Well they solved their Luongo - Schneider problem by trading away both of them.  Makes sense.

Well, that puts them at a...
Lack between the pipes.

Duthie says the other player coming back could be Matthias-and this was RT'd by McKenzie, so I'd think it has some legs. Chris Johnston has also reported this, and Lavoie has RT'd this.

IIRC Markstrom was considered the top goalie prospect for a couple years. Still just 24 but he hasn't made the leap yet.

If the Canucks continue to blow it up and move Edler and Kesler next, wtf do they do with the Sedin's? They'll be 34 at the start of next year and just signed extensions. Do they stick around for a rebuild?

I can't see any way that this season ends with Mike Gillis having a job.

That's where I'm at. We just got this from Bobo...

Quite a day with Luongo on move to FLA. Convinced this more related to fallout from non-start in Heritage than reason for the non-start.

...which makes me suspect things are getting toxic there fast. If Aquilini's reading this today, he has to be wondering just what's going on.

Yup. Doubt he cracks Florida's lineup.

Meantime, if you're Mike Gillis, you've turned a pair of top-flight goalies into Bo Horvat, Jakob Markstrom, and Shawn Matthias. Think about that.

I bet Dreger isn't juggling a newborn while making it. Pussy.

Also, Dreger got the whole trade wrong:

Mirtle's work - but a great look at how recapture will affect both FLA/VAN depending on the year Luongo retires:

Thomas going to Pittsburgh makes zero sense given they gave Zatkoff a contract extension and Vokoun has been cleared to resume activity.  They don't need four goalies.

Today's cherry on top is that Murphy managed to be wrong yet again

He has an accuracy rate somewhere near Eklund.

How is he still employed?

Can someone get him on the Concord to Boston? I just want to see the two of them next to each other tonight.

Seen in isolation this is a pretty good deal for both clubs. Florida gets A Proven Veteran Goalie who's salary will actually help them get to the Salary Floor - which has been an issue with the panthers in the past. And Luongo's still a good , if not great, goalie.

Vancouver fans should be doing cartwheels after getting out from under that Puhols like albatross of a contract. I would have given him away for free.

The bizarre part is that they previously traded Scheider .. And then dumped Luongo. I'm guessing they thought they'd never be able to get rid of Luongo. And then, lo and behold, this possibility occurred. This is a Puntoesque deal for the Canucks.

Does a cap recapture penalty really matter to a team that doesnt spend money?
