“What is the unwritten rule he seems to be referring to?” said vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson. “That if a team is winning by several runs they can continue to employ their shift taking certain hits away from the batter, but out of respect ‘for the game,’ the opponent must continue to hit the ball where they’ve positioned their defense until the score is a little closer? Is that how it works? Is he the arbiter of how the game should be played?

“Chance’s age is irrelevant and although we do have a veteran presence here, that type of advice was not needed because what he did was correct, which was to reach base any way possible.”

Edwin Encarnacion just hit an inside the park home run.

No. I’m not joking.

When it comes to sprint speed, Encarnacion ranks 420th out of 465 players, but this is the 2nd inside-the-park he's hit in his career… granted, the first came 11 years ago.

Kenley Jansen looking like he hasn't recovered from the postseason use/abuse yet, 4 ERs on 2 HRs in 2 games, both losses. He only allowed 5 HRs and 10 ERs all of 2017.

I personally have no problem bunting to break up a no hitter either if you're going to shift.
I don’t think a shift even matters whether it’s a no hitter or a one hitter. If a batter thinks a bunt gives him the best shot at getting on base, under any circumstances, then it’s entirely justified.

This is kind of where I am although I *sort* of understand if there's like a no-hitter in a 9-0 game or something, but it's not a big deal to me. The hitter's job is to get on base.

But when the defense is in a shift--SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF THE HITTER'S TENDENCIES (a.k.a. we are doing everything in our power to get you out)--and not playing straight up then by all means lay one down. You can't flood one side of the field and then also tell the hitter "Hey, you can't go the other way."

Last night the Dodgers blew leads of 3-0, 6-3 in the 9th, 7-6 in the 15th.
They lost 8-7 in 15 to the D-backs. Longest game in Chase Field history by time.

It would also let other teams know he will bunt when the shift is on. Especially if they bitch about it after.

I have never seen so few people in a ballpark as at Tiger Stadium right now. It's almost as cold there as at my house in W. MA, and it is raining on and off. Hats off to the few who are braving the elements to see these apparently mediocre teams play a game.

Inside the park HR for Carlos Correa, just over the LF in left center, off the wall and past the CF at a strange angle. Orioles still with ugly OF defense.

Yelich and Braun went back to back down to the last out to salvage a game from the Cardinals.
What is even cooler than back to back HRs to win game is that the Cardinals opened this game with back to back HRs as well.

Josh Reddick has 2 HRs and 6 RBis in the last two innings against Orioles relievers.

Heard this morning this is the first time in baseball history this has happened.

Scherzer is having a bad day, just gave up a 2-run double to the pitcher, Foltenewicz (sp?). Atlanta leading 5-1.
Earlier in the game, Adam Eaton made a web-gem of a catch for Scherzer or the score might be even more lopsided.

Facebook streamed the Mets v. Phils game yesterday. If you pay for MLB.tv you were redirected to Facebook to watch the game.

This was the UI:
