Over there last 14 games the Coyotes have averaged 4.21 goals per game. If they kept that up for a full season they would rank 75th all-time for G/GP. What has gotten into that team?

The first team on the list from this century is the 18/19 Lighting at 3.89 G/GP at 160th. Of course, there are also this year's Panthers on the list currently at 91st with a ridiculous 4.1 G/GP over 59 games.

So...Vegas. They got smoked by Winnipeg last night. They are the 2nd WC out west by points but the chasing pack all have at least 2 games in hand on them. Their playoff odds have dipped below 50% in some models. They have health and cap problems. It's pretty wild that there is a very real possibility that they miss the playoffs.

Run of the mill shooting heater. Helps that they haven't exactly faced a stringof Vezina winners.

PAIN. That's brutal news, though not unexpected at this point. The Sharks have almost no path to contention though with their cap situation. That leaves them with $13m with a 12 man roster. They are going to really suck for most of that contract. Bummer.

I really don’t understand why he wouldn’t want to test the market. San Jose literally has no path to being a legitimate contender anytime soon.

Greg Wyshynski says all the time "that's where their stuff is" and I think thats pretty clearly the case here.

So the equivalent for the Bruins would have been something like 1st, 4th, and Trevor Kuntar I guess?

woweeweewah - Zito just paid a 1st to make his team worse. Brutal trade for the cats. Annoyingly good trade for les habs.

He ended up signing for 8 years with $8.1375 million AAV!
He's 28 and has surpassed 50 points in a season once. This year will be the second time.
That's a huge cap hit for that level of production which I'm not sure many other teams would have committed to in free agency.

Brookline
Kuznetzov signed pretty much the same contract with the Caps two years ago after a 56-point season. Seems to be the going rate for top centers.

I bet he would've pushed $9 million on the open market. Good centers are hard to find and are rarely available.

For sure they are.
Part of me wants Patrice to come back next year on a team friendly contract (again), but part of me also wants him to come back for the $10+ million contract he deserves.

FLA is holding top prospect, Owen Tippett, out of their AHL game tonight. Lots of speculation that Giroux is headed to FLA after his 1000th game tonight.

I'm interested to see the rest of the package if this comes to fruition. Flyers fans on twitter are expecting a haul but Florida doesn't have their first round pick until 2024. Tippett has some pedigree being a former #10 pick, but he's 23 now and has been legitimately bad in the NHL. He's basically RW Studnicka with a higher draft pedigree. If its centered around Tippett, you have to expect Claude's choice of florida supressed the market quite a bit. I guess we will see.

I’m intrigued to see what kind of financial jujitsu they come up with to make this one work without giving up anyone off the roster. They work that cap like a slot machine down there.

There's no cap magic for this one. Hagel makes nothing. They have the LTIR room or could just waive/demote someone.

Deal is Hagel and two 4ths (22 and 23) to Tampa for two firsts (23 and 24), Boris Katchouk, Taylor Raddysh.

Basically cap neutral for Tampa since Katchouk and Raddysh were on their active roster at ~$760K each.

Seems good for both teams. Tampa is obviously still in win now mode. Trading all their picks and prospects will eventually catch up but they've already got 2 banners to show for it so might as well aim for the moon. Hawks need picks and prospects badly. Katchouk and Raddysh don't appear to be anything special but the added picks are nice. Shoving them out to future years may end up raising the value if Tampa runs into injury problems or just starts to fade.

I believe the 2023 and 2024 drafts are also better regarded than the 2022 draft, so the Hawks may also be banking on deeper pools of talent to pick from.

It doesn't matter - relative age is not a criteria for Calder. It shouldn't be part of the discussion on whether he deserves it or not.

Sure? You’re right it’s not part of the criteria but to say it’s not accounted for by voters would be looking past quiet a bit of evidence to the contrary.

Leafs outshoot the Habs 51-19. At one point, shot attempts were 73-38.

Habs win, 4-2. The Leafs host Florida tomorrow. The Bruins could start consolidating second in the division in a hurry.

Twitter thinks I am really interested in tweets from Leafs fans for some reason and while I am not it has been eye opening.

These fans are convinced that there team is amazing and not to worry about the goaltending. They are all bemoaning getting "goalied" last night, and not focusing on giving up 3 goals on 17 shots.

The way Tampa looked the other night doesn’t scare anyone but I think Toronto may be our best 1st round match up? They can’t stop a beachball
