

City play Arsenal midweek, I’m sure he’s trying to keep them as fresh as possible for that one.

thought the same.

When City were playing with malice their attack was so potent it was scary, but the defending was still lax, and Villa have almost nothing going forward. Diaz' tackle of Bailey in the first half was clean, but only just, could easily have been a booking, a sending off, a DOGSO, and/or an easy goal from an unforced error on a lazy pass acrows their own back four.

Villa threatening again. If they bring it to 3-2 with 7' plus stoppage left... it will get a little tense.

We’ve got the whole Duran experience here.

About 5 min ago, Rodri jumped over Duran for a highball. Duran’s response to run at another City player, jump, and throw his ass into him. Luckily he missed, otherwise it was an easy yellow.

And just now he turned a fractional chance into a crossbar rattler. Helluva strike.

so...what is going on with Soton?
Whatever it is, they think Marsch can fix it!

The club is great story - part of the EPL founding class, down to the third tier in 2009, back in the EPL in 2012. They'd built such a strong, productive academy that just seemed to churn out quality EPL players, recruit budding stars, and spot superb managers on the rise. Not sure what the relationship is, but the club was sold in 2017, their were fewer big hits in the transfer market, and the talent pipeline slowed down significantly. And then they were sold again last year, invested a ton in young players, and brought in Jones to manage. Jones was some combo of a bad fit and over his head, so now it's emergency time.

Fab, Baj, & the Captain is a new midfield combo - two traffic cones and a Vespa. Not sure how this will work or if it’s intended to work well.

I feel like Pickford's warmups are just to shout at a lamppost for 20 minutes.
