Fantastic to hear. I hope we are seeing the bursting of the dam and within a few years, no one has to hide who they are in the professional athletics world.

Cool. Athletics seems like it could be the final frontier in terms of normalizing.

Just curious, is he a legit NHL prospect? Can anyone make a rough analogy to someone in the Sox' system?

Prokop was a 3rd round pick last year. Too early to really say if he's legit or not. The Bruins took Trevor Kuntar 16 picks after Prokop was selected by Nashville. Quickly eye-balling his hockeydb page, he looks Carlo-sih. 6 foot 5, 221 pound defenseman. Played in the WHL, same as Carlo in juniors, not a ton of offense.

Any how, good for him. Hopefully moving towards the day this type of thing isn't news worthy.

Per Google, looks like his potential is as a fringe NHLer. So like a AAAA guy.
Yes, maybe his ceiling is playing a healthy amount as a team's 5th or 6th defenseman (they skate 6 defenseman a game, moondog). Unlikely to be a star, but has a chance of having a decent NHL career.

I always think heteronormative institutions making statements like that is a little... I dunno, performative and often lacking substance? But that's as good a statement as you can make. Good on the NHL.

Performative in what sense?

Would it be better if Bettman disavowed it and said no gay people are allowed to play in the NFL because God said so? If this is performative and lacking substance, nothing anyone can do would be of substance.

No, I said this one was fine. Just that in general I'm usually wary of this kind of thing because it's like "Well, what kind of culture did you allow where your organization is lagging a decade behind all other industries in the country in people feeling safe to come out?" despite them saying how supportive they are.

But, it doesn't matter, if the support is genuine after the fact then moving forward is all that I care about. I'm praising the NHL here.

Edit: Just continuing my thought process here, as an LGBTQ+ person, when the Red Sox did that "it gets better" push it honestly meant a lot to me. So I appreciate that kind of thing. But on the same token, tomorrow will mark 10 years since that event and there's still no out MLB player? Words can mean a lot, but they only go so far by themselves.

But, this is a good thing, I don't mean to be a downer. Just trying to add some perspective.
