Those last two goals were phenomenal.

We’re not even to December yet and we’re legitimately at a point of wondering if MC or Leicester is the bigger threat to LFC. Didn’t see that coming a few months ago.

Just a really labored season for City. Bad injuries and bad form, can’t really get into gear
Kind of feels like the Pep era is winding down...they've become a bit predictable and don't seem to be able to match the required game to game effort levels. Whether that's injuries and long term exhaustion or them starting to tire of Pep, I don't know.

Feels like they could use a real freshening up. Players or coach.

Jose fist bumped the ball boy again after Dele scored. Oh Jose, he’s so friendly and cheerful!

Low quality shin shot for Dunk. Looked odds on to score there but his shin game is weak. Try going for the boot next time.

Back line distribution has been terrible for LFC so far. Is Klopp’s thinking that Lovren’s ability to compete in the air is what puts him ahead of Gomez?

Bloody hell Ox fluffed his lines there and it was such a beautiful script as well. You gotta score there, after such a wonderful build up.

197 points or whatever it is plus every domestic cup will grind a team down. I think it might be too early to pronounce the group or the coach incompatible. It may just be one of those things where the champion just couldn’t muster enough to give it a go. Feels like it happens in most sports. More of a concern is that with such a leaky back line the European campaign will falter as well.

Pep is a far better coach than many and certainly than I am. I don’t understand his fascination with Gundogan and Mahrez. Losing Sane and having Sterling on the LW has really narrowed play and City are eventually left to just pound crosses in to a midget striker because the only options available are the full backs. This is a concern because it seems like Sane will definitely leave and City are linked to players like Oyarzabal who aren’t exactly pace merchants.
I wouldn’t be too upset to see Arteta leave for Arsenal as Pep May need someone telling him something different to shake the squad up but it’s almost assuredly too late now anyway. Laporte still has a ways to go and any help they can buy in Jan would need to settle in, it would take a huge unbeaten run to even stand a chance and I don’t know that this group has that in them right now

For a second week in a row, it doesn’t even work on my Roku. Having to run a choppy stream from a laptop. I’m guessing NBC is going cheap on their CDN.
The picture itself is still clearer than anything I ever had on broadcast. The ball literally disappears in flight, however.

In the space of three (?) years, we’ve gone from having every EPL game reliably available for the cost of a cable subscription to needing two sub fees and crossing fingers that the “premium” channel actually works.

City currently look like pre-Van Dijk Liverpool. Exciting attack, terrifying defense. A lack of confidence in the back completely transforms a team. The goalkeeper tries to be pitch perfect, the defenders start playing deeper to compensate for leaks... It snowballs.

the players are all a year older. Some are still in their prime obviously but they all have a lot of mileage. Few have their best days still ahead of them. They’re a half step slower. City needs new blood.

Between that and Atkinson’s VAR debacle with Firmino, I’m feeling Liverpool are more than a little hard done by this guy.
He also called 14 fouls on Liverpool to Man U’s 6 in the October draw when Liverpool had far more possession.

Liverpool have also only won 2 of the last 14 matches Atkinson has worked with them. But I’m sure that’s just a crazy coincidence.

Liverpool of all clubs complaining about the refs is rich.

also, that's as clear a red as it gets, it's a goalkeeper handling outside the box to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

I don’t think anybody is complaining about the red. Atkinson participating in what amounted to a trick play, however, is a problem.

Spurs win again, 3-2 over Bournemouth. Had a 3-0 lead and another wiped out by VAR, but again gave up late goals, including another in the last minute, to make it a one goal win.

Alli scored 2, continuing his resurgence under Mourinho.

Additionally, Sissoko scored. And it was awesome.

I see no issue with that restart.
If you want time to futz around building the wall after the ball is placed, stick a player in an illegal position and make the ref back him off, take the yellow if you want. The player was sent off, the sub was made, the ball was placed, the attacking side was prepared, there is no reason for the ref to hold it to allow the defending side an advantage.

Edit- that's the entire reason teams have a player stand over the ball, so the attacking side complains and the ref walks off the yards.

Side note on history...... David Martin the West Ham 3rd keeper who played today is the son of Alvin Martin, who I believe is the last defender before today to score a hat-trick in a top flight game in 1986. Best part of that trivia.... he score each goal against a different keeper.

Exactly. The referee never blows for a restart until the defense is set.

Not at all surprised to see the ABL crowd has no problem, though.
They do and they should. Quick restarts are common, just not usually near the box, because the defense is smart enough to assign a player to get in the way until the wall is set.
It is in-fact exactly what a ref should do, the rules do not allow for a delay for the defense to set itself, the re-start is supposed to happen at the convenience of the taking team, so long as the ball is correctly positioned, and no defending player has taken an illegal position.

I assume ABL is anyone buy Liverpool? I'm fine with Liverpool winning the league, better than City.

They don't need to wait for the defense to get set at all. A whistle doesn't need to be blown. That's why defenders stand in front of the ball to cause a delay to allow them to get set.

That’s not the standard for a restart if a team is preparing a set piece. You can either go for a quick restart or a set piece. If it’s a set piece, the referee makes the team taking the kick wait for his whistle to restart, which is exactly what happened. Atkinson blew for a restart without looking to see whether Liverpool was ready.

You can say it’s within his rights to do so, but it’s highly unusual. I guarantee you would be flipping the fuck out if that sort of decision cost Spurs points. And considering Atkinson’s background in Liverpool matches, it’s a pretty remarkable coincidence that this exception was made late in a match when Brighton needed a goal.

This was an unusual case.

Typically, when the ref sets a wall, he indicates that play will restart on his whistle. That’s dependent on all requirements being set which is the 10 yards.

In this case, with a red card, we enter a “gray area” where there’s a pause not tied to the offense requesting their 10 yards.

Atkinson honoring the request to restart before the defense was set is within the laws. It’s also not typically done, Atkinson inserting himself as a wildcard. It’s lawful, but not the normal run of play.
