Driving somewhere most likely
I think this is a recent development, but why is it that some teams don’t have Friday games?

I know early in the season they build in off days on Fridays due to weather. But for example tonight SF and SD both are off. Is it due to the more balanced schedule?

Traveling to Mexico City for a weekend series, so they both get the Friday off.

Zach Plesac needs to be gone. Even with 40% of the rotation on the IL, he's not currently one of Cleveland's best 6-7 starters. They should have just non-tendered him last fall if they couldn't trade him. I don't think I've despised a Cleveland player as much since the days of Casey Blake trying to use his "aww shucks" attitude to excuse all of his Manny-level absent-mindedness... except I don't think Cleveland can land the next Carlos Santana in return.

I wanted to look smart on the Rays coming back to earth, but it's not happening yet. They were no-hit for 6 innings tonight by Lynn but have scored 9(!) runs in the 7th.

The White Sox are bottoming out badly, they will be 7-21.

Eovaldi pitches a three-hitter to beat the Yankees 2-0. First career nine-inning shutout for Nasty Nate--he had a rain-shortened five-inning one in his final Sox start.

The whole notion that other teams are making bad trades with the Yankees (or any team) because their prospects are overhyped is pretty funny. Do people think that when Cashman calls another GM that guy immediately opens a tab on the laptop to Baseball America or Baseball Trade Values?
Doesn’t BA require a subscription? Highly doubt the A’s org ponies up for that.

The Pirates are so much fun. I expected them to get better soon, I did not expect them to be this good, this fast. 4th in MLB in run differential. Relentless offense, good defense, good pitching. The NL Central should be on notice.
This is so much fun to watch.

These Mexico City games are going to be a joke. Makes Coors Field look like the Astrodome.
They should have had the Rockies play there instead; it would have evened things out. The Rockies are on pace to hit less than 100 homers. In THAT park!

I just discovered that the Giants have identical twin pitchers, with the exception that one is a righty and the other a lefty. Tyler and Taylor Rogers.
Does everyone know this? They are not the first twins in mlb history, of course, but I believe they may be the only ones playing the same position on the same team.

Both Niekros pitched for the Braves in ‘73 & ‘74, and for the MFY in 1985.

Back in the 1950's, Johnny and Eddie O'Brien played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for a few seasons. Neither brother was a consistent starter, but they did play games together as the middle-infield duo. The Effectively Wild podcast spoke to 87 year-old Johnny a few years ago, in a very charming interview that's worth a listen https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1153-johnny-on-the-spot/.

The others besides the O'Briens were Jose & Ozzie Canseco. Both were corner outfielders with the A's for part of the 1990 season, but I checked the box scores and Ozzie never replaced or played in place of Jose in any game. Then there was one game for the 1915 Braves where Joe & Red Shannon appeared together. They were just 18-year-olds breaking in as utility guys, but the Braves brought them both in mid-game to be the double-play combo.

And thus ends the cream puff first month schedule for the Rays. Brutal stretch over the next 6 weeks—the worst team they play in that time is one game over .500.
I look forward to the Rays Pirates mid week. The 2 best teams in baseball!

I should take that statement to the pg thread about stuff Id never believe
