I say go with the starting nine as deep into the game as you can, preferably it will be a late spring game where they may get more innings,. Give the top 3 of the rotation 2-3 inning each followed by the set up guy and closer. Pedal to the metal, don't let up and then listen to the bitches complain about that. .

Second to last game of spring.

So when do the Marlins get fined for the March 1 and March 2 games? If the Marlins want to start this crap then they should be held to the same standards.

It’s hard to see how the Marlins have much of a leg to stand on here, though, if they do contact the league office. They’ve thus far played four road games, but the first of those was in their home park (they share Roger Dean Stadium with the Cardinals). In their three actual road games, they’ve brought along four starters just once:
March 1: Christian YelichCasey McGehee
March 2: Jarrod SaltalamacchiaMarcell Ozuna
March 5: Rafael Furcal, Marcell Ozuna, Garrett Jones, Casey McGehee
Their one draw, Giancarlo Stanton, has played in all four home games this month, but he hasn’t made any trips.

From Hardball Times article.

Psh. Next year I hope they send zero regulars, and just have a check already in the mail to MLB. Considering what someone posted earlier, about the Marlins having done this three times this year themselves, screw them. They only get away with it because most of their players are so shitty virtually anyone in their camp can be considered a "possibility for the starting major league roster".

Ehh....the church doesn't smell much better with two people farting. He should have just left the Marlins' Methane lingering.  Playing the grownup is *always* the best strategy.

I don't agree with the conclusion.

On march 2, they also sent Solano, their 2013 starting second baseman per b-r, plus two guys who could be considered platoon regulars in Dobbs and Lucas.

On march 1, they also sent Brantley, who platooned at catcher last year, plus Lucas.

Some of those guys have as good an argument as Carp.

This MLB fine is a joke. The Sox should only agree to pay it if Loria gives back the public funding money for his stadium. The Marlins revel in the fact they ended up scamming the city of Miami for $400 million. Samson touted this as an "accomplishment" on Survivor. So they aren't actually hiding this at all. But this is also the same guy who teamed with Selig to kill baseball in Montreal. What should happen is that they're forced to sell the Marlins to someone who will move them to Montreal. Then as a reward for the city of Miami send the Rays to play in that stadium. Two Florida teams are overkill anyways. The Marlins fielded an "all star" roster for the first year the stadium opened then went back to the same old stuff. Loria should have been out of the game a long time ago.

The fine is a joke, no matter how big or small it is. It's pathetic that the Marlins made this an issue, and it's pathetic that MLB feels the need to back them.

JWH should either tell Bud to put it on his revenue sharing tab and add it into the rest of the Marlins' welfare check, or pay it in pennies.

Someone ín charge of this board needs to propose some kind of charity benefitting idea whereby members of this fucking board are sent to play the Marlins for one of their premium spring training games. Wasn't it Maalox who used to say he could hit a 95mph fastball? Did he ever take that challenge by the way?

Then they would be back to their "running up the score" complaint.

Yes, Maalox trained for his 90mph fastball challenge and took it for Bash 2008 or 2009 I believe.  Frisbetarian set it up with an ex-minor leaguer he knew.

If I were going to bet on one member here acquitting himself well against the Marlins, it would be OFT.

I have lived in South Florida for 15 years, and I can only think of five people I know that are Marlin's fans and that includes my husband.  My husband was born and raised here and although he played growing up, he knows nothing at all about the game of baseball, like most non Red Sox fans in South Florida.  Every once in a while when he gets embarrassed by the fact that I watch every game, he will say he is a big Marlins fan but he has never actually sat and watched a whole game on tv and doesn't know any of the players on the team.

What the hell? What definition of "fan" is he using? I think the definition has to be broad enough so people can miss some games during the season because shit happens, but if you aren't making an effort to watch as many games as humanly possible, there is something wrong with you and you need to be replaced with a replicant of some sort.

