Arsenal playing 3-4-3 with a Xhaka-Ceballas midfield duo would be extremely vulnerable if Spurs were, you know, good, which they aren't.

Tottenham and Arsenal are true rivals. Trading defensive calamities like that is impressive.

Actually it was more Kolasinac's error to play in Son, who shoulders off Luiz and chips it past the keeper, who got his angles totally wrong.

God Aurier is so bad. Gives the ball away cheaply and then gets booked for the subsequent tackle.

I know I complain about him every week but good god is Aurier a disaster. And he starts every game and never comes off.

Spurs don't have any other right backs in the squad with Juan Foyth injured and Walker-Peters out on loan.

Kane (why is Kane so deep?) or GLC win the ball in midfield, ignore Son, pass to Aurier on the right, he plays a game with an overlapping Sissoko, back to Aurier, cross to the keeper.

Lucas and Son's decision-making on the ball on these counters in space has been terrible.

Son’s decision-making has always been the difference between his being a useful piece and potentially becoming world class. He’s a selfish idiot.

What are the odds Aurier can make it through the second half without getting a second yellow? Maybe 14%?

Arsenal very much on the front foot the last several minutes. Spurs keep deliberately hoofing it long and it's not working.

Lucas playing more defense than either of our FBs is a problem.

I was pissed at Mourinho for not subbing earlier, a lifeless stretch for a good portion of the second half, and Aurier sucking, but Spurs scores twice and really should have scored more except for great goalkeeping by Martinez, and they won the game which is big to remain in contention for Europe.

Counterpoint: more of the heavy lifting to create those goals was done by Arsenal's back line than Tottenham's attackers.

Damn, Bournemouth were a goal down but scored two in two minutes. Huge win if they can hang on.

Leicester are down to ten men. Mon the Cherries.

West Ham, Watford, Villa, and Bournemouth all won. Probably would’ve got decent odds on that.

West Ham plays Watford next, that’s a big game.

Flipped this on at the 22 minute mark, just in time to see Martial bury one...the third goal of the match already. Hey yo!

United have a chance to go third today but started poorly. Martial missed a 1v1 with the keeper and Pogba gave the ball away which led to a goal for Southampton. Truthfully, Pogba and Wan Bissaka look a step behind everyone on the pitch until United's equalizer which Wan Bissaka kept the ball nicely for Pogba, who sent a pinpoint ball for Martial to hold up for Rashford.

Then Martial atoned for his mistake but firing a laser past the keeper.

I don't know if this is the best United side since SAF retired, but its definitely the most confident.

Seeing Luke Shaw out there with the dad-bod makes me feel pretty good about my COVID physique.

By xG difference, Mourinho's first season was better over a whole season. United started pretty poorly this year and they are on a super hot finishing streak right now that's also aided by all the penalties. They're good, but let's not start sucking each other's popsicles just yet. They were pretty mediocre through January.

Right, that was the year they finished second.

The United side through January and this side is completely different. My last line refers to this iteration of it. It helps to have Bruno, Pogba, Rashford, and Greenwood all on the pitch at the same time.

No, it was the year they finished 6th. Utd were actually much better in the first Mou season than they were the next year, but the results were better the next year because the finishing improved and De Gea had a ludicrously amazing season.

It's a fair point that the squad is better now. OTOH the fixtures have been extremely soft since the restart.

I have to admit I'm not too familiar with xG. I know its been discussed here a lot and I *think* during the Mourinho years it was actually discussed with regards to United and how much they outperformed their xG one season (which is probably the second year when they finished second, my mistake).

Yeah, competition has definitely been soft. Then again before the restart they beat City and Chelsea.

I don't think they're title contenders yet. But get in the top 4, make a signing like Sancho and some depth moves, and keep Pogba happy and I think we got something.

Would that something be 3rd place?

j/k I’m just annoyed to see your side gaining any confidence. It’s been an enjoyable 7 years where City have finished ahead and long May it last

He's already a world class striker/winger/SS in my book. His finishing is there, he can use both feet, is blazing fast, strong as hell, can play with his back to goal, and takes defenders on. His lack of vision is certainly a hole in his game, but one you absolutely take with the whole package. He's easily the best Spurs player at the moment and I don't think there's a club in the world save for perhaps Liverpool, MANC, or PSG that he wouldn't start for. Just to add, he has 10 goals and 10 assists on the EPL season--one in which Spurs have been a shit show and Kane/Dele have been injured for significant periods of time, and he had to compete for South Korea in some international competitions.

That Lecister-Utd fixture to end the season is now looking like a potential CL play-in game.
