Yeah, I don't know that he's so much a jerk, it's just that unfortunately he's somewhat delusional as to what his best role is as a player. He found a team who agreed with that delusion though, so you can't really argue with his approach. Getting $57M guaranteed as a backup PG drafted #16 is a 99th percentile outcome, financially speaking.

He doesn't get paid that if he decides to be athletic Patrick Beverly, which is his best role in purely basketball terms.
I don't know what is delusional about Rozier feeling he is of starting PG quality which he's shown he'd been for 3 years running now whenever he had the opportunity. He had several teams looking to sign him last summer for that role which is what drove the price up for Charlotte. He just happened to be stuck in an awful role for him behind Kyrie and playing with other guys on the second unit also looking to put up numbers as they entered FA.

Teams'??? He's one of the worst starting PGs in the NBA and the 2nd best on his own crappy team.
Heck I could easily find 30 better PG's then Scary Terry

Terry's inflated price tag was driven up by S&T dynamics, certainly not by his play last season.

The price was driven up by the Knicks and Bulls negotiations to be their starting PG before settling on Payton and Satoransky due to the cost of Charlotte coming over the top.

If that's true, the Knicks/Bulls should send Mitch Kupcheck a fruit basket since any team that starts/pays Terry Rozier $19MM/yr is destined for the lottery for several years

You're probably right. If the Hornets knew Devonte Graham was going to be what he is now I'm sure they wouldn't have made that offer and Rozier would be at MSG like he thought he was going to be doing.

Nets go into Staples without the greatest coach in the world and knocks off the Lakers. When your players quit on you that takes you out of the running for greatest coach. Go ahead, argue this point.

Did anyone here or anywhere refer to Atkinson as "the greatest coach in the world"?

Also, impressive win for BKNY but I seem to recall a longtime poster here who has argued that this stretch between the Allstar game and the playoffs is just a grind. Hell, the Knicks/Zards game saw both teams blow double digit leads.

I'm only playing around but there has been plenty of love sent Atkinson's way after he lost his team and they agreed to part ways. The absurdity of throwing praise to a coach that lost his team wasn't lost on me watching this Nets game tonight. It was a great spot for them to catch the Lakers flat following their huge B2B wins over the Bucks and Clippers even though they did dodge a LeBron layup that somehow didn't go down and an open 3 by Davis off of the LeBron dribble penetratoin and kick out.

So we come all the way back to “Rozier isn’t that good as a lead PG but did a great job maximizing his FA (and got a bit lucky”.)

What about this guy, when he and his franchise parted ways 2004?
Jackson alternated between confronting Bryant over his behavior - like not playing in a game when he was physically capable of doing so - and trying to be lenient as Bryant went through his legal problems.
O'Neal refused to have his feet taped by a trainer who was allied with Bryant, while Bryant would not be taped by the trainer who wraps O'Neal's feet.

Jackson tried to understand why Bryant sometimes did not play within the triangle offense, tried to take over games and failed. He said that Bryant overreacted, as if his "manhood was on line," when tough defenders tried to shut him down.

At a team meeting early this year, to which Bryant was late, Jackson asked Bryant to stop yelling at his teammates on the court "because it creates insecurity." Bryant shot back, according to Jackson, that it was Jackson who created anxiety.

After believing in late January that Bryant had lied to him about his willingness to do some running at practice, then overhearing Bryant cursing to his teammates, Jackson sought out General Manager Mitch Kupchak to demand that Bryant be dealt before the trading deadline in February.
Or finally, Jackson said, maybe he was at fault, for not communicating team play adequately, or not being more effusive after the Lakers had beaten Minnesota in the playoffs. He felt that he had disappointed his owner, Jerry Buss, and the city.

They could but it doesn't change anything. The fact the Knicks and Bulls wanted to sign him in the first place is the reason they are perennial lottery teams alongside the Hornets.
Hornets have been in the lottery 8 times the last 10 seasons and the last 4 in a row. Headed on 5.
Bulls have been in the lottery 4 of the last 5 seasons, 3 times in a row. Headed on 4.
Knicks have been in the lottery 7 straight years.

I also don't necessarily agree with your assertion that the team that starts/pays Rozier is destined for the lottery, but the team who gave him that contact is. Proof: The Celtics made the playoffs paying Gordon Hayward max money the previous 2 seasons. A playoff team could easily absorb his contract and possibly improve their team doing so. I'm sure Philly would consider trading Al Horford for him. Denver would consider Gary Harris for Rozier trade too. Denver is another team that has made the playoffs and been successful despite giving mid money to guys like Gary Harris and Mason Plumlee.

My point is a team that pays Rozier $58MM for 3yrs probably makes it a habit of other bad decisions.

So while the Celtics/Gordon were unlucky with a freak injury, it wasn't a bad signing at the time. Ex-ante it doesn't feel great. BUT Danny has made numerous other smart trades, FA signings, draft picks, Coaching decisions etc... hence the Celtics are competitive

What's the last clever trade, draft pick, FA signing that Mitch Kupchak (without Jerry West) made since Pau Gasol deal?

Looking back at the Hornets roster and offense last summer without knowing Devonte Graham was going to be the player he has become they had the look of a team that could win 15 gmaes while struggling to get out of the 80's on a nightly basis. Rozier wasn't signed to make them a playoff team he was signed to provide offense to help prevent the Hornets from becoming the laughingstock of the league. I lived in Charlotte when they were awful and saw firsthand how nobody goes to see this team when they aren't competitive ......the owners still need to sell tickets and they needed someone to put points on the board after losing Kemba.

I think he'd be pretty easy to trade too. He has 2 more years after this season is over and is hitting over 40% of his 3s atm. $19 million really isn't all that much. And his contract actually gets lower each of the next 2 seasons.

Great, sign him for 1yr like the Knicks were rumored to have offered.

IMO it was a overpay at the time, and its a bad deal now regardless if Devonte Graham surprised them

Charlotte has always had to overpay to attract players. Why would Rozier accept the same offer to play in a place that isn't an NBA city over New York City? Rozier's contract doesn't hurt Charlotte moving forward at all while creating a tradeable salary slot with only two years remaining.

Charlotte must be bad when you have to overpay to keep a player away from Dolan and the Knicks

Agreed. Terry was overpaid to keep a salary slot.

He's barely a tradeable asset (filler at this point). Especially when your trade options are Al Horford and that contract. Maybe they can package Terry for Kevin Love or Drummond?

To Orlando for Ross, Augustin and a protected 1st.

edit: DJ's a FA after this year, so Aminu works.

Some have floated the idea of shifting the NBA to a ~December to ~August schedule to avoid the NFL since nobody really cares about the product until Christmas at the moment. I think this is the perfect opportunity to make that move. Instead of playing without fans, put a hiatus on the season and pick-up this summer. Playing these games without fans is going to be really weird.

76ers score 70 in first half with their latest starting lineup. Horford very comfortable with 10 points, 8 rebounds in first half. Maybe he’s better with Shake Milton running things.

Horford with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists with 7 minutes left in third quarter. Not dead yet. Although it is the Pistons they are playing.

Someone in another forum just reminded me that the Jazz played the Celtics in Boston 5 days ago, and the average time from infection to symptoms is 5 days according to reports from China and Italy. (Although it can vary widely.)

My wife works at Emerson College. Celtics opponents practice and have shootarounds at Emerson when they are in town. Gobert was at Emerson and in contact with school personnel. Emerson also returned 30 students back home studying abroad in The Netherlands last week, didn't quarantine, and immediately released them into the student community......but that's for another thread.
