The D-backs have 3 of their 8 series this season against the big boys (Dodgers for 8 out of 13, Padres for 2 out of 13) in the rear-view mirror and went 6-4. Really good start for them.

I feel like the Rays start isn’t getting the national publicity it deserves. It has to be one of the most amazing streaks ever. +52 through 9 games? All wins by 4+ runs? That’s probably never happened in baseball history.

Edit: I just learned the 1939 Yankees were the last team to win 9 straight by 4+. That was… a long time ago.
Tigers, Nats and A's...
Yes, they're taking care of business, which not every team does (ahem, Sox vs Pirates), but I'm waiting to see them against MLB competition before getting too excited.

Mets were batting. They got two infield hits on balls that the Padres waited to roll foul but stopped on the line before reaching the 3rd base bag in the same inning.

Kelenic's first home run of the season ties it in the 9th against the Cubs.

He has looked really good early on.
I saw his last couple of plate appearances in that extra inning game against the Guardians, he was doing a nice job working counts and he had a really impressive AB against Clase.

And they have some interesting young pitching, too - Pfaadt and Jameson and Kristian Robinson could be incredible if he gets his legal issues resolved.

Xander is up to 4 HR on the young season. *ducks*

The Mariners were up 7-0 after 1 1/2 innings and Flexen imploded, down 11-8 now and likely about to get worse. If they lose this one it's a dismal 4-8 start for them.

Jared Kelenic might have finally figured it out. Another absolute monster HR tonight along with a double that just missed getting out, and most importantly 2 walks with no strikeouts. Got down 0-2 in one of those at bats and worked his way back to a walk. Lots of great ABs from him in the past week.

Run differential by division:

AL East: +102
AL Central: -69
AL West: -14

NL East: -53 (surprising!)
NL Central: +28
NL West: +6

Oh man, that's awful looking.

Looks like his view of the 2B may have been blocked by the umpire and he never saw him. Is that where the umpire normally is on a play like that? I feel like he was way closer in than normal.

It's also one of the easiest opening schedules in MLB history. It's a yawn from me.

Still feel this way? Or because the Sox probably suck is it still not impressive?

If Byron Buxton showed up as my Uber driver, I'd probably say "No thanks, I'm good. It's a nice night for a walk."

The Twins have a 9-0 leade on the MFY in the second inning. How much will they end up losing by?

I had forgotten the '87 Brewers won their first 13 games and only remember they were a good team not quite good enough to be part of the heated race between the Tigers and Blue Jays. Turns out they were just as bad in May as they were good in April. After a 17-1 start they cooled off and then lost 12 in a row and 18 out of 20, finding themselves at 22-21. A win in April counts the same as a win in September, but you certainly can't win a division in April.

Figures the Rays would struggle going up against a higher level of competition than their first 13 games.

Maton with the baton. 7-5 Tigers walkoff in 11 after Gmen get the fifth in the top.

First home win for Detroit this year

Not sure where to put this and maybe already mentioned.

Cody Bellinger dinged on delay when given standing O on return to LA

Off the bat (heh), the pitch clock is amazing. But I feel maybe some discression allowed.

This will happen on rare instances - player return, player big game, player last ab before retirement… unique situation.

Keeping routine stuff on track seems great, but maybe an exception / discression for unique moves.

I agree. My experience with it in the minors last year was that the umpires had a lot of leeway for discretion. I feel like maybe MLB umps are just enormous assholes.