Lots of highschoolers can throw 80.  I was pretty sure it was 90.  And after Maalox flailed at 20 (?) pitches and barely put one (weakly) into play, the guy told Loxie that he was lucky to be facing his four-seamer, because his two-seamer moved even more.  Basically, weeks of practice in the batting cages were nowhere near good enough preparation for pitches thrown by actual humans.

I wasn't there myself, but I remember the thread afterwards was a pretty good read, especially Maalox's biting self-critique.

I was there and it was 85. As MD described above it was not pretty for Maalox FLA Maalox Please. The pitchers father was behind the screen talking the entire time. Cited "curves, sliders and 4 seamers" as what his kid could throw past Maalox.
Dizzy Dean would say,"it ain't braggin' if'n yah kin do it."

I was playing shortstop for the challenge. The pitcher was around 85-88 most of the time, because we had a radar gun behind the plate. Loxie got a slow roller to short and a few foul balls, but that was about it it.

Mike Greenberg on Mike and Mike really laid into the Marlins about this this morning. He got it all right about Marlins ownership ripping off the fan base, getting the money for stadium and then getting rid of most of their recognizable players. Also that this is not the first time. Even Mark Schlereth chimed in with, yeah, Mark Buehrle. Greenberg said he completely sided with Henry about 3 times.

Exactly my argument to him.  Things get ugly when he wants me to switch over from the Red Sox game to the Marlins.  I watch every game I can and no I am not going to switch to something you think of only because you saw my game on.  I don't know what is worse, marrying someone who doesn't like baseball or marrying a Yankee fan.  We also fight about my four year old.  He wants him to be a Marlins fan because he is growing up here.  I say that people who live here aren't Marlins fans and I want him to grow up rooting for a real team.  It's bad enough that I am going to lose on the Dolphins/Patriots argument, I am not giving in on this one.

I know a lot of people here don't like the whole "Red Sox Nation" shtick, but that's because there's so much more to our little civil religion than the shtick and denying your son the awesomeness of the comraderie one shares with Red Sox fans where one goes in favor of the dull void that comes with being the Marlin fan would be cruel.

Edit: Here's to hoping Henry sends the Marlins today's lineup card.

I've been here for awhile and, like you, I know only a handful of Marlins "Fans" - and most of those really have the Marlins as a second "local" team.  As it is now, most people who'd nominally be fans seem to kind of sort of watch the Marlins when they're on, or go to see a game when an interesting visiting team is in town.  They are willing to be happy for the Marlins if they go on a run, but no one really seems to bond with the team.

If the Marlins had any kind of tradition to go with the WS successes, they'd have far more of a fan base than they do.

But the fire sales and the stadium fiasco pretty much make everyone down here "once bitten."

(BTW, Miami/SoFL is a very viable market for baseball - the crowds at the WBC were larger than expected.  http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-03-16/sports/fl-wbc-0317-20130316_1_usa-dominican-marlins-park-dominican-republic )

I moved down here a year ago and have experienced the same thing. Any time I bring up baseball my coworkers will bitch about Loria a bit, and then move on to breathlessly discussing last night's Heat game.

If you are going to try to benefit from Red Sox fans through 'premium pricing' you also have to recognize the risk of pissing them off...

To be fair, just because they might be horrible players doesn't mean they don't have a shot at being starters for the Marlins.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
From what I've seen, the national shows seem to be squarely behind the Red Sox, due in no small part to it being the Marlins as the team doing the complaining.  (I'm in north NJ, and even the guy at the deli counter brought it up to me yesterday, and he was crapping on the Marlins for it).

I agree in general, but one of the filing clerks at the Miami courthouse (attorney line) is a Heat fan.  She's always in a great mood - all you have to do is point at one of the Heat banners or buttons and say is "So, how are they doing?" and you get grade A service.  You don't even have to be a fan.

So, as sad as it is, the Heat have contributed to my well being.  (Actually the clerks are not that bad down here, surprisingly, given the general state of customer service, which is awful.)

Also, you don't have to really follow the Heat here - Miami is so mixed, you don't really have to do the "fall back on sports" conversational thing.
